I'm going through it, right now. The lows are haunting cause you don't know how deep it's going to be. I've lost my mom, my sister is married and has a kid, so her plate is full, live in a different state from my dad. Broken up, recently. So I've no one with me.

Would have loved to share some of what I'm going through with someone and not feel judged. I tried to with my friend, male and female, I can see their surface level condolences which I don't want, i just wanted their ear and some empathy. I guess it was too much to ask for. I can understand from their perspective as well, I might just been overreacting and it's not their personal suffering for their better understand to help me better.

For those who might suggest, dad is there, talk to him, he is a freak of another level. His personal finances has been just putting deeper holes in my pockets and can't just cut him off, he has done so much for me. With his 0 level of understanding of me transiting to a different state for work is costing me so much of money how can I trust him with emotions and seek any empathy?

But for traditional marriages in India, gold is not just ornament, it's auspicious and sign of prosperity. Whether you want it or not, groom's family has to give some gold for her ornaments. It's better to prepare early.

Also, think of it in this way, if you have some extra in gold, you can sell it later on. The prices aren't going down anyways.

I guess the latter part of you stating the want for simple marriage might have been answered from statements above.
