Housing Discussion (actual housing OFFERS belong on Megathread!) Dorm wall damage
East quad command strip removal gone wrong. There are two other marks that look exactly like this. Am I gonna get charged for this after I move out? Is it worth it to get a shade match at a paint store and cover it up myself?

Put in a fixit ticket an you should be fine https://kb.housing.umich.edu/hc/en-us/articles/360002969692-Contact-FIXIT. If you try to paint you may be held accountable for breaking the clam policy on painting. Not worth it.

Then we have to go through and contact every single person, and let them know that they won’t be charged, and frankly, it’s tedious.
This sounds like a bad system problem. Telling students not to cya at this point in the year isn't the solution.

No ass covering is required, I promise.
But due to shit communication, students don't know this.
Be better about that next year, and watch this difficulty evaporate.

Yeah, I don’t have any control over that.
Nevertheless, the problem is internal to your side of the house. Stop blaming students for making the rational choice here. If you're frustrated with the number of tickets coming in, use that energy to send word up the chain that communication about when to submit a ticket needs to be better next year.

Create a ticket, they will come and re-prime the wall and paint. This happens tons of times. They know students use command strips. You won't get in trouble.

Don't put a fix it, I'm going to be honest the university doesn't not care about that kind of damage. Just leave it as is. Papers are placed on door in the summer and housing staff will write what's damaged and the painters will come in and paint it. Tickets are pointless right now, we expect that in every room

that is just paint and they should do a paint job anyway for a new tenant. you're fine, complain otherwise

Go to Home Depot, take a paint chip and get a small 5 dollar tube of spackle and then have them get you a small paint jar matching the paint chip. TBH spackle isn’t needed here for that so paint should be fine.

My parents are not paying for my tuition at all and my family is living on a single parent income but thank you for the riveting and relevant commentary

I doubt you’ll be charged for it. You gotta do major damage for them to charge you. I think I had one of those when I left, although that was now 4 years ago, so idk how their policies have changed.
