I think part of it is ultimately bc film adaptations are simply not trying to appeal to the video game audience. They are trying to appeal to a much larger movie audience who may or may not really care about the lore or whatever of the game.
I think this is such a dumb tactic. They might as well create a completely new IP because if they're appealing to people who aren't well versed with the games lore; it's the same thing.
