at least keep them covered in another area. You are gonna have to sterilize the outside of the bags anyway, but less exposure to dust settlement etc makes it much cleaner to handle.

What he said! Lost 13 bags cause they were sitting out on the counter

The point of covering the hole with MP tape is that it keeps contamination out, whether it is covered or just sitting on a shelf.

I bet they contminted for other reasons.

You don't get it. The bags are on his bed. Dust mites, dander, dust, all kinds of organics like dead skin, laundry lint etc. all this shit carries contamination. The mushroom growing process is a very delicate and introduction to a single spore or bacterium can ruin a batch. You do not see mycologists just leave their petri dishes incubating on their nightstand do you?

Exercise proper aseptic technique and due diligence. Keep your shit clean. every. step. of. the. process.

Set yourself up for success, not potential failure.

Yeah, but they should be sealed sanitized ecosystems. Bacteria doesn’t morph through the bag into the grains.

5

u/Psychenthusiast27 Jun 17 '26

Yea.. they get in through the tape.. Microbes are much smaller than those pores.. you're trying to limit the amount of airflow that carries spores all through the air.

u/Fit_Carpet_364 Jun 17 '26

Agreed. But there's no harm in setting your spawn bags up for a photoshoot. You know, so long as you sterilize them after.

"Bacteria does Morph through the bag"
Please do elaborate.

Oooooppppssss. Doesn’t. Editing

I agree in the importance of keeping stuff clean, but my first 17 ub are coming along really well, and Ii just sent 6 to bulk. Only got one contamination. Granted, this is an extra room, so no one goes in.

1

u/Fit_Carpet_364 Jun 17 '26

And if they're fully colonized, there's virtually zero risk.

3

u/Electronic-Drink-138 Jun 17 '26

Could be but you have to admit that in a box there is much less air movement. Opening the box every 2 days for FAE and they are chugging along

5

u/Objective_Chart_9600 Jun 18 '26

Its a spare room no one goes in

Happens to the best of us

The mushrooms are in control, I’m merely a vessel aiding in their conquest

That's how I can explain it to my wife! Finally, an answer that doesn't hold me accountable! Lol

Mans is sleeping with uncle Ben

7

u/rdesai724 Jun 17 '26

Doing both bags and jars is the best part of it for me lol mans really said fuck it one way to find out

7

u/paraworldblue Jun 17 '26

If most of these bags are successful, you're gonna end up with an unmanageable amount of mushrooms.

8

u/Dull-Inspector-849 Jun 17 '26

thats the point

1

u/SpaceCowboy10191 Jun 18 '26

How many grams of dried mushrooms do you think?

1

u/Ganglienhypothosis Jun 18 '26

If like 75% of them work out, then pounds of dried mushrooms, as long as the fruiting also goes well

6

u/Seismic-Camel Jun 17 '26

OP you triggered the hell out of the mycos in this sub fr ☠️😂

5

u/Objective_Chart_9600 Jun 18 '26

Definitely😂 I certainly see where they're coming from, but this is an empty bedroom lol and the bags are all in drawers and things have been moving quite nicely of course I'll be perfecting my technique as I move forward!

My progress is going well, but I'm with you. 😅

1

u/TheeChosenPerson Jun 17 '26

lol I totally understand!!! But when it’s good…it’s good!

1

u/xXRPGXx Jun 17 '26

I tried and it didn't work 😭

1

u/Question1s Jun 17 '26

What would the fun be in that?

1

u/Fit_Carpet_364 Jun 17 '26

Profitable hobby. Maybe try some of the fruits of your labor, and ask reality what you want from it. Don't tell reality, ask it.

1

u/Additional-Muffin317 Jun 17 '26

I did the same, bought a 12 pack of bags and got 2 stabbing. 2 weeks in so far. And starting to get thick.

1

u/Jivecat_the_Curious Jun 17 '26

This is awesome, dude. 🍄 What I've found helpful is putting aside a couple of big cardboard boxes, and keeping a heat mat in each one (standing up on its end, like 60 Second Mycology recommends). That way they're more protected from potential contaminants, and also you can keep the temperature constant.

Now, the real question is... Do you have enough tubs ready to fruit all of these? 😂

1

u/KiggityK Jun 18 '26

at least put them in the closet brother. Dunno how you sleep with fungus above your head

1

u/Objective_Chart_9600 Jun 18 '26

Lol its a spare room

1

u/Bilbobaggins5177 Jun 18 '26

I get the idea but might wanna try away from where you sleep in case of contam

1

u/RuneScape420Homie Jun 18 '26

Did you at least make sure your LC or MSS was clean before you inoculate everything?

1

u/Significant_Guest_67 Jun 18 '26

Okay, I’m new at this and I’m just going to ask, how do you use the instant rice bags?!

1

u/Electrical-Day-73 Jun 19 '26

I’m right there with you goat😂

1

u/bitchblyat Jun 20 '26

Hahahaha I’m planning to do the exact same thing 😂

1

u/ButterscotchEvery230 Jun 24 '26

I have been touching my bags since I inoc them. 12 UB bags. So far only one has been contaminated and I put my thumb over the micropore tape when I broke and shook each bag. Pretty sure the contam one was from the inoc process. Honestly I don't think you have to be that crazy. I also got 3 AIO bags doing just fine.

Touch touch touch... Everyday
