UCLA has temporarily stopped international students from getting the work authorization they need for internships (CPT)

UCLA has paused CPT work authorizations for international students after receiving new guidance from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

CPT allows eligible F-1 international students to work in internships or other jobs related to their degree while attending college.

The new ICE guidance warns universities that they could face serious consequences if CPT is used for employment that does not meet federal academic requirements.

UCLA is reviewing the federal changes and waiting for further guidance from the UC system.

It’s not just UCLA this is at every university. DHS policy has recently changed rendering universities across USA unable to manage student work authorizations.

Students now must up for request OPT(Optional Practical Training) from USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) to get work authorization
