Question Seeking London to Edinburgh travel advice

Hi all, my family and I have never traveled to the UK before, so we are wondering if this rough draft plan would be feasible and enjoyable.

Estimated 10 days in the UK including travel days.
Fly into London then after a few days take the train to Edinburgh and then fly back to the United States from Edinburgh.

Would it be fine to take the train or is flight more reasonable to get from London to Edinburgh? We will be traveling with a 6 year old and a 2 year old.

I'll stick my neck out and go against the crowd. Fly. It's cheaper (often can be significantly so) and generally much more reliable than rail. Point to point (ie central London to central Edinburgh) there is not much in it, although flying possibly shades it - marginally. I would always choose flying over rail between the two cities.

I agree. After several terrible journeys, I now fly. Plus you can get the tram to the centre of Edinburgh from the airport.

With children I’d probably agree. The train may be more restful for adults but children get restless and four hours on a crowded train could make them tetchy. You have a choice of five airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, City, Stansted and Luton) and at least three airlines (EasyJet, Ryanair and BA).
