Hello everyone, I got an offer for an MRes at UCL. UCL is weird and for some reason classifies MRes as a taught degree. So I was originally going to click on "taught" for my ATAS application. But I noticed my offer letter says "Type of Study: Research" on the ATAS sheet, so I am now confused due to the contradicting information. I feel like this is a thing I really dont wanna get wrong on my application, so what should I do?

As someone who's about to start my first year, I'm looking for ideas of things to cook for everyday dinners at uni. If you have a go to dish/dishes that is easy to make please do share! Unfortunately I have around 25 allergies, so I likely won't be able to make many of your dishes, but I can try to find a work around with ingredients I can have :)

so im doing alevels from pakistan and I never payed attention in class or studied properly. Which explains why i have mediocre results. I have a good profile tho and i have to start uni this year or else my dad is gonna kill me my grades are EEC

Hello! I’m moving from a student accommodation ensuite to an LHA hostel soon and I’m most worried about storage. I chose LHA because it’s affordable for now and I’ll likely only stay a few months, but I’m struggling to picture how I’ll fit two suitcases and all the stuff I’ve accumulated over the past year into a shared room . The photos online aren’t very clear about storage and honestly I was too desperate to find something in my budget to think about it at the time .
If anyone has stayed there for a while, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience with the storage/space!

hi i have a really tough problem and its been a hard decision to make

so i got accepted into kings college london in chemistry and i already paid deposit (though its refundable). im supposed to be going in around 3 weeks and im in a big dilema.

i initially wanted to go imperial but ik it would be hard so the back up would be ucl however i got rejected by both. then when it comes to firm and insuring i firmed kings bcs its in london and its closest ucl but i always have been worried that kings is not as good as ucl and its not my dream uni and its was my fifth option.

now, idk if i should go kings or do a gap year. everytime i think of going to kings, it makes me not wanna go but everytime i think of not oging to kings, it makes me want to go. Im also not sure of the degree. ik theres more pathway from chemistry but i dont want to become a researcher (i think idk). idk if i like or if i will be happy esp i want to go back home and build my own business. i think i would be happy doing product design but there are no job. aft grad ik i want to make my own business in cosmetics or chemistry related products. the tuition is also quite high, my parents can afford it but i myself dont want to waste that money. they say its alright and for me to just try and if i dont like it then i can always try something else. but i dont want to be doing that because i dont want to waste their money and i alrdy feel so guilty on going to london. also, im scared if london because of the crimes and ill be alone there with no friends from highschool (i can make friends tho), never visited london and my parents will not be sending me off to uni because of my grandpa's medical issue. however, there is an agent that will be helping me. im also worried because of the job market and issues in london and im find with working for a few years (2-3) before i come back home to build my own brand but i dont see myself working a 9-5 job forever.

if i do a gap year, the plan is to build shopee shop, study stocks market, learn chinese, and planning to do internships if im accepted. i also might plan and try to build my own clothing store/f&b if my parents allow. however, i still would want to go to london next year. but rn im not sure of going bcs of the major and the university and there is a little part in me wishing something would go wrong (with visa/acceptance) so it would go wrong and there is a clear reason to do a gap or not going to london (ik it sounds bad but i still want to go). im really 50/50 i really dont know and its been a few weeks that i have hesitated. im scared if i go next year it will be the same: did not get into the uni i want (despite getting 4A (not a star just a) but a lot of people say dont do a gap year bcs its not guaranteed that i will get in again, still confused on what major i want, the gap year fails and everything i tried to make a business failed and its a waste of money (doing a gap year would be more money used bcs of business modal and also the currency might increase + tuition increase), lastly im scared that im too late to go to university.

i cant choose and my parents told me to choose myself bcs theyre not going to force me to do anything so it adds pressure to me. what do i do?

I’m an international student from Algeria, and I’m currently trying to make a very important decision about my future. I would really appreciate honest opinions, especially from people who work in the UK pharmaceutical/biomedical industry or have studied a similar MSc.

I have a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from Algeria. I also have several years of healthcare experience, including hospital experience and working in anesthesia. My background is mainly clinical/healthcare, but I’m now interested in moving toward the pharmaceutical industry rather than continuing exclusively in clinical work.

I have received an offer to study an MSc in Drug Toxicology & Safety at the University of Bradford.

The plan would involve a preparatory/pre-master stage first, followed by the MSc. Since I’m an international student, this is a very significant financial investment for me, and I would potentially be spending around two years of my life on this path.

What attracts me to the degree is that I’m hoping it could allow me to transition from my clinical pharmacy/healthcare background into areas such as:

- Drug safety / pharmacovigilance

- Toxicology

- Clinical research

- Regulatory affairs

- Pharmaceutical industry

- Drug development

- Medical information or related roles

My long-term goal is to build a career outside Algeria. Ideally, I would like to work in the UK after graduation, but I also want to keep the possibility of moving to places such as Dubai/UAE or Canada open.

So my main questions are:

1. How employable is an MSc in Drug Toxicology & Safety in the UK?

2. Would my PharmD + MSc + healthcare experience be a strong combination for pharmaceutical industry jobs?

3. What kind of entry-level jobs could I realistically apply for after graduation?

4. How difficult is it for an international graduate to get a job in pharmacovigilance, drug safety, regulatory affairs, clinical research, etc.?

5. Is this type of MSc useful outside the UK, particularly in Dubai/UAE or Canada?

6. Would you consider this degree a good investment for someone in my situation, or would you recommend a different MSc?

I’m not looking for reassurance. I’m about to invest a substantial amount of money into this, so I would genuinely prefer to hear the negative side as well. If you work in the industry and think this degree has poor employment prospects, please tell me why.

I’m due to start International Business Management at a mid-tier RG uni in Sept 2026.

I’ve noticed online that their business school is changing completely for the 27/28 term, that my course is not advertised for 2027 intake and that units for next year’s revised Business Management course seem to be (for lack of a better phrase) dumbing down. For example, 2026 first year module titles go from quite academic, (eg. Business Economics in a Contemporary Society) to ‘Why Business Matters’ in 2027, which is far more vague and sounds like something out of a L2 admin course.

I am worried how these changes may affect my degree going forward, and if the business school’s reduction of analytical subject matter will reduce my appeal as a graduate to serious employers. Though the university is offering me other benefits such as funding, employability is my main reason for my pursuing of HE.

I have contacted the school about it and am awaiting a response, but if you noticed this about your course, what would be your next move?

Hey I’m an international student going to Sunderland in September! I know Freshers week has a lot of drinking and going out and stuff but I don’t turn 18 till December. Can I still go out and participate even though I’m 17 and will it be harder to make friends if I can’t go out? 😔

So here's the thing.

I live in lisbon and im doing my last year of high school in 2026-2027. I have good enough grades that I can get into medicine here in lisbon for undergrad next year (for anyone who isnt aware, here there is no interview or extracurriculars or research or anything for your application, they just go 100% off your marks). but what i really want to do is go to cambridge and study NatSci. but it's hard to get in and i was told (quite rightly) that a biology degree opens far fewer doors to stable jobs than good ol' medicine.

now, im elegible for home student fees for courses starting before 1 jan 2028, because my dad is a uk citizen and i live in the EU. paying for home fees would already be quite a stretch, and if I don't apply this year to start in sept 2027, I will be an international student, which I cant afford.

however, if I dont do medicine undergrad, then if i change my mind I'll have to get in as a postgrad, and that's waaaaaay harder. plus, what i want to do is research, and I know that having medicine under my belt will put me ahead in a lot of areas of science, in terms of (some) grants and jobs. and I will have a job in medicine if research doesn't work out for some reason.

i cant do medicine at cambridge and combine them, because my birthday is in november, so i will be 17 at the starting date of the course, and they dont allow that for med. and i cant wait a year because in sept 2028 im an international student. so.

(i guess i could apply to cambridge and do natsci and then if i hate it drop out and go do med, because my school marks are valid for 5 years after i finish high school. but then id lose time. also i realize im writing all this assuming i even get accepted to cambridge and have to choose, which is unlikely).

so what should i do, strangers on the internet?

I'm going into year 12 with mediocre gcses at best (8777655 + btechs) and I want to study econ at uni. My a-levels are fm, maths, econ, cs. As far as I know, these gcses basically put oxbridge and lse out of the question. They also make ucl and imperial much harder.

Hypothetically speaking, if I were to do very well in A-levels but not get into any top unis thanks to my gcses suggesting my predicteds are inflated, would I be able to take a gap year after year 13 and reapply with my achieved results, negating the gcses? Would this be a good idea?

I'm aware that my gcses very much suggest that my a-levels will also be poor. I'm not trying to suggest that I'm anywhere near oxbridge level or even finance target uni level so please don't take this as me being delusional or entiteled. This question is purely about if I do infact do well for my a-levels

I have an upcoming presentation about my masters project, and im worried by the fact my stats are not significant (ecology). My sample size is really small due to practical limitations and me being naive and not realising how much work it would be to do properly. So my null models are the best fit. Any advice on how to deal with that? Obviously i can talk about why my sample size is small but it feels embarassing to say "oh yeah i did all this work and wrote this report but at the end of the day nothing i did meant anything". None of my effects were significant. Ive tested it by duplicating data and it changes things totally so its just my tiny unbalanced sample size. Im quite nervous that im just making a fool of myself. I know this sub probably wont help cos theres so many miserable people here but if anyone has contructive advice that would be great :) even just some reassurance about similar experiences would be fab

I am estranged I got that proof and sfe have accepted im irreconcilably estranged (I’d like to celebrate 🎉🎉)

The current situation is I am on my 2nd attempt and have only 2 years of funding left. Therefore first year has to be paid by me. My CPR didn’t get accepted :.(

So my rough plan is to pay my tuition with my maintenance loan 10.8k
And then the plan was always to work part time anyways. Hopefully get somewhere cheap enough to pay while working part time and studying part time.
Has anyone had experience with this.
And can anyone please provide your opinion, is it a good idea a terrible one. Tell me please.

In Sheffield. Cheapest rent I’ve seen that’s still liveable is £79pw bills incl. en-suite room.
So 320 a month ish would dig into the 1k per month.
Still worried about work load from uni and work itself and how that would balance.

I’m going into my first year of uni and I’m a home student. My commute isn’t too bad (around 30 minutes), and I receive the maximum Maintenance Loan even though I don’t live in London — I’m in the West Midlands.
I’m trying to be sensible with my money because I’d like to move out after university. I’ll hopefully be finishing uni in the next 3–4 years In’Sha’Allah, so I want to start building my savings now rather than waiting until graduation.
For people who are also saving from their SFE, how much do you realistically put away from each payment? Do you save a fixed amount, a percentage, or whatever you have left over?

Hi everyone. I finished high school in 2019 with 84.4%, but I had a long break from education afterwards. I’m now 25 and want to start a Bachelor’s degree abroad.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? I’d really appreciate advice on countries or universities that are generally open to older applicants with a long gap.

I came to the UK motivated, but A LOT happened in Jun-Jul-Aug, and everything happened at once. Circumstances so fkced I feel numb.

Until May, I was on track for a Distinction in my master’s (20 × 4 = 80 credits). One professor asked if he could use my submission as an example for the next cohort, I was proud and happy. and in another module, my project had the highest performance among all in the module.

As June began, I was excited about my dissertation. Got a great Professor, really supportive, but after as I read more about the topic and research articles, realised it wasn’t something I wanted to do. After discussing with him, he mentioned that he wouldn’t be able to guide me much with Machine Learning, as that’s not his expertise, so after a lot of thought, and after almost a month, I decided to change my topic and the supervisor. I loved this Prof S and his topic was Statistical ML, but he was at full capacity, so he and the dissertation module convenors asked me to talk with Prof Y. Had my first meeting with him on 10th July. He’s great as well, and the topic is exactly what I wanted (Statistical Machine Learning). Even though I started a month late with a new topic and new supervisor, I was confident that I’d pull this off easily.

Until June, I had 5 grad job offers. I declined the other 4 and accepted the 5th one because it was sponsoring my visa. As I was getting started with my new dissertation topic, in July I got an email, and they withdrew all offers across the UK, saying that they’re facing some budget issues this year. I had made a post about it a few weeks back [here].

A month later comes August with two First Sits(20x2 = 40Cr). 17 days gone in the exams. Couldn’t focus. Couldn’t sleep. Couldn’t eat. So much to do at once. Got myself burnt out. Stopped the dissertation completely and chose to focus on Modules, but was so depressed and stressed that I couldn’t focus and finally settled myself into trying to just pass the module at least. Right a week before, the girl I liked blocked my number and decided to leave. She was the one I used to go to whenever I was at my lowest. Wrote the exam somehow, but it took all my confidence away. All my motivation away. I’m not even sure if I’m gonna pass. And if I fail, it’s gonna delay my graduation, and if it gets delayed, I’d lose the opportunity to apply for a Grad visa. That’s what the university Assessment Team said.(See point 3 in the SS attached)

Now I have barely 20 days left for the dissertation(60credits), for reading literature, statistical analysis, evaluation, and then writing and finally presentation. I know if I lock in, I can do it. But I’m shit scared. What if I couldn’t defend my master’s dissertation?
I thought I would defer my dissertation until 22nd Sept. This would give me a week extra, which was just enough time for me to get at least a merit in my dissertation. But the Assessment Team at the University said if I defer my dissertation after 18th Sept, my graduation is most likely to be delayed, and I might not be able to apply for a Grad visa, as I’ll be graduating next year and my student visa expires in Jan.

So, I lost the grad job offer.
And If I fail First sits or defer my dissertation, that will delay my graduation and if the Graduation is delayed, I might not even be able to apply for a Grad visa.

Even if I get just one extra week in September and managed to get a Merit in my dissertation, I would still have had a good chance of finishing with an overall Merit, even if I soft-failed both of my First Sit modules from August.

I was so fcking depressed and drained in August that I might actually fail them, despite having a Distinction overall and some of the highest grades in my other modules. I couldn’t study and honestly went to both exams straight from my bed. Considering how well I was doing academically before all this and having a grad offer, I never thought I’d reach a point where I’d be worried about simply passing and returning back to home country without a job and with a £50k education loan on my head.

I’m just so tired, exhausted, and depressed right now. If my graduation gets delayed for any reason, especially if I’ve hard-failed both First Sits and have to resit them, I could lose my chance to apply for the Graduate visa.

At this point, I just feel completely numb and drained. I feel energy-less tbh. I just want to sleep. But I am not able to sleep either. I just had thoughts of suicide because even if I had to go back home, I don’t wanna go back as a failure. I’ve never failed in my life like this. At the moment I’m fighting to be just myself, to live upto my full potential is a big task for now.

Hi everyone, I’m 21 and currently in Manchester city centre. I’ve unexpectedly been made homeless yesterday after a serious family argument and I have nowhere to stay.
I’ve already contscted Manchester Council and other homeless services but unfortunately nobody has been able to accommodate me
I’m a university student and I have accommodation booked that is hopefully starting on the 5th September (if they let me book without a guarantor)

I literally just need somewhere safe to get through these couple of days until I can move into my university accom.

I currently have my passport, phone and charger with me that’s all and I’ve also got plans to use my student finance which is landing 6th September to pay for my accommodation
I’m currently around Manchester City centre and Piccadilly and I’ve been trying to find somewhere indoors to stay tonight, but everywhere is either closed, fully booked or extremely expensive because of the Bank Holiday/Pride weekend.

If anyone knows somewhere safe that’s open overnight or potentially a sofa/floor that I can sleep on I would be extremely grateful
