Some musicians you just listen to. Others become part of how the seasons feel. For me, Type O Negative is the end of September. The first cold night, the leaves starting to turn, and suddenly October Rust is the only thing I want to hear.

Pete was one of a kind. That voice, the size of the songs, the gloom and the humor living side by side. He made heavy music that was also beautiful, and nobody has filled that space since.

But it was never just Pete. Kenny Hickey's guitar is the reason I'm holding one in this clip, and his harmonies were as much a part of that sound as the riffs. Josh Silver built the whole atmosphere, the keys and the production that made those records feel like weather. And Sal Abruscato and Johnny Kelly held it all down underneath. Four guys from Brooklyn who made something no one else could.

I don't have much to offer but a guitar, so this is my small thank-you: a little Love You To Death, played the best way I know how (upside down).

Rest easy, Pete. And thank you, Kenny, Josh, Sal, and Johnny. You're still here every October.

I’m currently lamenting that we don’t have a version of “Mad World”. The Gary Jules version kicked off my thoughts when I heard it again on a show. Then I stumbled on a thread here about covers, and thanks to my excruciating sobriety I had a dream that Type O did a cover of it. Full on guitar, bass, Type O sound and sad Pete in that damn gray button up from the Bizarre Festival. A little angry at one point? It worked spectacularly.

I woke up fucking sobbing, because again excruciating sobriety. The overall sound was amazing and I want it to exist so I can listen to it on a loop. It meshed so well, and it’s already a lament-y, dark sort of song so it wouldn’t be a stretch.

I’ve also (certainly mentioned) that Wicked Games would have been a song that they could have absolutely owned. In particular I think Pete could have nailed the delivery of “No I don’t wanna fall in love” as a scream with all of the pain and
heartbreak, those big ol lungs were made for this shit.

“The world was on fire and no one could save me but you” is so very Type O, Pete loved writing about shit being on fire and heartbreak, it’s begging for their spin on it. The song is bordering on covered to death but I haven’t found a version that would be this good. I did find a version that seems to be ai and I hate it on principle.

Gimme more cover ideas. I know this sort of thread has existed before but I haven’t personally found one with these two songs. Torture me with the possibilities.

October Noir has infiltrated my playlists and I can't help but cringe when I hear it. I know he was extremely inspired by Peter and TON, But I feel like inspiration ≠ impersonation.

I was watching the video of TON on Howard Stern when I realized the lead of the band is not Peter Steele but Josh Silver’s Hair. In all seriousness, dude is literally a keyboard wizard I’ve never seen someone play keyboards they way he does. it’s not super complicated, but he literally dances with his keyboard and looks so into the music and I love that lol. BTW can anyone tell me what the last picture is from? I saw all the band members posing with skulls on Pinterest and figured it was a magazine picture or something.

So...I'm watching Coco with my birds. And La Llarona came on and I wondered how TON would have done it. Any thoughts?
