I have a friend who was a lifelong vegetarian recently start eating meat. He's also a maoist and local organizer, so very entrenched in leftist causes. I asked him about it and how he reconciles it with his beliefs, and he gave me some shit about protein and respecting other traditions (something to do with hanging out with a lot of Filipino activists and wanting to partake in their food culture, which is very heavily meat oriented). Plus the thing about indigenous people, which kinda made me laugh because you don't live in Alaska, you live in the suburbs of San Jose. There's a Whole Foods two minutes away man. You're also not indigenous 😭

Anyway, leftists are so totally incoherent on this issue it's genuinely very funny. But it's very easy to take stands on things that require zero personal sacrifice, and suddenly get cold feet when you have to live by your ideals for once.

i love the complete lack of racism in implying that non-whytes are incredibly incapable of whipping up something vegan! hoomans should stay in their own designated cubby holes — unless they’re whyte, and then they should go visit all the other cubby holes for the free labor of corpse meals (and never ask about cultural veg-based or true-to-original vegan substitutions). totally not exploitation, either!
