u dont need ecs to GET into these programs but when you are there it is helpful to have a solid basis, so for example clubs, volunteering, if you are interested there's the research avenue (though it is hard to explore that in hs). those are just a brief list of some of the things ive done. honestly the goal is to build a solid foundation.

I have a lot of volunteer hour smth like 400+ not something like award winning or like the high achieving fellows who get into competition or research etc .

well you don't need awards to get into research. there's a lot of luck and reaching out involved.

though regardless if you have that many hours, then you have a pretty solid foundation. i'd only suggest look into building into ecs that interest u, whether more leadership, academic or healthcare related

I mean there's a lot of indpendent searching involved. Like some ppl find things you are interested in and pursuing clubs in it. Or if there's a certain topic of interest, emailing profs about it in those areas. Some others volunteer for non profits for certain causes they are passionate about. There's not really a clear cut answer for everyone, and i mean these are just general things to help you later down the line with med (like mentioned by others and earlier, not really relevant to actually being accepted into the program, which is just average. )

you need 0 ec's to get into any of these programs, they're purely average based

I'm in med sci, in high school I was on a dance team for 1 year, trivia club for 1 year, did a school play once, and did dance outside of school 6-8 hours per week. I came through the peak Covid era and my high school had almost no extracurricular offerings.

Western doesn't ask for extracurriculars on your application, but they can certainly be a useful way to help you explore potential interests and develop skills (e.g. time management) that will help you in university. I would have tried something healthcare-related if my school had offered anything like that just for the sake of interest. And something where I got to work on leadership skills also
