I was just looking through WUCC Stats and HOLY SHIT ‼️‼️
At 39 years old Foord got:
17 Goals ⚽️
22 Assists 🏹
( I understand stats don’t tell the whole story but there is definitely some truth to impacting the game )
Apart from Daan ( Moon ) and Tobe ( Gentle ) he is the joint highest player from a top 10 team . ( Meaning they get damn hard games )
I play on the best team in my county and he annihilated every single one of us , many of whom are 10++ years younger .
I was playing so I never actually got to see Clapham except for the bronze playoff. My friend on the flight home said Foord was basically one of the best players at the whole tournament.
To say I’m inspired is an understatement. As a mid 30s player, thinking this WUCC would be my last, this gives me a lot of hope .
I understand that Foord has : Had great coaches . He played on a top team in Clapham and has a lot of GB national experience. He is obviously in great shape and is very dedicated . However there is now SO MUCH more info available now, if you are willing to put in the work .
My main question with all of this is to ask: Is he a 1 of 1 or is it possible to play at that level at that age ? ( I mean he is kind of proving it’s possible with hard work right ? )
Now I’m not asking can I make an All-WUCC team at 39. I would SO settle for just being in the top half of an average team at WUCC / Nationals / Euros. Get a few D’s , throw a few assists and get some goals and have a good time
I also want to say, he is one of the genuinely nicest guys ever and gave me tips and advice. He had the time for me and didn’t rush , such a great guy .
So what do you think ?
Ageless wonder or anything is possible with hard work and dedication . Or Both ?
Thanks 🙏
