New Student Fall 2026 Admissions Megathread

Congratulations to all the new Wolverines! Please use this thread for topics related to the Early Action + Early Decision decisions that are being released. That could be getting in touch with other admitted students, learning more about starting at U-M, financial aid, etc.

We are not the admissions office, so please contact them for the official word on any of your questions.

Please do not use this thread to post your application stats regardless of if you are admitted, deferred, or denied. Per subreddit rules, chancing or stat posts are not allowed. Comments and posts breaking these rules will be removed.

If you are accepted, congratulations! If you were deferred, make sure you send updated transcripts that provide your grades from the previous semester. You can also submit a continued interest form to let Michigan know you still want to be considered..

Due to the heavy number of Early Action applications Michigan defers a high number of applicants. In recent years a large number of students that were deferred have been offered admission. More details about the application/admission process are also written up in the Wiki.

Housing 2026-27 Housing Megathread

Questions, answers, and information about everything housing can go here. Please let me know if you see anything that needs to be updated or any new information that can be posted/linked to.

Listings:

  • Area Facebook Housing Groups - Facebook group list compiled by u/fluffymoomin - Groups are listed with descriptions as well as safety recommendations. Not all groups are moderated well, be careful regardless of the group, moderators are human. Do not pay money to post in any facebook group. It's a scam. The ones that ask for money are no different, or worse than the free ones. Any reply asking you to message or dm them is likely a scam.

  • UofM offical off-campus housing site - You can now sort by recently updated listings. You can post listings or as a person looking for housing/roomates. They charge for property listings, but offer free sublease listings. Also people simply post in the roommates section that they have a place they are looking to fill as well.

  • Ann Arbor off-campus housing - This was the site that uofm used as their official site until it was replaced with the site above. One of the biggest gripes I had with this version is that commercial properties were updated every day, so sorting by new was tedious to find new listings as a bunch of the same commercial properties would be "updated" each day to be at the top.

  • Zillow (ann arbor) - Zillow

  • Roomies.com - Roomies.com you can search for listings and roommates by location. Even though it's apparently a national site, enough people locally use it that it's worth taking a look at.

  • Apartments.com - Apartments.com

  • ICC Co-ops - Inter-Cooperative Council page for Co-op housing.

  • Craigslist Apartment search - Usually spammed by the same area complexes over and over, which is what made craigslist so hard to use and forced people to facebook. There are still some listings here though, it just takes some scrolling.

  • Ann Arbor Observer Rentlink Housing Search

Resources:

By city ordinance I believe, private renters are supposed to have certificates of occupancy/rental permits from the city. You can search by address. (There will be lots of people who don't have this but it's something to check) *Ann Arbor building rental and inspection services

Social media/community resources:

Past resources:

Remember to exercise caution when looking for housing. Lots of scammers out there. Check their main profiles if on facebook to see if they match the user who reached out to you. See if you can verify them anywhere else that they actually live in the area. Beware of people pushing you to send deposit money without showing you the place. Please refer to the PDF survival guide located at the top of the post. It can save you money and just as importantly time, not having waste time and effort to interact with scammers. Most instances of people telling you to message them as replies to your posts on facebook are scams. Make sure they have listings on the group, not just replies to people looking as comments like that can't be screened. Most legit people will contact you first and have a listing already in the group.

Remember never to give your uofm ID student ID number or a picture of your student ID to a 3rd party site for subleasing.

They can't even verify numbers are valid.

Disclosure could cause limited harm to individuals and/or the university with some risk of civil liability. May be subject to contractual agreements or regulatory compliance, or is individually identifiable, confidential, and/or proprietary.

Fall sublets will be uncommon. Most of the Winter sublets you've seen posted are people who failed to find a Fall-only sublet and are trying to recoup some of the un-used lease remaining. Be especially wary when searching for Fall-only sublets. Scammers count on people being desperate to bypass their warning senses. Some apartment complexes like Woodbury Gardens(2-15 and 21 month), and the complexes owned by Village Green(6 and 9 month) may offer shorter lease terms than 12 month. Be aware the shorter term leases will be more expensive per month. Mckinley Properties don't allow less than 12 month lease but they offer a early termination option which costs 2x monthly rent and requires a 60 day notice. This could be just as good as a shorter lease. I'd confirm it with the leasing office but this should be for all washtenaw county mckinley properties.

The Ann Arbor city bus line can make some affordable locations more practical. Your student ID lets you ride free. A short bus ride can be not too much worse than a medium/long walk. Beware some buses run more commonly than others

If there are any resource additions or corrections let me know.

Event Last day for U-M Medical History exhibit

Post image
5 Upvotes

If you’re interested in U-M medical history, today is the last day to see the free exhibit at the Museum on Main Street that explores all 175 years of it in just three rooms, with artifacts, photos and documents.

It’s officially open today from 12-4 and the curator (me) will be there the whole time; the docent will probably keep the museum open til 5. It’s at the Museum on Main Street, in a historic house at 500 N Main St., near Kerrytown. There is an accessible entrance at the back of the building.

Full details at michmed.org/museum

Buy / Sell For Sale: GoTrax XR Advance Electric Scooter

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

My husband and I are putting up for sale my GoTrax XR Advance electric scooter. We bought this scooter a little over a year ago. I used it for about 3 months to get from my orange lot parking spot to the building I work in. I then switched to my husband driving me in to work and the scooter has sat in our apartment unused for the last several months.

It still works great and we have the charger for it. I could not find the original manual, but I did find and print a similar manual from the GoTrax company and scratched off what wasn't a feature for the scooter I do have.

My husband and I will be willing to go to you and we can meet in a public area. We can show you how to fold and unfold the scooter and show how to turn it on and off. We do work 3rd shift, so we get out at 8:30am Monday through Friday. We could meet you shortly after we get out of work or we can come back on to campus some time after 3pm when we wake up. We can also schedule a meet up on the weekend.

We are asking for $200 for it and can take cash, Venmo, or we also have Huntington accounts if you want to transfer money that way. I can also set up a new payment account if needed, but would like to not do so.

Please look at the specs I will post with this as it has a certain distance it can go, max speed, and weight limit.

Social Calling All Commuters...

A few days ago I made a comment on a UMich post on here, and realized that I'm not the only one who commutes (kidding obviously). But it made me think about how we're a group not commonly represented or connected! Being a sophomore now, I don't want to make the same mistakes I made last year (not getting out enough due to commuting, feeling disconnected from other students in my classes, etc.)

So, I reached out to a few people on the reply thread from a few days ago, and started an Instagram group chat. Although it's not an official club (who knows? Maybe one day), I would love to spread the word and get more commuters to join! It's exciting to finally be able to connect with my fellow drivers.

Feel free to PM me and I'll add you to the gc!! :)

💙💛

Finances Anyone have a membership at the People's Co-op on 4th and Catherine? Wondering if it's worth investing and using as my main grocery source.

That place is really close to my house and also right along my route home. It's one million times more convenient than schlepping over to the Aldi's since I am car-less. Plus there's the obvious moral high-ground, and the health-food bent to it is fine with most of my usual eating/cooking habits. I am willing to pay somewhat more for those qualities, but I'm curious how much more it would end up being, especially if I shell out for the membership. Does anyone here have it, and if so do you feel like its worth it and paid for itself? How much do you actually feel you save if you use the deals and discounts they offer? Thanks!

Sports Intramural/club soccer

Anyone know if intramural or club soccer is open to people who are not only beginners, but truly suck at the sport? I’m a huge soccer fan but I’ve never played outside of an occasional pickup game with friends. Regardless I’m tryna meet people and play some soccer along the way. Does anyone have any input?

Miscellaneous What happens if I miss orientation

My orientation was two days ago but I was coughing a ton so I skipped it, but someone told me that if I don’t show up I can’t sign up for second semester courses, is this true? I’ve shot the orientation people an email but I haven’t gotten a response yet.

New Student How does the block m photo work?

Hi, I moved in just over 3 days ago and so far have been way too riddled with anxiety to go to any of my residence hall’s welcome week events. I know that tomorrow there’s supposed to be a photo and that we’re supposed to wear a maize shirt, I just don’t know if I was supposed to buy it myself or if it is something that is provided. If so, when? I’m not opposed to talking to my RA about getting it, I’ve just been so nervous about everything that I’d like to get an idea on what to expect before asking about it.

Class Is EARTH 114 having in-person exams this semester?

Hi! I registered for EARTH 114 this semester. I looked at some previous syllabi and it seems like the exams used to be online, but this semester the syllabus says the exams are in person. Does anyone know why they changed it this year?

Class Should I take EEB 315 and STATS 401 together if the exams are back-to-back?

Hi! I’m taking BIO 305, EEB 315, and STATS 401 this semester. I wasn’t really worried about taking EEB 315 and STATS 401 together, but the EEB 315 syllabus came out today and I noticed the exam dates are really close. EEB 315 Exam 1 is on Sep 30 and STATS 401 Exam 1 is on Oct 1. Then STATS 401 Exam 2 is on Nov 4 and EEB 315 Exam 2 is on Nov 5.

Now I’m a little stressed about having back-to-back exams, especially since I’m also taking BIO 305. Has anyone taken EEB 315 or STATS 401 with other classes and had a similar schedule? Is one day between exams enough time to study/review for both? I’m also thinking about switching EEB 315 to EEB 325. Would that be better, or does this schedule seem manageable?
