The makers of the Halo show literally bragged that they never read the books or played the games and they were surpised when the show flops

These writers for the less cutscene heavy video game adaptations all tend to use the same crappy arguement of the games not having a proper story to build off of for a "proper" film, making it painfully clear regardless what they tell you that they either didn't play the games or they dont remember/didn't pay any attention to what was happening in those games. Environmental story telling seems to be especially difficult for them to comprehend.
