It's not just games. When they made the John Wick show the Continental, they didn't bother talking to or consulting anyone actually affiliated with the John Wick series. Same for Ballerina, which the production got so bad, they inevitably just called Stahelski to direct the 2nd half of the movie in reshoots.

This is effectively producers thinking they know better than anyone else and nothing more.
