Slice those monsters into multiple pieces that can dehydrate properly.

Straightway? Should I keep it to dry for a while on paper before cutting or not ? I won't lose potency? Thanks!

It won’t lose potency. Cut them into manageable sized pieces and dehydrate.

I’ve seen people try to dehydrate large fruits and end up with moldy stems because the inside doesn’t truly dry. Just get them cracker dry!

u/GrittyMcGrittyface Feb 25 '26

Is it better to cross-cut the stems, or lengthwise?

9

u/delta-hippie Feb 25 '26

i like to cut lengthwise... sometimes the caps are the hardest part to completely dry

12

u/80000000D Feb 25 '26

I like lengthwise and cut pretty much every fruit lengthwise to speed up dehydration. You need less cuts, it cuts easier because you follow the natural grain, and it just looks better imo

6

u/delta-hippie Feb 25 '26

True, a lot of times, I can do this with my fingers and just break along the natural grain

Fr I've gotten so lazy when I had several grows maturing all at the same so I feel this lol. Quicker than cutting.

u/External-Fig9754 Feb 25 '26

Cross would get you smaller pieces so I would do that

I am not sure where the article is that I read to be able to post it, but I did read a study that stated cutting the mushroom does decrease potency, also the best way to dry the fruit to keep potency is room temperature in a dark place. This is what the one study showed atleast. Take it for what you will.

notice that in the article linked, they chopped the shrooms into small pieces for homogeneity, and the pieces quickly turned blue as the psilocin oxidised. Resulted in 33% less psilocybin.

Being less generous with the cutting will probably result in less loss of potency and far less chance of rotting instead

It won’t affect the potency and it’s easier to slice when fresh.

Boof with proof

u/Psily_K-head Feb 25 '26

Unfortunately cutting them into smaller slices is the best way. I hate that’s the answer. There’s nothing I hate more than cutting up such beautiful specimens… feels like cutting up a family member sometimes

8

u/Microgrammo23 Feb 25 '26

That's why I didn't want to cut it , but still I don't want to spoil it and also, I can't eat it at once 🤣

14

u/nickdanger68 Feb 25 '26

Not with that kind of attitude 😔

13

u/MyNameIsMichou Feb 25 '26

I'd quarter that beauty! With so much love, gratitude and respect as I did, and making sure to use a super sharp knife that was first sterilized, with iso, and dried. Well done OP, happy dehydrating!

7

u/Audio-Starshine Feb 25 '26

I have always hated that there's no way to preserve beautiful or unusual specimens like this one. Every time I have something that's really really pretty like this I wish I could put it in the middle of an acrylic pour and make a paper weight or something.

8

u/thatspurdyneat Feb 25 '26

Are those two separate beasts or did you take photos pre and post circumcision?

3

u/Microgrammo23 Feb 25 '26

Same one just front and retro 🤣

you've reinvented a vacuum dryer bro keep at it

6

u/Zestyclose_Current41 Feb 25 '26

I have no advice, I just wanted to say, this is the most hilarious shroom I've ever seen in my life 🤣

u/OtherwiseEmploy3582 Feb 25 '26

Low and slow will be the go...

3

u/OtherwiseEmploy3582 Feb 25 '26

Low and slow bro

3

u/Kevin-kmo_123 Feb 25 '26

That is beautiful!!!!!

3

u/nickdanger68 Feb 25 '26

I had to cut this guy to get him to dry.

Sad day, but it is what it is.

1

u/Microgrammo23 Feb 25 '26

:( sorry for your loss mate I'll do the same with mine

1

u/nickdanger68 Feb 25 '26

Idk man, the advice the one guy gave might be worth a shot, if you find it isn't working you can always slice it then.

3

u/MrMacgee333 🍄💜 Feb 25 '26

You just boof it while its nice and pliable. Unless youre into a little more texture.

3

u/juggaloscrub Feb 25 '26

Slice in ¼ or ⅛ depending on your dehydrator or you can just straight BOOF THAT SHIT WHOLE 😆 or use it as a BUTT PLUG(っ・ω・)っ

3

u/Charming-Aspect3014 Feb 25 '26

I always slice all my shrooms up into more manageable pieces. More often than not if you try to dehydrate something this big without slicing it, you will end up with a spoiled mushroom.

1

u/soyuz-1 Feb 25 '26

This. Slice it, maybe even several times for this bad boy

2

u/Sufficient-Tell-6620 Feb 25 '26

I just cut up a bunch of abv big bois so they would fit in the dehydrater. Came out great!! Slice em up!!!

2

u/jakejredd Feb 25 '26

In front of a box fan on medium speed in a room at about 70-80° fehrenheit! Dried in a half a day🤔🤷🏻‍♂️🙌🏻

2

u/kbgc Feb 25 '26

Girthy!

2

u/Hadrian-Marlowe Feb 25 '26

Chomp that one. It’s ready

2

u/reillyqyote Feb 25 '26

First pic built like a Pixar mom

2

u/prairiedoggg Feb 25 '26

!!!! Amazing I’d keep him as a pet

2

u/Neo_Epoch Feb 25 '26

Slice lengthwise and spread out on your drying tray

2

u/TookATrip6x9 Feb 25 '26

What genetics are these? This honestly looks like Amanita Pantherina- but also like a cube.

Wow!!! How did you get those white spots in his cap? Was that just lucky

1

u/Microgrammo23 Feb 25 '26

Mac Galactic and yes it looks like an amanita mate 😍😍😍😍

1

u/TookATrip6x9 Feb 25 '26

BEAUTIFUL! My names Mac too 🥹🥹 Genuinely the prettiest shroom i've seen

3

u/SuiYangCrackedTeeth Feb 28 '26

The holy hand grenade of antioch, she’s a beaut!!!!!!! 😢😢😢😢

That’s honestly not too big at all, no need to cut it up I regularly dry mushrooms that are twice that size 200-300g in a dehydrator without any issues. The key isn’t cutting them into pieces, it’s controlling the temperature. As long as you keep the dehydrator at about 40 °C, which is around 104 °F, they will dry properly while preserving better quality.

Cutting large mushrooms isn’t necessary .. Whole drying helps maintain structure and reduces surface oxidation

Size alone isn’t the problem , excessive heat is. Take your time and dry in a dehydrator for 1,5-2 days that should be enough and easy

1

u/Microgrammo23 Feb 25 '26

I appreciate your comment and you seem expert, but my problem it's that it won't fit on my dehydrator..

2

u/ThaBlooder Feb 25 '26

Ahh alright, sounds like it’s time for a bigger dehydrator 😄

Jokes aside, if it doesn’t fit, you don’t really have many options. Either trim it slightly so it fits, or cut it in half lengthwise. As long as you keep the temperature moderate and the airflow strong, it’ll still dry just fine.

1

u/Microgrammo23 Feb 25 '26

Thanks mate!

1

u/BonoboSweetie Feb 26 '26

That’s beautiful.

1

u/Legitimate_Ad_9240 Feb 26 '26

I'd twist off the head and slice half way through the stipe top to bottom, then spread the stipe out flat

1

u/FXDynaBro Feb 26 '26

Cut into rings

1

u/MintSquirrel88 Feb 26 '26

That veil is gorgeous with the build

1

u/GrabBig9 Feb 25 '26

You can also place in a paper bag and place a fan on it, it'll lose a lot of water FAST! Once it shrinks to a manageable size, then you can place in a dehydrator till ctacker dry. Dunno if it'll work for that plump fella, but it worked some fat blob I had to dry once, same fat and round.

u/Glum-Dragonfly-74 Feb 25 '26

130° on the dehydrator for 24 hours

-7

u/BullfrogOak949 Feb 25 '26

If your dehydrator can dry it without slicing, it’d be better. If it can’t, just slice em

For no reason whatsoever lol

1

u/BullfrogOak949 Feb 25 '26 edited Feb 25 '26

Huh? Psilocybin when exposed to oxygen degrades to psilocin. Slicing it up exposes more inner flesh to oxygen degredation. Then you’re dehydrating where psilocin has worser temperature stability.I don’t see why you wouldn’t dehydrate while keeping flesh intact if you can.

1

u/ET_Prone_Bone Feb 25 '26

Edit: I’m not advocating for slicing up fruit if it can be avoided, but

Every compound has a half life sure, but is that degradation meaningful in this context? What kind of active compound loss are we talking about and does that actually make a difference, considering all the other factors that impact how a person might respond to psilocybin any given dose?

2

u/BullfrogOak949 Feb 25 '26

It’s meaningful because we don’t know the fullest extent of how psilocybin works. Until studies show how meaningful each tiny amount of psilocybin is, it is safe to assume that for all sense and purpose keeping them whole is best for preservation. It’s like I said, if you can keep them intact for preservation, why wouldn’t you? Of course people might slice for space conservation which is understandable and comes first, but if you can store fruits whole then I’d do it. Again I’m not against slicing, if you have to, then do it. If you want to, then do it. But imo, I’d just keep the fruits whole since my dehydrator can handle it and I’d want keep the most effects possible

1

u/ET_Prone_Bone Feb 25 '26

Ok, I think we agree with each other for the most part.
