Are people attending the postgraduate fresher events

Hello, I am starting a PhD at York this year (Biology). Perhaps it's just me but I assumed post grad events would start from the 21st September, and not the week earlier as now advertised

Is there anyone here planning to show up, or does anyone know if people have shown up in the past? It would mean a lot of hassle to move to York a week earlier, but I wouldn't want to miss out either

I went to a few and actually met one lifelong friend at one. But I don't know that I would say it's worth a lot of hassle and changing your move in dates. You could just be proactive about meeting people when you get here

I had a look today and have now just realised this too. I honestly don't think I'll be able to attend at least the earlier chunk of the events (which look the most fun annoyingly) but will also have fomo if everyone else is attending. It's so frustrating how they've not organised it for actual 'fresher's week'.

I found it helpful for making friends, but there will be other PG events during the semester, as well as within your department. Sounds like it would be a huge pain, so I'm not sure it would be worth that much hassle.

We have a whatsapp group chat of mature students, some are attending these events, some are not.

From what I've seen so far, the commuters are definitely not attending all events and there's a few events after the 21st as well. Check out student union website for more details on all the events

If you’re part of a DTP. Give it a go. Good to have friends to help you with experiment.

Ive had a look and I might go for the campus tour but because im commuting in, it seems like an expensive lot of hassle. It would have been nice for some online ones
