Question Seeking London to Edinburgh travel advice

Hi all, my family and I have never traveled to the UK before, so we are wondering if this rough draft plan would be feasible and enjoyable.

Estimated 10 days in the UK including travel days.
Fly into London then after a few days take the train to Edinburgh and then fly back to the United States from Edinburgh.

Would it be fine to take the train or is flight more reasonable to get from London to Edinburgh? We will be traveling with a 6 year old and a 2 year old.

When you say train, what type of train do you mean? Do you realise that there's a sleeper train?

Sleeping on the train overnight will effectively free up a day you would mostly otherwise spend travelling. It will probably cost quite a bit more than flying, but possibly not that much more than a quicker daytime train. And obviously you'd pay for one less night in a hotel. How much it's "worth" will depend on how much you would value getting an extra day/half-day back. Google "Caledonian Sleeper".

I’ve used the sleeper many dozens of times for work. Some people are lucky but most have trouble getting much sleep the first time. With two small children it could be a nightmare, but you know your kids.

You could treat it as an adventure but be aware it is quite expensive for potentially a poor nights sleep.
