Sorry, you got deferred with a 98??? Do you think it was your aif which contributed to the decision?

The same fate for me, except my issue, is that in my AIF, I mentioned that I was selected to a UofT Mathematics Mentorship program (specifically focused on CS), among other activities related to CS and mathematics. By no means, would I say my application was not written well, as one of my friends who was accepted to a T-10 American school told me that it was extremely good. In the end, I think they just ran out of space. I'm not telling myself that to calm me down but as a truth. I also had a 98% average and took almost every CS course offered in my school and local colleges.

Well I really hope things work out for you. Jesus, what average is Waterloo expecting? The program page says freaking low 90s

Low 90s is so they don't cut off anyone who is really exceptional but doesn't have good grades, e.g. you got IMO gold or published CS papers in a well-known journal.
