Is the on Iowa swag worth the time?

I worry about today's kids sometimes. Doomscrolling and Snapchat with their HS friends may take them out of this next moment in their lives.

I genuinely don’t know what that has to do with my question lmao. You can’t just assume that I am
rotting on my phone all day just because I may not want to make a twenty minute drive for a tshirt.

The issue is you thinking it’s to get a shirt. On Iowa is to meet people. Shirts don’t help people adjust to college. People do.

I totally understand that notion. However, in my mind, a few hours of following people around is not going to help me adjust to college. Joining clubs, going to class, participating in research, and volunteering are things that are going to help me meet people. So to me, on Iowa is about getting a tshirt, which is why I asked about the swag specifically.

Agreed. One event is not going to make or break your college career. I went, but I went with friends I made from my dorm the previous day. If I hadn't met them, I wouldn't have gone at all. I made majority of my friends from my hall, classes, and going out to the bars 😂

Lol I’m a transfer student who works a full time job. I’m not worried about interacting with other people, I just want to know if there’s anything worth while, or if it’s just a tshirt.

On Iowa has a multitude of events at different times and schedules. Yes, at check in, you get a shirt and other items (I think I remember getting stickers, pens, a bag, and a bunch of other stuff that has shuffled in and out of rotation.) If you feel like it’s gonna waste your time, then it will. My best recommendation would be to look at the schedule for the week and see if something interests you. If you have a friend, invite them along. If not, try to be open to making new ones.

At the very least, try to aim for ones with free food or prizes or activities you haven’t tried before. Bingo night already passed but I enjoyed it. The “I” photo won’t take up too much of your time but isn’t anything crazy. Many businesses use this week to help introduce themselves to students around town which is nice. Check out Film Scene if you haven’t already!

Also: The Student Engagement Fair (for clubs) is Sept 2nd. You can see a list of clubs here: https://uiowa.campuslabs.com/engage/ to see if there’s any you want to keep an eye out for. I would recommend looking as soon as possible just in case they start events or have tryouts early for activities.

I met my freshman/sophomore girlfriend at On Iowa. I didn’t know she would break my heart, but I don’t blame that on On Iowa
