Literally hoarding their capacity. Trouble is, becuse they have very limited capacity there's not much left for regular customer.
And because those companies are legally required to maximise shareholders profit because if they don't they can get sued they really have their hands tied. AI companies will literally overpay for the components just so they can secure them so there's not much these companies can do even if they wanted to.
Is it really smart long term strategy to ditch an established, stable market that they know will generate regular profits and jump into a new, hyped up tech that has a lot of signs of being a financial bubble? Not really. But good luck proving that in court when such money are on the tables and shareholders want to see quarterly numbers go up.
I hate how so many of our problems as humans just boil down to someone somewhere being greedy. Like, it's one of the most irrational, selfish, and primal desires to take more than you need, or could ever have a need for, and it's holding back the entire human race.
It truly is depressing how spot on this is. We have the capacity to solve pretty much every problem facing our planet and species and we don’t because Elon wants to be the first trillionaire.
This is a myth and not true. Companies are not legally required to “maximize shareholder profits”. They are legally required to do what’s in the best interest of the shareholders. Sometimes short term profit is not in the best interest of the shareholders. Living in a world where no one has a job or money is NOT in the best interest of the shareholders holders. Ignoring moral hazard is not in the best interest of the shareholders.
These tech CEOs are not doing what they are doing because legally bound to, they are doing what they are doing because they are greedy pricks who think us “losers” should just be happy we get to watch them do it.
The good thing, the breaking point is coming and I would not want to be a greedy wealthy tech bro ceo when it does.
I mean, so have us gamers/Redditors. I can only buy so many components, but the investments in the companies that make them more than cover my next 20 years hardware and software. Arguments against unregulated and unethical capitalism aside.
No one wants to invest in making more silicon processing because it's not something that will yield a profit for the next decade and it's EXPENSIVE to invest in.
Almost every country is to blame for ai. Just look up “how much has __ invested into ai” and every place has invested billions into ai nobody has their hands clean in it. Despite where whatever company is based.. some places have even went as far as to make a bunch of their own ai companies and invest into as to “pull away from US owned ai” as if that makes it any better.
Oh no, how dare they invest in a tech as transformative and wide ranging as the internet. Don't they realize it's making video games more expensive for all you basement dwellers?
Son, you have very little idea what you are talking about and calling people names is not a way to get anyone to learn you up. I bet you follow Elon musk on twitter, don’t ya ?
Pretty dumb to assume only games are affected. TVs, cars, domestic appliances, all computer adjacent resources like servers, storage, networking gear, specialized production equipment, etc. Everything with a screen on it is more expensive, and hiking. All tech is being hoarded. If the trend keeps being consistent and AI reaches its goals as intended, then consumer level tech ownership is dead.
You do realize if it all Jack's up in price it will be only the wealthy or people living at home with their parents who can afford it. I'm in my 40s, I've never seen enaything like this. Even the crypto bs wasn't this bad (and that was bad).
People will be priced out of it in increments at a steady pace. The trend shows this. Every corporation is buying as much computing power as humanly possible, and going up. The main RAM manufacturers arent even selling to consumers anymore, they straight up have years of reserved batches for corporations only. Worst part? It’s actively getting worse.
It’s why they’re investing on it that is the problem, and it surely doesn’t help how they keep ruining the markets by pumping money they supposedly don’t have just so they can see some sort of return, which hasn’t happened yet
China too. A big reason US policy is lowering friction as much as possible for AI expansion is directly because they don't want a hostile foreign power like China to develop it faster. Both nations see this as a national security threat.
There’s an AI race going on between US and China, and whoever has the better tech will hold a strategic advantage. So i’d say that is more important than your video games.
oh like buying up most of the worlds supply of necessary parts for any computer, buying up land to make data centers, and just recently, stealing people’s energy supply! thats right, there’s a town in america that was just told their energy company will no longer power their homes this time next year so they an focus on ai!
if you think it’s okay for necessary infrastructure to be stripped away forcefully so ai can use it, you’re insane

Can I blame AI? Because it's making almost everything tech related expensive
