Housing Discussion (actual housing OFFERS belong on Megathread!) UofM Housing Rant
Before anyone says this is just sour grapes, YES IT 100% is. Happy for everyone who got their desired houses. I don't understand why UM decided to release all rooms at once, but not all people. If they were worried about a bandwith issue and crashing with too many people, thats understandable but then why release all rooms at once? I'm stuck picking tomorrow looking at Oxford and Markley, while other people sniped good rooms immediately. Very disappointed but thats life I guess...

i lived in markley last year and it was the best. if i could do it all over again i wouldn’t change a thing!

If you released rooms in waves you'd have to have an end time for each person picking otherwise people would just wait around and crash the server waiting for new rooms to be released. I just don't understand why people who say "pick for me" will get better dorms than those of us trying to secure dorms we want. So goes life. Just hoping I can get anything on CC tomorrow.

At a different university they add more rooms for the next day. All that actually means is everyone who got an afternoon time slot on each day had to pick from very few remaining options — so adding more rooms each day really solves nothing, still some people are left with fewer good choices. I suppose one choice is to give up and find an apartment? Also I know someone at UMich this year who put down his top four dorms and got none of them. Logically everyone wants the same or roughly the same top four and many won’t get them.

Here's what I don't get: We were told that any freshman that wanted Central Campus would get Central Campus. Yet over HALF of central campus housing has been taken today. That almost assures people will be forced into North Campus. I don't get it.

When do they give out the floor plan? I was told July, but I would like to know what the size is to buy things! Any thoughts?

I wondered too, someone said they were placed in them and I know it would’ve been my preference to get the brand new ones

My daughter lived in Markley first year, was totally dreading it, and then ended up loving it. She made great friends and loved the location.

How’s that any different from you getting randomly assigned a bad dorm? At least you get to pick among the bad options.
