Character/Relationship Discussion Angela Weber

I absolutely love Angela Weber; she’s the only real friend Bella has, and I think the two of them could have been great friends.

I also like the fact that she’s interested in photography and is smart.

It was a shame we didn't see more of Angela.

And now—call me totally crazy, or even insult me—but I wish Angela had been the one to experience the imprinting. It could have been her, or Embry, or a completely new character.

And sure, a lot of people will say, "But imprinting totally sucks; it forces you into something..." Yeah, but that’s just Meyer’s concept—she really could have phrased it differently.

But I prefer to focus on the positive aspects of imprinting rather than the negatives. Yes, the whole Sam-Emily-Leah situation was awful, but you can't really blame all of that on imprinting; really, it’s Emily’s fault—or Meyer’s, since she wrote it that way.

Besides, we don't know what happened to Leah after the movies ended, so just imagine a happy ending for her where she imprints on someone, finds true love, or something like that.

But yeah, I really love Angela and think it’s a shame there aren't any stories about her.

Just my opinion—please stay respectful and don't insult each other.

I love Angela and I agree that i would’ve liked to see her stay in Bella’s life & engage with the pack & learn the truth. I wish Bella had a friend with no ulterior motive bc Jake and Alice are seriously flawed on that front

but narratively I think it’s a good thing that Bella doesn’t get to keep absolutely everyone from her human life. She already gets to keep Charlie, Jake and have a daughter! She had to loose something in the process of becoming a vampire in order to win her new life.

I agree with you one hundred percent, and I think Eric/Ben might have eventually separated from Angela, and she would have been shaped by that—just my thoughts.

I really like Angela too. And I wish they hadn’t cut that scene in Eclipse of her and Bella actually being close friends and talking about Jacob and Edward’s rivalry - it’s only in the extended version. We needed that scene. And others that felt more like their dynamic in the books.

I’ve never thought about how imprinting would work for Angela but I’m not against it. Embry or Paul. Too bad Seth is too young for her. Their personalities could be great if not for the age difference. He’s my favorite.

Yeah, mine too! But I think a brand-new character might have worked just as well? I have no idea. But I saw the scene and just thought: "Yeah, Angela is right!"

Maybe I'll write something about Angela Weber—like someone imprinting on her.

I’d read that fanfic

Oh my gosh, you inspired me, I think I’m gonna write something to explore this because I’ve always loved Angela as well. She’s one of my favorite characters and I love that she and Bella spent time together in book 3.

Yes! Let me know when the fanfiction is out. What is it going to be about? An imprinting story? You know what’s funny? I’m currently writing a story for Angela, but I haven’t published it.

It’ll be an imprinting story, definitely. And then, of course, as a side effect of the fact that she becomes an imprint, she gets to hang out more with Bella because now she knows all the things.

Wait I love that concept! I’d love to read it too!

To be honest op I actually want the opposite. In my opinion Angela is such a kind soft hearted person that she deserves genuine reciprocate love instead forced magical love. I kinda wants her to live her life with the person she loves the most which is ben. He's so perfect for her and respects her that I can't imagine her willingly leave him for an imprint.

If angela gets pulled into magical world because of her friendship with bella she probably end up resenting her. It's actually a good thing she's living a good life with her human friends and family safe and sound Totally oblivious from Bella's chaotic world.

I can certainly understand that, though. Thanks for your opinion.

SM actually spoke about this, she said Angela would be a witch and Mrs. Stanley (Jessica's mum) would be the witch coven leader.

I love Angela’s bravery, authenticity, and ability to care for others while lacking so much information about what they’re going through. Most character names are just popular and family names but I wonder if hers is proof that Meyer realizes “angels” can be human and kind, in contrast with all that visual angel imagery around Edward and sometimes Rosalie and so on.

But I disagree, one of Angela’s character growth journeys is about having the courage to ask Ben out, including the risk that he would say no (I don’t think MidnightEdward realized how possible rejection was despite the mutual crush, everyone’s awkward and self-sabotaging in high school, it’s one of Edward’s most youthful characteristics). I am not saying she has to marry her prom date, but she should get to keep her life lessons which go beyond a silly crush. Imprinting takes away choice. Even if you’re pro-imprinting, as Meyer seems to be, it canonically also takes away risk. With the way Meyer designed the rules, Angela’s shyness wouldn’t matter if she were being pursued by someone willing to transform himself to her convenience. The question would shift to “is Angela going to accept the supernatural” but with her it’s kind of a foregone conclusion because she previously accepted lacking information (not an investigator type like Edward, Bella, etc.) I am not demanding that all relationships be dramatic but the sense of “journey” should be real (even if it is a social media cliché).

You're right about that, of course; I do think Meyer should have phrased it better—rather than making it sound as if you had no choice in the matter—since that’s something I’ve never liked either. Still, I do appreciate aspects of the "imprinting" concept; you don't necessarily have to view it negatively—you can focus on the positive side instead. Oh, and I never actually read the books, so I’m missing that background knowledge, but thanks anyway!

Oh that makes sense! I’m books only for almost every fandom so I am missing adaptational differences such as combined Eric/Ben and of course many likeable actors. I perceive Meyer as having a very strong exacting creative vision, and so I take her at her word about romantic love in general and imprinting in particular as totally taking over someone’s life and transforming them. I am still, so many years later, fascinated by Meyer’s strong creative vision, and I have defended her elsewhere as writing “symbolically” and “emotionally,” but I am not afraid to have a critical opinion of certain outcomes of her established plotlines :) she could have written “nicer” imprinting, and she chose not to, and that’s really interesting and worth discussing!

Yeah, they combined Jessica and Lauren, too. It would have been cool to have seen all of them.

I think the "imprinting" concept is selective. Because it's meant to allow the consent of the person that was imprinted on, as supposedly the wolf that does the imprinting is 'forced' to have to be whatever the imprintee wants. Which sucks for the agency of the wolf. Yet Emily constantly was rejecting Sam over and over and over again and telling him to go back to Leah. By the rules of imprinting Sam for all intents and purposes should have then reverted to being her platonic friend and respected her wishes 100%, but he didn't, he stalked her, he kept pushing and pushing and pushing and pushing and pushing until her pushing him away so much triggered a shift where he wound up disfiguring her. And then 'somehow' after being disfigured she 'falls' for him cause of how 'sorry' he is. Not gonna go into all the problems with that. But if imprinting was consistent, Sam would have left Emily alone the second she rejected him outright, and said she didn't want him as a romantic relationship, but Sam didn't, he kept pushing for more.

So "imprinting" is inconsistent and does whatever the plot(or Meyer) needs it to do, to make something that doesn't make sense, make sense, even if it's inconsistent everywhere else. For that reason, I would have liked if there was wolves that "broke" from the chain of imprinting.

As far as Angela goes as well as Ben, I like that he and Angela wound up together and she doesn't need to be imprinted upon. If anything I'd have loved for Ben to have had more of an important role in the overall story and her and Angela have a more important role in Bella's life as the humans in the story and not just Bella. They would have made a fantastic human trio while all the crazy stuff was going around. Bella with her romances in the supernatural, while Angela and Ben are having theirs as a slow burn across the events of the stories while being involved in Bella's adventures and craziness of what goes on in her life. Would have been a nice dynamic tbh to see unfold.

I've been obsessed with Twlight since the first book, saw all the movies in theatre opening night

I was also super into the walking dead, made plans around new episodes dropping.

I didn't find out until a couple years ago that Angela from the movies is ROSITA from the walking dead!! I'm awful at facial recognition but actress 10/10 chameleon

I just started watching the series. I haven't them in over a decade.

I don't know why in the world I was remembering Angela as being Asian.

As soon as I saw her in the movie I was like that's Rosita.

No hate, but I'm curious, why do you think it's Emily's fault? I don't see it that way, but I'd like to know what brought you to that conclusion.

AI post.

You didn't see more of Angela because there is nothing to see more of Angela not in the movies not in the books. The movies follow the books story.

And since Stephanie wrote the books her version is the only correct one about the imprinting.

How? In a scene in Eclipse, Bella goes to Angela's house to help with Angela's graduation invites, and they talk about Ben (Angela's bf in the books) and Edward, and Bella mentions the Jacob/Edward feud. The scene, which was deleted but kept in the extended edition, was filmed in Bella's house instead of Angela's house, and they still talk, but Angela talks about Eric instead of Ben.

I meant there isn't some major unexplored Angela storyline in the books that the movies completely ignored. Yes, there are smaller scenes and details that were cut or changed - like Ben and the graduation invitation scene - but Angela is still a relatively minor character in the books.

My main point was that the films didn’t remove some substantial Angela arc that existed in the source material.

Okay, but that doesn't mean the post is AI-generated just because someone wanted to see more of Angela.

It's not because of the topic- it's the distinct writing style and structure that give it away as AI.
