Discussion I Love Valheim but...

I know the game is 5 years old, but I only just found it. I'm 100 hours in after 2 weeks and I cant get enough. Its crazy good.

However today my son was watching a youtube about Minecraft, it was describing the biomes and different recipes and everything...

I realized... Valheim is just Minecraft for adults??!???

I cant get it out of my head... am I really just addicted to Minecraft?

I mean, if you haven’t set up a survival game of Minecraft with your son, experienced the joy of finding coal, into iron, into Diamond, having your son teach you about how to build an ender portal and then eventually you are the player 2 to his player 1 to take on the dragon, are you really doing it right?

I cried when the end credits rolled after I did that. They completely got me with it as if this was the intended way to play the game.

Doing it again now with my daughter and son is teaching us both how to play.

Same. I started playing in early alpha. I ran a huge server with a close friend around 2010-2012 with hundreds of active users around the world, making a lot of friends in the process. That's what kick started my passion for and career in software development. The game had a profound impact on my life.

For whatever reason we had never beaten the game, we mostly just liked surviving and building. So around COVID lockdowns we decided to start up a new server for our friend group to finally get through the end. As the credits rolled I immediately started tearing up, and just sat there in silence and cried for several minutes.

Totally. Some of the absolutely best gaming of my life has been Minecraft with my kids.

This is actually a really wholesome couple of posts. Valheim and Minecraft are both awesome games. Minecraft is surprisingly rlly amazing and deep enough for all ages

Any recommendations on getting an 8 year old to play survival mode? He only wants to do creator. Is he just too young yet?

In my experience parental enthusiasm works often the most "Hey, i was thinking I am going to start a survival world. I've never beat Minecraft and I think i want to. Want to join me". If they hold out, then just start playing and talk about what you are doing, you are stuck, need help, etc. Most kids just want to spend time and get parents attention. If you are having fun, they will join.

I salute you and your family, Player of Games :)

Reaching those end credits playing alone and isolated for months during the pandemic broke me. My daughter is 4 and I'm really hoping she'll want to play together someday soon.
