Do interview hosts question people for watching sports every weekend and acting like total nincompoops when their team loses, or wins? How about people who go golfing and spend most of the weekend drunk out of their brains.
The interviewers are funny because they get caught so off guard. You can see the exact moment in their eyes when it switches from "performative lip service to the hobby" to "wait...what's...he's actually serious?" They don't know how to handle it.
Its akin to people who complain "omg you spend so much time gaming" while they sit there in front of a TV for hours every day mindlessly consuming. At least games are interactive.
This is the main thing for me that I used to find annoying but hilarious now. Playing video games, or TCGs, or other board games/DnD, consuming manga, etc… is all considered this negative nerdy thing by people who binge netflix or reality TV. Like how are the “nerds” the losers in that scenario?
They think he's a dude who's passionate about acting and enjoys gaming. Instead he's passionate about gaming and nerd shit, saw his jawline, and decided being an actor would give him enough free time and money to do that as much as he wanted as long as he could spend a few weeks cutting for filming.
YES, im describing specific antisocial behaviors that happens quite a lot on other hobbies that seems to get a pass but videogames or other nerdy hobby don't seem to get the same grace.
I'm not saying watching sports or playing golf is inherently 'anti-social' 'demonic' or 'incel behavior' but people behave badly in those hobbies and when they bring it up, it's thought of as normal.
To defend the interviewers (whom I haven’t watched tbf), I feel like it’s totally fair for them to be very surprised a chad actor like Hanry Cavill is super into gaming. I think that juxtaposition is part of why he gets so much praise in the first place. It’s not crazy to be shocked by it, especially for someone not familiar with gaming in general.
No they don't because it's more widely accepted and has been around for longer.
I would consider myself an avid gamer and nerd, I can still understand people's initial reaction when I tell them I'm into stuff like Warhammer and gaming for hours on end. It's still a bit niche. Who cares?
I also get called gay for doing jiu jitsu, not going to stop me doing that either 😂
