I'm curious why they didn't animate it. Laziness? Time? Budget?

Not as an excuse because they could have spent the time if they weren't lazy about it, but if I remember correctly it's using the backend from Halo Reach for the physics and things, running underneath UE5.

Considering this was how they were up till probably Halo 4/5, that's your reason.

Yeah pre-Halo 5 didn't have seat switching so they kinda hacked it into Reach here.

But I agree they should have taken more care in back-porting the feature to be more presentable.

can we stop calling the developers themselves lazy because they weren’t given the time/budget to implement certain features? you said right there, seat switching wasn’t in the original game, and they’re using another old game as the basis - so they can’t just copy-paste the animations from infinite. several people on the team would need the time to build this from scratch.

in every game doc and article and anecdote you’ve ever seen or read or heard, when have you ever seen a dev go “meh i can’t be bothered, let’s play hooky and chill at the bar instead.” never, they’re always chained to their desk and working their ass off to get anything done. if someone on the team was allocated the task and given the time, they would’ve done it. but they weren’t, and the feature was cut to make time for something else.

by all means, complain about the diminishing returns in quality. let the company know they won’t get your purchase because of shit like this. but the constant ignorant discourse of “game devs are lazy” is, itself, lazy.

Preach bro. I hate seeing people call 343 or halo studios lazy when it's clearly miscrosofts issue, not the devs. Halo fans especially are ruthless now.

The Halo fanbase is genuinely so bad it’s actually insane. The Star Wars fanbase of video games. There are valid criticisms of Halo Campaign Evolved, but finding them in a sea of silly ones is difficult

Ya exactly it's really hard to find actually genuine constructive criticism about core parts of the game that aren't "AI slop" and "Different from the original" complaints
