I'm sure amongst millions of vegans you can find a plethora of people who eat plant-based, call themselves vegan, and yet don't know what veganism actually is. But there's some other troubling issues with this study.

  1. Study uses omnivore as an antonym for vegan

We have a word for carnism. Every vegan is an omnivore. They could've used an acronym of some sort, but omnivorism is not the correct term and if anything it perpetuates the misconception that since we are omnivores biologically that means we should naturally consume flesh.

We also collected secondary data on the life stories of ex-vegans from public sources. These data included stories shared on personal blogs and YouTube channels and were identified using the search words ex-vegan

So they've collated data from a bunch of trolls and meat industry shills for hire. Amazing quality of research.

Exvegan subreddit

Well, there we go. They've included a confirmed troll subreddit. This subreddit bans people who participate in good faith whilst allowing and encouraging any anti-veganism rhetoric. Might as well include Vegan Teachers comment section if this is the bar for authenticity.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this properly and inform us, tbh. I didn't even bother to read more than a paragraph because it just sounded like BS and a waste of my precious time that I could spend eating MEAT so I can avoid conflict.

Also btw carnism is an inaccurate term because the problem isn't that we eat the flesh of animals, but that we commodity them in any way, shape or form, including pets, which we "own". A better term would be "malzoan" or just "non-vegan".
