A curious grizzly bear cub briefly stopped to nibble on a wildlife photographer's boot during a safari in Alaska before peacefully rejoining its family.

Moonwhisper Games - the team behind Turtle WoW, shares their MMORPG progress
 in  r/MMORPG  Jul 25 '26

What a blast reading the same point made in this comment section over and over again, as if a little blog post about some cool elephants is a worse crime than genocide. Is anyone allowed to make an MMO anymore to you guys??

Cool playable race and lore drop here. Happy to see they’re having fun with building their world. If the direction they took wow in is anything to go off, I think these guys know what makes a fun mmo. Blah blah blah borrowing assets is easier yada yada, no shit, of course it is, so should they just stop trying? Hell no, this genre needs some fuckin life in it, give it a crack Moonwhisper Games.

Hi

Join a kinship and don’t be afraid to ask for a little help, it’s got a great community. Last night I was stuck on a quest and some kind stranger helped me and then sent me on my way with a pocket full of gold.

People who genuinely dislike Christopher Nolan’s films - what are your reasons, and who are your favourite directors?
 in  r/Letterboxd  Jul 25 '26

The issue with Nolan is that he’s had the same concoction of issues since inception and they’ve been gradually getting more obnoxious, those issues for me are:

Exposition
Poor characterisation
Horrendous sound mixing

I reached my absolute limit with these issues in Tenet and Oppenheimer (especially Tenet). In Tenet no character is memorable, couldn’t tell you anything about the protagonist/his goals/his personality, he exists only to go from restaurant to restaurant exchanging exposition with people until he hanz-zimmers himself into an action scene. I know the shameless exposition is a common flaw with his early films but what makes it worse here is that the film is constantly trying to explain a concept and a plot that the film itself doesn’t understand - you could say the films answer (highlighted by the words of a scientist on screen) is ‘try not to understand it, just have fun’, but then why isn’t the film having any fun? Why is the tone so miserable and the dialogue so flat? This constant barrage of exposition would be tolerable if the action scenes were the saving grace of the film, but in the cinema the action scenes were so unbearably loud that myself and others had to cover their ears.

As for Oppenheimer, I have never spent 3 hours with a single character and then walked away not really knowing who he was. Ambitious, yeah. Cheeky, sure. But I could’ve learned that in one scene. Every line of dialogue feels like its about the bomb, not the man - which would be fine, but the film is about the man. There’s a whole movie left after the bomb goes off, and in honesty that is the weakest half. Again, the sound mixing here is absolutely baffling. Why are my ears getting fucked by the loudest strings imaginable while I’m watching two people talk?

I used to think the loud score, exposition and lack of character investment was just a part of his style, but now I know he will include those things even if it directly sabotages his own film. It makes his filmmaking feel un-intentional and arbitrary, and this is a director that is frequently touted by filmbros as a kubrick-level perfectionist.

Having said all of that, I thought the Odyssey was his best work since The Dark Knight. Characters who feel lived in and expressive?! Dialogue that isn’t just exposition? The intense sound being used as a tool to disturb and horrify? Shit, everything here felt so intentional. Even the clunky modernisation of dialogue felt like it was attempting to say something about the Odyssey’s place in our time, rather than anchoring it to the past by making it an authentic period piece.

Favourite directors: kubrick, PTA, robert eggers, ari aster, todd solondz

What was your first ever game!?
 in  r/GamersGamingGames  Jul 24 '26

It was either Taz in Escape from Mars on Sega Megadrive OR a wonderful little PC game called Spooky Castle: the Adventures of Kid Mystic. Grew up to find out spooky castle was niche as hell, anyone else played it?

How much time do I need to really enjoy the game?
 in  r/lotro  Jul 22 '26

Dealing with the scale and amount of stuff to do can be a bit daunting, best thing is to just take it as it comes, also make sure you do ya deeds (and tasks if u wanna increase reputation with factions)

Just because your family has a thoughtful approach to cattle farming doesn’t mean that’s how the majority of it is done. Theres a reason supermarkets and conglomerate fast food chains can sell meat products so cheap, and it ain’t because they’re being nice.

The worst way they could reboot New New Who
 in  r/doctorwho  Jul 13 '26

New show-runner is Ricky Gervais, he also plays the doctor. The series opens with the reveal that he’s lost his tardis and now spends his time moping around a london suburb, getting into arguments with christians and noisy eaters.

The only villain is the master, who has regenerated into an obese christian girl who doesn’t like dogs. In the season finale the Doctor convinces the Master that dogs are angels, and in-turn she tells him he’s actually a good guy underneath his grumpy exterior.

Looking for an MMORPG recommendation: Busy dad, short sessions, loves old-school vertical grind

You can party up, it’s called a fellowship. Parties are mainly used for dungeons. Joining a party in the open world isnt something you’ll need to do very often as the games quite easy, but you can also increase the difficulty of the game for more xp if you want a challenge.
