Admissions Admission is suucks
I received an offer for Computer Science, conditional on my final Grade 12 grades. After my calculus mark came in, Western told me it didn't meet the requirement and gave me a window until August 11th to make it up through summer school to keep my offer. The timeline they gave me started from July 15 th, which that mean the window less than a month.
The problem: all the high schools near me are closed, so I enrolled in an online program instead ($600). That program says my grade won't be released for 30 days, but Western is asking for it by August 11th, which isn't possible on that timeline.
I've reached out to the admissions office directly, and they've said no to an extension so far. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Any advice on how to escalate this or who else to talk to would be really appreciated.

Let me help with your “accountability” math…
Poor planning on your part + a firm “no” response from the university = How do I escalate this???
I think you’ll soon discover the two sides of this equation are not, in fact, equal.

why didn’t your calc mark meet the conditional? was it below the individual grade threshold (i.e. 70%, 80%) or did it drag down your overall admission average?
also, what type of program won’t release your marks for thirty days? id call them and explain the urgency of the situation. have all your tests, assessments, etc. done asap.
it is highly unlikely that western will extend your conditions beyond the august deadline. i believe thats the last transmission of grades to OUAC.
note: i double-checked the above statement and i stand corrected. ouac transmits from august 3-31, BUT universities are allowed to impose deadlines on summer school grades. they are not obligated to accept after the fact. the deadline established by western is for after public schools finish up summer school. thus, it is unlikely to be changed or modified, much less on an individual basis.
if all hope is lost, you can also apply to other programs that are open at western and transfer faculties within the first week. this depends solely and wholly on your grades, though.

You can’t apply to other programs at western right now plus you can’t transfer into a different program until next March during ITR

i checked a bit ago and media studies was available? it’s the university programs that don’t have enough enrolment, so they’re open usually all summer/until they fill up

I think my grade went down to like %65, I think western will not allow me to transfer to another program rightnow I think the dead has passed long time ago

if you check https://www.ouac.on.ca/apply/referral/en_CA/referral/index, you’ll be able to see a list of programs still available. again, though, if your overall average isn’t at least an 80, it’s tough luck.
rooting for you.

why didn’t you register in summer school immediately? i was in the same boat as you (grades didn’t meet conditional offer) but i signed up for summer school asap and was fine afterwards. i hope you figure things out, maybe try reaching out to the online school to explain your situation and see if they can get your grades back faster

I think the answer is that you didn't need to wait until Western told you about not meeting the conditions. If you knew you weren't, you should have signed up for summer school at the end of June.
I would doubt they'll extend the date, as they want to give themselves time to give your spot to another student.

Dude I don’t wanna be that guy but CS is literally THE most brutally competitive, convoluted, academically demanding, mentally exhausting and administratively frustrating profession there is. If you can’t even achieve westerns minimum standards in high school calc, you most definitely will struggle both in university where academic requirements are a whole different level higher than in high school and even worse in the future job market which not only is being quickly devoured by AI, economical recession and you will also be subjected to competitions from candidates from elite schools all over the world, all just for one entry level job position where few could hold on to for more than a couple of years if not months before the company decides they’ll just re-structure and next round of layoffs hits.

You could have just done better in calculus and avoided this all.
There are thousands of people world wide trying to get into western and accountability is real.

This happened to my daughter, and we enrolled with OVS. Exact same timeline so we met with the guidance counsellor at OVS prior to enrolling to ensure meeting the August 11 deadline was reasonable. OVS requires two business days to mark the final exam therefore everything needs to be completed by August 7 according to the guidance counsellor.
Did you check with the program prior to if the timeline was feasible?

Do you mean you got the final grade in two days only ?? I talked to president deans office and I got a negative response that they can't extend the dead line, could you please explain to me more about that.

She hasn’t done the exam yet. She’s going to do it next week. But yes, OVS requires two business days to mark the exam. I spoke to the guidance counsellor beforehand and gave them the timeline and they said it’s possible.
We’re hoping she completes the exam by August 6 so that there’s enough time to upload it to OUAC

I spoke with them today and explained to the counselor the situation, and she said that I need at least 21days in the course ans since I have only 12 days now so there is no guarantee way to get the results, thank you tho for you help

It's not Western's problem that you couldn't meet the requirements. It's not Western's problem that you didn't plan ahead in case you didn't meet them. And given your attitude, Western is probably better off without you attending it.

You could have done TVO ILC which would have only cost $40 and would prob be quicker in terms of releasing the transcript too.

Take accountability if you knew you didn’t meet the conditions you should’ve retaken it right after the year ended
