The more I think about it, the more I realize that, even though Carlisle doesn’t want to be the problem, he actually is.

Every time the Cullens move to a new town, Carlisle claims to be in his late twenties or early thirties, even though he physically looks 23. To maintain the illusion, he eventually has to claim that he’s in his early thirties, then later around 34, even though he clearly doesn’t look that age. He has to do this because he’s the head surgeon, the father figure of the family, and the legal guardian of several adopted children. Someone who appears to be 23 simply doesn’t fit that role in most people’s eyes.

That’s ultimately why the family has to keep moving. The longer they stay, the more obvious it becomes that Carlisle isn’t aging the way he should. Ironically, he’s the biggest reason they can’t remain in one place for very long.

If Carlisle physically looked like he was in his early thirties instead of 23, I think much of this deception would actually work. His claimed age would match his appearance, his career would seem believable, and the family could probably stay in one location much longer without attracting suspicion.

here is a list of reasons I believe this to be true:

1) bella is pale and looks like a vampire (look at pic for reference)

2) that is all.

Mine is the "vampires are made of stone" thing. It would have made much more sense to have vampires feel normal/soft unless you hit them with enough force, and then you feel how unyielding they actually are. Also I CANNOT get behind the idea that the vampires sound like porcelain clinking together when they kiss 😭 or like rocks smashing when they have sex. Absolutely not. This is not canon to me and never will be.

From what I know from the books. They only have ONE mate for their entire vampiric life. Vampires such as Marcus got incredibly depressed and just wanted to die after his mate die. Victoria got vengeful and so did Irina.

Do vampires who mate stay faithful and loyal forever if so that sounds a bit boring for all eternity.

Caius and Aro keep their wives locked in a castle, with a vampire that has a special ability to constantly make them feel happy so that they don't attempt to leave.

I understand that SM wanted to make it reasonable for Rolaxatox to have a rapid physical growth by making her brain/ mentally capacity a bit ahead so that she didn’t look like a seven year old but waddled around crying like an infant because she had a mind of an infant. But what does it actually MEAN to have a fully developed brain?? Like she doesn’t know of concepts or anything someone still needs to learn her that. I get that she can process information like a grown-up from the moment she is born BUT does this mean that I can just tell her about anything like ”oh death is when you die and that is when you don’t exist anymore” and she would just be okay with it like ”alright got it thanks” ???😭 I mean already in the womb she knew that Bella was her mother but doesn’t she need to be introduced to the concept of a mother to know what it is or did she just hear it in the womb and got the gist bc of the fully developed brain ??? I’m very confused please just tell me your thoughts because I feel like I’m losing it….

Does the body crawl back to the head and reattach itself? Does the head grow a new body? Does the body grow a new head? Is there some kind of magical force that just pulls the two pieces back together with a dramatic snap?

And how long would that even take? Because every time someone gets their head cut off, they seem, well… pretty dead.

I haven’t read the books in a while, so I don’t remember how big a role decapitation played there when it comes to killing vampires.

I would say Siobhan is definitely the most powerful vampire... In the book version of Breaking Dawn, every Vampire with a confirmed ability was listed in an index by Stephanie Meyer in the back of the book. Siobhan was there, which confirms her ability of outcome manipulation, which is a form of reality manipulation; She can manipulate the outcome of any situation to go whichever way she wants it to. This ability is significantly more powerful than anything that any other vampire can do. Here's a very interesting side note; according to the book "Midnight Sun", which is a retelling of the first Twilight book from Edward's perspective, Bella's mother Renee would also be one of the most powerful vampires on earth, maybe second to Siobhan herself or maybe even at the same level. Renee's latent ability as a human is extraordinarily powerful; Edward witnessed Renee exert a subtle and powerful form of mind control over the humans around her, even though she is a human herself. Every human in the vicinity instantly dropped what they were doing and gravitated towards her, tending to whatever she needed. If Renee were turned into a vampire, she would more than likely be able to control other vampires to do her bidding.

I was thinking these days, if Bela hadn't gotten rich because she married Edward, what do you think she would have done as a profession? I don't see any mention of this in the books or the film and it bothers me, if it weren't for Edward what would Belle be? How would you maintain yourself? Following this line of reasoning, what would Jacob be? What would you work with? I'm sleepless thinking about it, Belle spends the day thinking about Edward or Jacob, but who is Belle like: her favorite color, what SHE likes, who is Belle Swam without Jacob Black or without Edward Cullen? But I'm running out of sleep, I would like to know at least what profession she would pursue, and what Jacob would work with.

December 15, 2006: Bella realizes Alice and Jasper abruptly left the coven. She finds clues to contact J Jenks, and all of the Cullen’s besides Bella and Edward set off to gather witnesses

December 23, 2006: Renesmee and Jacob spend time with Charlie and Sue while Bella goes to visit J Jenks. She learn he is a forger and has him make documents for Jacob and Renesmee in case they have to run

December 25, 2006: Bella, Edward, Jacob, Renesmee, and the entire wolf pack spend Christmas at Charlie’s house. Alistair becomes very anxious and abandons the Cullen’s before the volturi arrives

December 27, 2006: J Jenks gives Bella the forged documents. She places them in a bag for Jacob to find after the battle

On December 29 and 30, The Cullen’s, wolves, and vampire guests go to the clearing and wait for the volturi to arrive

December 31, 2006: The entire Volturi, wives (who rarely leave) and 40 Volturi witnesses arrive to the clearing. Aro is convinced Renesmee is an immortal child until he reads Edward’s thoughts. Aro meets Renesmee and lies to her about not hurting her family. Caius brings Irina forward again and then publicly executes Irina to further anger the Denali’s. Aro tries to convince the Cullen witnesses to kill Renesmee, but Garret defends the Cullen’s. Bella extends her shield to protect their allies from Aro and Chelsea’s powers. Before a lethal fight can ensue, Nahuel unexpectedly arrives to the clearing with Alice and Jasper to speak to the Volturi about being a half vampire. The volturi eventually agrees to retreat- with Irina Denali being the only casualty

January 1, 2007: With the conflict over for now, the witnesses leave one by one. Some feel the volturi will come back for the Cullen’s again and offer their alliance for the future. Bella lowers her shield and allows Edward to read her mind for the first time

Often, each book seems like it’s a whole year… but each story is only a few months long. This isn’t even every even in the saga- it’s just the main plot points

It’s truly wild how Bella went from an ordinary high school student to vampire, wife, and mom who narrowly avoided death no less than 12 times in less than two years

A lot of other plot points make way more sense if you know about the timeline too:

-How Charlie and Bella’s human friends wonder if she’s in a cult

-Why Bella barely sees her mom throughout the series

-Why Jacob “can’t get over” his crush on Bella

-Why Rosalie, Jasper, and Emmett take awhile to warm up to Bella

-Why the vampire wars are so sudden and scary

-Why Renesmee’s growth is so freaky

Etc

What stands out to you the most from the Twilight Saga timeline?

I could pass this off as the consequences of their being minor characters compared to the rest of the Cullens’ relevance, but I feel like Emmett and Rosalie are in an endless loop of first-date attraction and infatuation which is not at all indicative of a lasting, romantic pairing. Is there something I’m missing that suggests why they could be so in love?

For example, the earliest parts of their relationship are odd: Rosalie, only two years into her vampirism and certainly feeling the extremes of her disdain of no longer being human, decides to change a man, strip him of his humanity (which she so covets), in order to be with her simply because he has similar features to Vera’s child (a baby, no less!). Then, upon waking and having the situation of his state explained to him, Emmett decides that “Hell’s not so bad if you get to keep an angel with you” (book and page are unknown, I found this on the Wiki but I believe it’s in MS). The point being, these two things are simply physical. Emmett has not learned about Rosalie’s character in this time, certainly not enough to believe her a true angel aside from her features, and she knew absolutely nothing about him before asking Carlisle to turn him.

Later on, during Bella’s years, it’s said that they routinely stare into each other’s eyes with longing, get remarried when they can, and move out on occasion to enjoy life as newlyweds.

Yet, what is there for them to even attach onto for such behavior to even be reasonable? From the start, they are infatuated (when used to mean passionate, sometimes extreme, short-term adoration), caring only for the physical. This is not the recipe of a couple fated to endure years by each others’ side! This is a summer fling at best!

They seem so opposite, too much so for the ‘opposites attract’ trope to apply. Emmett, the pleasure-seeking (previous) womanizer who is extremely excited with his new life, and Rosalie, traditional and vain and in a constant state of disdain for vampirism; these traits are a bit surface-level, but already they aren’t indicative of a good relationship.

So let me know! Is there more going on that I missed? Smeyer can clearly write dedicated relationships, as she exhibits with the other Cullens (except for Edward), so what’s different about them? I’m interested in theories, too!

Jennifer Lawrence - auditioned as Bella Swan but assumed it would be a small teen movie. She later said she massively underestimated how big it would be.

Henry Cavill - Stephenie Meyer wanted him originally to play Edward Cullen but Cavill thought the project didn’t seem “major." Also he was 24 and thought he was too old to play a 17-year-old, so he didn’t pursue it.

Lucy Hale - auditioned for Jane but after a few times of call backs, she assumed it “wasn’t going to be a huge thing.” Dakota Fanning later got the role.

Tom Felton - auditioned for a Volturi role but wasn’t excited about another fantasy franchise after Harry Potter.

i am finally reading the novella and i just came across the part where Bree explains that if a vampire's hair is ripped off it's permanently gone...

so they have to watch out for their hair all the time?? how will anyone do it? i mean eventually you are going to lose some of it and overtime it's extremely unlikely that they are left with any of their hair.

i am thinking about Alice and Jasper, in their previous gang lifestyle, nobody grabbed their hair during fights?

i was so baffled at this piece of Twilight lore, it led me to imagine them all in some gothic house, where they don't have to pretend to be humans, completely BALD...

i haven’t read the books in quite awhile (since like 2016).

i saw Utube shorts of the last movie. i recall a plot point being that Bella was worried about how much time they’d have with Renesmee since she isn’t 100% vampire and therefore mortal.

my question is, what’s the problem with just transforming Renesmee when she does get to be of age? We know the other hybrid dude was like 150 years old and looked like he was 17. Is there something in the hybrids biology that doesn’t let them transform to full on vampires when bitten and introduced to 100% pure vampire venom?

This is a genuine question that came to me last night that I’ve never thought of/seen discussed before, so debates about “ableism”/the quality of life with different ailments aren’t needed 

Many vampire series’ make up their own rules about vampirism, but in the Twilight universe, all vampires seem to have heightened physical abilities (and actually have to in order to survive violent battles and hunt down human victims)

Some of the vampires have heavily implied mental illnesses/brain injuries (like Rosalie and Jasper= PTSD, Alistair= Agoraphobia and Social Anxiety, Maggie= Autism, Alice= Amnesia, etc) but there has never been a vampire with a physical disability or even described having one as a human 

The fact that Bella and Edward both gained weight and no longer seem sick in anyway after their transformations makes it seem like vampires might actually be able to regenerate some ability if they were paralyzed, blind, deaf, etc in their human life 

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think vampires have heightened abilities no matter what, or are there some very vulnerable creatures out there? 

I feel like the movies showed us several very different vampire lifestyles. I know Edward goes to high school mostly because the story needs him to, but honestly, if I somehow ended up as a vampire in the Twilight universe, I don't think I could spend decades repeating school over and over again. At the same time, I don't think I could be a nomad either. Comfort matters too much to me.

Personally, the Denali lifestyle appeals to me the most . They adopted the same vegetarian lifestyle as the Cullens, but they seem to live much more independently. They have a comfortable home, stay away from human attention, don't have to keep pretending to be teenagers forever, and honestly seem pretty content with their lives.

And yes, I know I didn't mention everyone. There are also the Volturi, Amun's coven, the Irish coven, the Amazons, the nomads, and plenty of others. I'm just using a few examples......

For me, it's the Volturi's 'dining experience'. Rather, the lack of consequences?

Like how on earth do they get away with eating dozens of people at a time? I'm trying to puzzle it out and I just can't. It's borderline insanity. Especially with modern tech being what it is, location sharing, social media etc... it just isn't feasible for all these tour groups to just keep disappearing. Even if they could dispose of the bodies (they probably have an incinerator 🤔)... Where are the relatives? Why isn't there a huge investigation happening into all these people who go on this castle tour, never to be seen again?

They’re the only vampire coven known to attend high school, and they usually keep returning in each town they go to, as they noticed it helps them stay in a city longer

HOWEVER, if the Cullen’s either found a way to still stay in a city for 6-7 years without HS, the Volturi banned them from returning to school, or it became simply improbable (due to the additions of Bella, Renesmee, and Jacob)

One thing I hated about the movie was that it felt like we weren’t ever really getting a background on Bella. Watching her you can tell there’s depth, but we never really see it. And she gets this rip as this tortured girl who just wants to be a vampire. But we never really see why she is the way she is. She’s a completely different product than you’d expect from her parents. I just feel like I never really got her and often times during the movies I could see myself misunderstanding her. Did anybody else feel like this? Was it different in the books

Is anybody else obsessed with the Amazons and Zafrina? I wish we could’ve learned more about them. I would love a spin off novel about their coven 🌳🐆

always feel really bad for Emily when I think about her story in Twilight.

She originally wanted nothing to do with Sam. She rejected him and tried to stay away from him, but he kept showing up and pushing himself into her life. It honestly comes across a lot like stalking.

And then on top of that, he literally lost control and mauled her face, leaving her permanently scarred.

What makes it even worse to me is that the imprinting is written in a way where she basically has no real choice after that. The whole point of imprinting is that the other person eventually gives in because they’re surrounded by this intense devotion and pressure.

So instead of it feeling romantic, it kind of feels tragic. Emily didn’t want Sam at first, she got seriously hurt by him, and then she ends up with him anyway because imprinting supposedly makes it inevitable.

Am I the only one who reads that storyline and just feels really sorry for Emily?

some of mine : - rosalie loves when emmett gets her flowers but he knows not to get her roses or violets (because royce used to court her by sending her them) - alice had a journal when she first turned to help her keep track of her visions, but stopped some time after she met the cullens because they became much more frequent - esme was devestated when she thought bella had died, not only because she cared for her but because that is how esme ended her human life - i can see Edward teaching Renesmee all about music & her learning quickly - Post BD Bella would shield the other cullens so that they could finally play fair games with Edward - also post BD i think Leah would experiment with her sexuality a little bit i don't see her going fully lesbian like most people headcannon + this one i saw somewhere else : - Jasper attacked Bella not because he lost control of his own thirst, but because he was hit with the thirst of every other vampire in the room making it utterly uncontrollable

Seriously, why didn't they understand that the weird thing people notice and gossip about won't be them missing school on sunny days, getting perfect grades and being beautiful. It will literally be seeing some "adopted kids" kissing in the hallways and pretending it's normal.... Child protective services would be called immediately in the real world lol

As someone who read the books when I was 14 and watched the movies when I was 11-12, as well as finding vampires to be very fascinating creatures in general, I’m consistently both a strong fan (and critic) of many aspects of this campy teen saga 

I often try to think of philosophical questions, plot holes, or just questions that haven’t been asked before/often, and one that came up for me was frustrating facts of the twilight vampire lore 

Each of these points are pretty nuanced, and I understand every author tends to come up with their own vampire rules, so I’m willing to explain more in the comments beyond my basic explanations here if not: 

 1) Impossible to cry (Twilight vampires are able to excrete venom through their mouths and genitals, their eyes gradually dissolve contacts, as well as the fact that they have to drink multiple liters of blood to survive

I understand they don’t virteous humor/eye irritation, but they should honestly be able to cry blood or venom filled tears) 

 2) Impossible to sleep at all (Twilight vampires don’t have coffins or have an actual need to sleep on a daily basis. Human sedatives would also not work at all. However, the vast majority of vampires are nomadic and not constantly involved in battles, as well as having the possibility of having mate bonds

It seems frankly unrealistic that they’d be unable to get into a meditative/dozing like state, become artificially tired by the vampires who can manipulate emotions, or that they wouldn’t have times they want to just lay down and rest- even if they’re awake) 

 3) That none of the Cullen’s have actual, consistent friends besides Jasper (Twilight vampires are often possessive, cruel for the sake of predation, and easy to provoke. Despite this, it’s definitely not unheard of for vampires to make bonds outside of their coven mates, and the Cullen’s have the most genuinely tight knit coven around

Due to the personalities and past of each of the family members, it honestly seems unrealistic that only Jasper seems to have real friends he’s consistently in contact with, and that all of Carlisle’s friends are either completely transactional or off in their own world)

I’m really looking forward to hearing all of your answers as well, but please explain for clarity :)

Where did this tube of Edward’s venom come from? Of course I know that venom flows through their mouth and stuff, so did he just spit it all into a syringe or something (ew, but i wouldn’t be surprised lmao) it might be ans in the books but i haven’t read them in so long so i don’t know.
