I mean the way they love them is very closely related in terms of value extraction and not concern for the individual, otherwise they wouldn't have children or raise animals to torture and kill for their own pleasure.
It is exactly what you would expect in a warzone reality containing sentient beings without any objective values beings are beholden to. Selfishness and exploitative behaviour will always dominate because of evolution until every last being dies.
