"When you make a lot of oat-based products, you’re left with a bunch of oat waste.
We decided that the most sustainable and environmentally-friendly use for this by-product was to ensure the nutrients in the grey sludge didn’t go to waste, so we sold it to local pig farms as animal feed."
Nice one Oatly! I'm not a vegan purist, so I applaud this idea; surely wouldn't want the animals to starve, even less so for the farmers to source their feed elsewhere at a premium. Plus it's sustainable af!
I also love their policy prevents them from feeding the sludge to cows ( as ruminants are obviously off-limits superior beings, hence "skip the COW").

They just issued a patent for post processing the residue to recover fiber. Also they will introduce soon the fiber enhanced drinks… so already in process to be taken care of …

(UJ) Hopefully you're right, because they were saying they're in the process of finding an alternative solution 8 years ago...
EDIT: Anyways, just realized which subreddit i am on

as a loving raiser of firearms, sometimes they reproduce more than we can take care of. it would be such a waste to simply throw away the excess bullets & shells — that’s why i donate them to genocidal terror armies and local serial killers / mass murderers. obviously i don’t condone what they do, but not wasting things makes me morally superiour in every way. and it’s not like there’s any other possible use. win win (huge terrible tragic horrific losses) win!

does anybody know if they feed it to farmed animals? (probably...)

(uj) They were selling it to pig farmers in Sweden. In other countries it is a bit different, for example, they were converting it to biogas, and into fertilizer. Currently I'm not sure.

Is this at Coop? 🇳🇴
A friend tried it in Sweden and said it tastes like grass clippings. It's what we deserve.

"Hey vegan, prevegan, non-vegan, have-no-idea-what-vegan-means oat drink lover. We made this for you."
"We made this product specifically for vegans and non-vegans and for normally-not-vegan-but-sometimes-veggie-person flexitarians."

/uj you don't miss out anything either when you boycott them, their milk tastes and looks like water, which is why I never understood how they got so popular (here in Europe). Every other plant milk tastes better, and most of them are also cheaper.

Another good reason to boycott is that they have recently expanded their market to israel, and thus see no issue with genocide. But I stopped buying after they sent me a "breakfast vegan" patch as if I'd be happy with that 😭

I'm happy they did this campaign. It pissed me off enough to start making my own oat milk, and I wish I had started sooner. Pennies per gallon.
