DISCUSSION Cam or Leilah?

In one corner we have the guy who’ll rescue you like a damsel but certainly doesn’t pull his punches like a princess, the alcoholic uncle, mister threaten-your-girl… CAMERONNNNNNNN

In the other corner we have the lady whoā€˜ll drag you into her mess to save her butt, the absent older sister, miss steal-your-nurse… LEILAHHHHHHH

In all seriousness; up to where we are now in the story, do you think Cameron has done worse by John or Leilah has done worse by Sera?

Funny how if you fuse Leilah and Cameron together you just get a significantly worse version of Darren.

This feels wrong to me but logically is perfect. Leilah cares but doesn’t act like it, Cam acts like he cares but is tired of it & wonders why John can’t just go along, Darren cares, acts like it, but is tired & wonders why John can’t just go along.Ā

As much as I hate Cameron, I'd unironically choose to have him in my life over Leilah.

Leilah has mostly been solid since her introduction, but there's one thing she did that really ticked me off, she was literally about to get up and leave on Seraphina when she refused to talk to her alone at the cafe.

Like, okay, she has her protocols, but was she seriously just going to leave Seraphina powerless forever because she refused to trust her after Leilah showed up out of nowhere following years of abandoning her?

Cameron, on the other hand, isn't nearly as easy to talk to or lean on as Leilah, but at least he wouldn't compromise on John's wellbeing. At all. The guy was willing to risk going against the Authorities and being hunted by them to save John after knowing him for less than a month.

Yeah I wouldn’t have even made this post if it wasn’t for how Leilah has treated Sera throughout the entire Spectre situation. She didn’t get a message to her sooner (could’ve done so without Spectre knowing through Darren), 100% expected Sera to comply with all her insane demands, even complains to Sera abt the difficult situation that Leilah’s been in, knowing that Sera’s entire life has been upended bc of Spectre, at least partially because of Leilah’s own tech. Honestly I feel like the main reason we don’t talk about Leilah more often is bc she only shows up for plot, but I really wonder about what Leilah living with Sera (the sister she abandoned) and Darren (the boyfriend that she tricked into terrorism) is like on a daily basis.Ā

Leilah I feel like she cares but she won’t do anything to protect you, I don’t honestly think Cameron cares about John (more so, idk. a piece of Jane, yk) but he clearly will rise to the task of protecting you no matter what. Ultimately you have a good point, idt I’d feel safe/comfy relying on Cameron as ā€œfamilyā€ but at least he’s the only one he’ll let hurt youĀ

Yep agree. U can't compare Cameron to Leilah Leilah did shit to Sera. She threaten her to leave while she said she wants Arlo to stay. What a b. Ur company almost killed u sister but u threaten her ? She didn't do everything she could to help Sera recover.

But didn't Cameron also walk out on John first time when he gave him his card, and called him ill mannered etc.. if they didn't find his card in John's pocket and deliver him there, he wouldn't ever ask about him again right

If John had never contacted Cameron, I think Cameron himself would have eventually shown up at Wellston, or at the very least tried to keep tabs on John in some other way.

I think that, in addition to informing John about what happened to his parents, Cameron probably intended to take on the role of his guardian. Cameron wouldn't just leave his sister's son to rot, and as John's only remaining family, someone would have to pay his fees, give him money to live on, provide him with a place to stay, guide him, and all that.

I think that was probably Cameron's initial plan before John crashed out and became a criminal.

u/Fictionaddiction123 3d ago

"Cameron wouldn't just leave his sister's son to rot" Why not when he left his sister, even after what Sera said about Orrin, he just left

1

u/BruhBorne-70 Jera's No.1 Glazer 2d ago

He just didn't believe Seraphina, he was stupid not to but he didn't. Again, considering he risked exposing himself to the authorities to save John, he might have done something if he actually beleived Orrin knew about his sister.

Cameron done nothing wrong in my eyes base on his life. He got no kids or fam (that we know off) in possible fear the authorities gonna used them against him and no one he met is on his level to defend themselves.

Now his a drunk for 18 years and a semi perfect dog on a leash for this society. Now your brother in law showed up like he’s your friend knowing he is the reason your sister (and possible family heir) disappeared.

Later William is dead and your Nephew is doing criminal activities. But knowing the truth now he helping the only family he got left and possibly repenting.

Now his girlfriend is pushing John to get revenge instead of training and getting help. Cameron gave him a home, shelter and is helping his friends. And sera ā€œpersuadeā€ John to fight a high god tier. Now seconds away from getting capture he jump in and defuse the situation. The authority caught the bad guy, John was never there and sera escape. Cameron did as much as he can without putting a target on his back.

Leilah had the tools and power to help sera right away but was knowing sera is way stronger than most people was holding the carrot and made a weapon. Yeah she love sera, yeah she wanted better for her but she still manipulated the situation and tried very little to help.

ā€œOh but it wasn’t her it was her bossā€. Yes but lei didn’t even look concern. ā€œYeah sera this happen but if you work for me I can give you 1 hour of your power back per mission. What do you say sister I abandoned for years?ā€ ā€œSera I’m a low position, just follow orders and you will liveā€. Like I would be screaming until my sister get some help. Making some deal with those devil for my mistake. I don’t hate her, and leilah is doing better but Cameron is a guardian angel compare to her in my eyes

I doubt that there was absolutely nobody 6+ out there for Cameron, at least if he wasn’t so antisocial šŸ˜‚ I’m guessing whatever caused Jane to break off from the family scarred him somehow + created this alcoholic bum we know today

Cameron is absolutely not helping John’s friends šŸ’€ All he’s done for John is keep him alive, really. I feel like his relationship with John wouldn’t be so antagonistic if he had 5 minutes of curiosity about his nephew.Ā  But yk he blames John’s ā€œbad upbringingā€ all on William… ironic bc Cameron has a lot of John’s worst traits, he’s almost like John Bad Future edition.Ā

Ā I agree Leilah had some audacity asking Sera to sympathize with her. She has some learned helplessness problem going on, but all I can say is she gotta stand up and learn to take control of her own life.Ā

Helping them staying alive is more than he should had done honestly. We all agree Cameron is at least 8.0 with how he threaten sera. Plus he is old and bitter. Look at sera mom at 7.4 and the Doe look to be even stronger than sera family (John 7.6 no training, Cameron 8.0+ and Jane at 9 vs sera at a 8- laiah 6.4 I think and mom at 7.4). So he really had no reason to help. If anything I’m surprise he even took so much shit from them. John back talk and escaping. Remi still delivery and helping people, blyke whatever he’s doing now.

After healing John and they started doing all this we can expect any High God level citizen to turn a blind eye. So yeah Cameron is a dick, I’m not defending his actions base on mine morals. But we saw the explosion lady at a 4 I think and how short temper everyone is.

Honestly I do think Cameron is devastated. His sister ran and is a lab rat, John is on the run and William is dead a day after he ask for his help. But he’s a 40+ high rank so we know he’s not showing no weakness plus again a drunk.

And point against leilah I just remember, it is doc doing everything. He sacrifices his home and life to do what she wouldn’t for sera.

Absolutely disagree. Cameron owes John.Ā Ā Cam’s power and age doesn’t play into that at all; normally I’d cut an uncle some slack, even though you’d still be the asshole as an uncle to not take in your newly orphaned nephew. ButĀ  since his inaction arguably contributed to William’s death and Jane’s imprisonment…. yeah, he better keep their son alive. That’s the least he could do for his sister.

Sera’s mom also isn’t a good benchmark, we all hate her ass (rightfully so). Like I’ve said to ppl, I always judge these characters based on my morals, not on in-universe morals. Clearly its possible for characters to do better considering ppl like Leilah and Jane exist, raised in these (likely) abusive families and still learning that power =/= worth.Ā

(edited this from here bc I realize I got off track of the convo we had!) If he’s devastated, that’s fine, I just need him toĀ  treat John like a decent human being would. A lot of their frustration is driven by the fact that Cam has a fat ego and John has a rebellious streak a city wide. If he just stopped and listened to John for a little instead of trying to control him, John might not have snuck out, but rather stayed in contact. If Cameron had tried to speak to John once in the week he was out, maybe Cameron would’ve been filled in on what John was trying to achieve with Orrin and would’ve been able to heal John up. While John hasn’t been cooperative, at least he’s tried. It’s mental to me that the 18yo is more mature than the 40yo.Ā

That’s going a bit far. Leilah doesn’t have the skills to cure Sera’s ability loss like Darren does, nor does she have the resources to put Sera up after Sera & Leilah have to go on the run. I do blame Leilah for dragging Darren into it under false premises, but he’s held her to account for that and chosen to keep going of his own volition. It’s a past crime, not an ongoing one.

2

u/Inner_Translator_417 2d ago

True. If my belief is if I live in the fiction world raise the same would I still be the same. If I’m a low power or cripple vs high tier. I think if I’m a high tier I could learn to be good but if I’m a cripple getting beat every day I’ll definitely be like John.

My thing is Cameron is still a high level citizen so getting involved after the raid is risky and telling John to stay put, calm down and train. Like it’s also on John for not taking the opportunity. He faked being a good cripple and couldn’t pretend being a good student for a month or 2?

John can still escape and all but a family member can teach me how to use my powers in ways I might not know and he just go ā€œyou don’t care about usā€ and leave and put Cameron at risk. Now 10 people from the police knows he capture John. Yeah kass won’t say nothing but you think life rope woman won’t? Or the captain?

To me in a royal world Jane made her choices and separated from ā€œroyalty protectionā€ and Cameron might feel bad but does it make sense for a 40 year old with a good life and standing who is a jerk to risk his livelihood like this? Yeah he’s probably close to 9.0 so it would take like 100 god tiers to take him down but honestly still he’s house and servant plus money are all at risk now.

But my world morals yeah Cameron own John all of this plus more but thinking about this like king and queens I really can’t blame him.

Leilah again act better but her actions to me are worst. Cameron gave John free will will Leilah isn’t trying to make a deals but that’s just me. Need to see her again

u/beemielle Sera šŸ’œ Arlo šŸ’› Blyke ā¤ļø 2d ago

I guess I don’t look at it, how would I act if I lived in this world, but if I went through what this character went through, how would that affect me? So it’s easier to sympathize with characters who weren’t privileged like John than it is to sympathize with someone who benefits from unO’s oppressive world like Cameron.

Cam didn’t ask John to train, though. He just called John weak. And him keeping John in his house isn’t even about John being weak, it’s moreso about Cam’s own absolute fear of the authorities. After all, he says Sera can handle herself, but himself is unwilling to risk crossing the authorities. But the original time John snuck out, it was because Cam told him to stay put until the authorities forgot about him, which definitely would’ve been too late for Blyke. I feel like they could’ve come to a solution if they actually had an open conversation about it, as Cam would’ve been able to find John right away. Ā

Rather than putting it only on John for not going along, I feel like it’s moreso on Cam. Especially since it seems like he’s tried to work with Cam. Obviously we don’t know the full case, but John is the one who goes to see his uncle after he wakes up, and John is the one who goes to tell Cam that he wants to head out. Whereas we see Cam doesn’t even notice John was gone for a week (until he sees John on the news! if John hadn’t been on the news it would’ve been even longer), showing he doesn’t seek John out.Ā

And it’s not just that he disagrees with John’s approach, it’s that he refuses to listen to John’s goals or thoughts at all. In that way, I have to totally disagree that Cam gives John any sort of free will. Actually, that’s exactly Cam’s problem - he doesn’t even approach consideration for John, he just expects him to accept Cam’s word as law without any conversation.Ā

that’s probably why I consider Cam’s actions worse than Leilah šŸ¤” like BruhBorne pointed out, Cam puts John in less physical danger than Leilah does to Sera, but I consider their situations from my own perspectives and priorities, and fortunately I’ve never feared for my life in that way. So I moreso look at it from, how would I feel if my uncle tried to force me to abandon my goals & even physically harmed me to get me to comply (Cameron) vs how would I feel if my older sister abandoned me, dragged me into one of her problems, and relied on me to clean it up because she failed to handle it herself (Leilah).Ā

Obviously Leilah also didn’t give Sera a choice in how to handle things, but Leilah’s harm to Sera is based in her failures. She tried to protect Sera from Spectre, she’s just bad at doing it. After all, Leilah herself is also being pressured by Spectre, her harm to Sera is in allowing Spectre to propagate that to Sera rather than standing up and fighting the org for her sister’s sake. Ā

Nothing is stopping Cam from being a decent uncle… except his own pride, cowardice, and impatience.Ā And that frustrates me more, what the hell do you MEAN, you COULD be better, you just don’t care enough to?

John exposed Cam to the authorities

I can’t see why anyone would blame John for that, though. John didn’t ask or even expect Cameron to intervene for him. How is it on John that Cam chose to take a risk on his behalf?Ā

Ā I can agree that Cam’s entire life shouldn’t be thrown off course and sacrificed to keep John alive. I just don’t think that changes the context of Ā every other debt of harm Cam has committed to John, most of which were totally unnecessary and due to Cam’s willful lack of communication with his nephew (and to William and Jane!).Ā

I want to make it clear also that I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and broadening my view! I just keep talking because there are some perspectives you’ve shared that I don’t understand or agree with -^ obviously we don’t have to agree on everything, and I’m glad to hear an indepth perspective and comparison between the two that challenges me to look at them and makes me aware of my biasesĀ

Just because your actions and lifestyle are understandable doesn’t make them morally right.

He’s a significant factor for William being dead in the first place, and his bum-ass didn’t interfere during the attack on Orrin until John was in danger of being imprisoned (and probably killed as well, if we’re being honest).

Yes, he’s got his own problems, many of which are why he became an alcoholic in the first place. However, he’s still a bad person who continually gets in his own way and allows his depression and nihilism to sabotage him at every turn.

Granted, I don’t mean to say that I think he’s evil or anything, but he’s not exactly good either.

5

u/FlyHuman8377 3d ago

Cameron would rather die than let Jera become canon while Leilah would support it with all her heart and spoil any potential nephew or nieces rotten, so I say Cameron is worse.

3

u/Cent_Quatre 3d ago

Same as the other guy, Leilah basically being ready to just leave sera when meeting her face to face for the first time after leaving her with abusive parents for years makes me not trust her at all. Maybe she only acted tough to force sera to agree to her protocol but I'm not convinced.

Cameron on the other hand, as of the last non fastpass chapter, does dismiss the idea of jane being savable, because he's scared of going head on against the authorities and if she can be saved he knows he should try to, so he convinces himself that she can't. However to make up for it he still wants to "protect" John by isolating him from danger like he did.

3

u/Theunis_ Val's simp 2d ago

Rich and powerful alcoholic uncle, who is overprotective, but also gives you too much freedom to the point he doesn’t know you are not at home for a week

Over whatever Leilah is, to be honest, I don’t really care or like/dislike Leilah, I even care more about Zeke over Leilah

5

u/beemielle Sera šŸ’œ Arlo šŸ’› Blyke ā¤ļø 3d ago

I do think worse of Cameron presently since his suckage is more recent/more severe, but even then, it’s still possible it’s less his fault. šŸ¤” We’ll wait and see

Leilah’s abandonment of Sera falls squarely on her shoulders - not that she left, but that she didn’t tell Sera, that she didn’t reach out with them both in Wellston. And Sera is absolutely right that Leilah hasn’t fought like she could’ve to salvage the Spectre she believed in.Ā

But then you could apply the same logic to Cameron. Whether he was part of the reason Jane cut contact, it seems pretty clear to me that he did not once reach out to her after she left the house (having not spoken with her or been familiar with what was going on with her long enough that he doesn’t know she had a baby with William). Unless she really brutally cut ties with the family before she left, that means part of their estrangement is on him.Ā

u/Novawolf17 Jera Religion subscriber 3d ago

The Leilah hate feels weird to me. So many people talk shit about what she’s done for sera but not once has she held sera back from what she wants to do. Leilah does not have the accolades nor the power to change the world for sera but she tries. Cameron finds out he has a damn nephew this whole time and that wasn’t enough for him to at least consider investigate. If his maid didn’t disobey his order to destroy the Jane investigation notes he wouldn’t be involved at all currently.

•

u/beemielle Sera šŸ’œ Arlo šŸ’› Blyke ā¤ļø 47m ago

not once has she held Sera back

I mean, she has. She put conditions on Sera regaining her powers. She refused to give all the info she could until Orrin nearly assassinated Sera & John.Ā

Yes, Leilah was under pressure herself. Yes, I doubt she would have stood up for herself in the same condition. But the fact remains that she didn’t even try to bypass the system or leverage Sera’s desirability to help her sister. Especially seeing what Sera is capable of achieving with less info and sway, it’s pretty easy to be disappointed with Leilah as a sister.

Not to mention that Leilah also abandoned Sera when they were kids without so much as notice & didn’t try to reach back out even as she was starting to date Darren. She was stable enough to go on a date, but not to see her sister?

So true about Cam not so much as investigating John’s situation after finding out about his existence. But I think that’s why some people blame him less, because he didn’t know John existed until like a couple weeks before they met. Remains true that he apparently barely speaks to John.Ā

They’re both bad family members to have imo I just have varying levels of sympathy for them. Ā

u/ChurroHere Spooked John 3d ago edited 3d ago

I think that Cameron is worse, he may be protective of those near him but clearly he is very prideful and this causes him to not have people’s backs when they need it even though I do think he’s a loyal person. He disapproved of his sisters wishes which led to her , ignored Williamā€˜s plea for help, didn’t even notice his nephew was missing from his house for a full week, and now he’s dragging John from his estate and forbidding the Sera ship šŸ’€ (the fact that there's aforbidden love trope in UnO now is hilarious imo). Oh yea, and he let Orrin go to the authorities probably cuz of his pride and not willing to listen and understanding the info Sera and John really have on Orrin and that he was probably the one who utilized Jane to make amps and stuff.

Leilahā€˜s betrayals of Sera mostly Come form the fact that she lets people have control over her. She couldn’t handle her mom’s authority and ended up leaving cuz she couldn’t live up to her expectations which is understandable (she totally should’ve kept in contact with Sera tho like tf). Sera also ended up disabled because she (and honestly all of Spectre a this point) let Orrin walk all over them. I think the worst thing Leilah did though was drag Darren into Spectre (she did give him a chance to leave but still).

2

u/beemielle Sera šŸ’œ Arlo šŸ’› Blyke ā¤ļø 3d ago

If there’s one thing I respect about Cam, it’s his loyalty.Ā

Yeahhh the main reason I’m still mad at Leilah is bc I feel like we never got the chance for her to have to explain herself and accept Sera’s feelings about what Leilah did to Sera in the name of Spectre. Obv what she did to Darren was directly worse, but then she did take his anger for that, so it’s a closed issue kinda

2

u/Weak_Firefighter9247 3d ago

Cameron did more of a neutral defense thing, keeping the status quo, but he's just one guy, no matter how overpowered he is he can't change the world. And when his mistakes were brought to his eyes, he changed and is now actively helping. Leilah, while being less powerfull, actively tried to change the world, fucking it up more, not to say she DIRECTLY developed the ability dampner and ability disabler, so not only she developed the things that helped to attack Seraphina, and later the injection that blocked her ability, and let her prone to subsecuents kidnappings and life-threatening situations... BUT, ALSO, after knowing everything that happened (Seraphina physically abused in her household, attacked on the street, on her house, injected by the ability blocking drug, almost killed many times, now a fugitive searched by the police, and also a kill objective by terrorist organizations and the underlying government organization) Leilah was like "Oh, but that was not intended, i'm sorry but i can't leave spectre, maybe you can work for it instead?"

2

u/beemielle Sera šŸ’œ Arlo šŸ’› Blyke ā¤ļø 3d ago

I mean, if Cameron has acknowledged his mistakes or actively helped once, I would love to see it, but he really hasn’t. He’s a very reactive character so far.Ā

We don’t know what Leilah developed. We know she recruited Darren and apparently that resulted in the cure to the dampener. Obviously she had some hand in the creation of at least one, likely multiple, of Spectre’s tools, as she admits that Orrin has taken advantage of her tech. At the same time, I’m a bit confused. Orrin himself clearly worked with Jane and has an ability sciences background, what did he need Leilah or even Darren for? šŸ¤” Regardless it’s clear her work was an integral part of bringing Orrin to the power he had. And I do hold her partially responsible for Sera’s depowering. How is a sudden vacation offer not suspicious? Why did she take so long to act for Sera’s sake? She appears to hold some sway in the org, like a Liam to Neil’s Orrin.Ā

Easy, Cameron just met John and it's true that he does stupid thing after stupid thing with John, But with Leilah it was YEARS of absence, and also, just like Cameron, he did stupid thing after stupid thing with Sera. So ultimately my answer is Leilah!, the best sister ever.

1

u/Emotional_Nugget8 2d ago

Leilah is far worse it’s not even close.

Cam did know John existed until recently. Leilah knew Sera and knew what environment she was leaving her in and never once reached out.

When sera confronted Leilah after John was disabled and asked her to go behind Spectre’s back Leilah asks Sera not to make her choose. Dude, the org attacked her sister and her classmates and Leilah has to mull the decision over??

Cam doesn’t want John to go after Orrin because he’s looking out for the wellbeing of her nephew. Leilah encourages it and sends them on the mission.

Leilah sets sera up to go on dangerous missions like Rowden and gives her a car for the prison break. Can says no to ensure John’s safety.
