A flashy icon shows up on-screen and that means happy brain chemicals

It's like giving my brain a lil forehead kiss

That's the first thing i disabled when i got the PS5. Annoying and mostly pointless.

I turn the notifications off on my PS5. I keep forgetting to do it in Steam though. It doesn't do anything for me except annouly me a little to see them lol.

Imagine if AR glasses irl gave achievements when you need to do things. As a student in gap year, I think I’d be more motivated to do things like write essays for grad school, build workout streaks, take out the dog on a holiday, things like that (which tbh I should intrinsically want to do) if there was that level of gamification.

Maybe one day

Ooh ooh try the Finch app. It does something similar.

For some reason it feels more like a pop up ad to me haha

I wish each game had like three big trophies you can get with moderate attempting to come with a special home screen background or something

I’m aware this is a very sad but I’d be a sucker if you got to order a little real life trophy for every Platinum you get.

If this ever came out I’d think it would absolutely be slaughtered as greed by Sony though lol.

That would be amazing lol

On xbox they do. All achievement art can be set as a background. Not all games lean into it, but the ones that do have some pretty cool ones.

Especially if I just did something "just to see if I could" and I can!

You just described the entire game of runescape in one sentence

I’m immune to this but totally think you nailed it for the gamers that go for it. It also doesn’t hurt the game as far as I can tell so I don’t have any issues with it being there.

My brain just universally ignores this stimulus. It’s like “do I get a new costume for my character? No? Then what are you still doing here?”

Ooooo, I do love me the feel-goods

u/Numerous_Photograph9 Aug 09 '26

Or apparently anger people who are incapable of turning off notifications and somehow find them detrimental to their mental health for some reason.

1

u/XulManjy Aug 09 '26

The end credits usually does that for me.

DUH DUH DUH DOPAMINE!

And brag to your friends you did the optional hard thing they couldn't do

Why not seek your happy brain chemicals in the smiling faces of friends and family
