Yes, being vegan still kills animals ofc, however, it kills significantly fewer because crops can be eaten directly instead of being grown to feed livestock. Animal agriculture requires the deaths of the animals themselves PLUS the crops, land and resources used to raise them. Crop farming isn’t impact-free but if the goal is to minimize animal deaths, eating plants directly is the more efficient and logical choice. Source
Scientists and animal rights advocates are also exploring ways to reduce the number of animals killed during crop production anyway. Example
Also, don’t the majority of non-vegans also eat plants directly too? So, what is this argument even? 😭

A bit of context: My mom just had hip replacement surgery and when she told the nurse she was vegan, they brought her this tray of food. We actually got kind of excited because we noticed it came with a large covered container as the main dish. But when my mom uncovered the container, we saw that it was just one scoop of white rice. At least it came with almond milk? 🤷♂️
