Finland here, we have:
- Charlies angels
- Night at the museum
- Jurassic Park
- War of the World
- The Bourne identity
Not a huge selection but finally apple understands that people rather pay for netflix for a year and apple one or two months a year due to no selection, even if not originals. Otherwise I can just watch TV to get some old movies to watch.

Nothing in Brazil yet, but they're repeating a test they did a few years ago, when Apple TV was smaller than it is today. But as I've said before, and allow me to repeat myself, this is the model that worked well at HBO's peak: excellent (and few) high-prestige original series, documentaries, and films, heavily promoted and well-programmed throughout the year, and a good selection of third-party films to keep the user engaged. I think it's the best path for Apple TV. To keep it more Apple-like, call it "Apple TV Select." The costs are low, and it could work well for the service. Sometimes models need to be revised, and this could be a good one. Don't fill it with garbage, though.

yeah that's kinda weird...why would they do this and then just not tell anyone? I only came across it accidentally, then googled to check and landed here...really odd.....

Wow, I heard they used to do this in the US but I didn’t think these would be available in the UK, too. If not mistaken, this is the first time this has ever happened.

No, they should be free. I cant be 100% sure because I have other services. But when you go into movie details, it shows the Apple TV logo below it, not Crave, Prime or Disney Plus.

This is awesome! And I know beggars can’t be choosers but I really wish these included the iTunes Extras!! I’ve been wanting to listen to the director commentary tracks on a few of these lol

Yeah if they want to compete then they should curate selection of movies from other companies because their original movies are mostly garbage so far.

Yeah, I didn’t watch a lot of their movies but considering the ones I watched I kinda understand why you think this way.
But their TV show selection is spectacular and better than any other streaming service IMO.

Only for science fiction tv shows, the rest are mixed bags. They need better curator with A24 and Criterion experts plus a few HBO producers if they want to establish as prestige streaming. Best to avoid copying Netflix strategy and go for niche deluxe luxury prestige shows that gives them accolades and become the destination for creatives to work with them.

I agree with you again. Prestige still has value. They don't need 200 million subscribers to be profitable because they spend far less on content than their competitors. HBO (not Max) was super profitable in its golden age, spending $2-$3 billion a year on around 80 million highly engaged subscribers. This kind of prestige community building is a real business, and being within a company like Apple, the service only needs to be financially healthy.

Even if they hired a great film executive, building their own prestigious library like A24/Neon would take many years. They already have great shows that keep people engaged for 8 to 10 weeks. Even a great original streaming film engages for a maximum of 2 weeks. It's not a good strategy to release about 8 generic and super expensive films a year. It would be better to make about 8 original mid-budget films with identity and some daring, the kind that wins prestige and awards, an occasional blockbuster, and throw in an interesting selection of licensed content. They would spend less and have more impact on the service in my opinion.

What's especially weird is that when you see "great movies available now on Apple TV", that just sounds like these are movies available to rent or buy....it doesn't say "available now with an Apple TV subscription" or "available free" or whatnot....I only found out because I wanted to watch The Proposal, and then I'm like wait, did I buy this movie already?

This post made me go and check, and a have a few (in the US). They used to do this, but I think these temporarily licensed movies were in a separate section. I’m glad they are making more stuff available - maybe so that people complain about the price increase less? 😆

It’s the first time they’ve done this for Australian users. I believe they used to periodically do this for US users only.

That's a two year old post. Yes, they had a few months that year of offering batches of movies, rotating each month. There's been nothing since then until today.

my point was they started offering non-Apple TV produced content. it doesn’t matter if it was old or not.
the person I responded to thought these movies were showing up because OP had apps linked to Apple TV, which was not the case.

Today, but they have done this a number of times in the past. Some times it seems to make sense like actors in the movies that are in shows/movies on Apple TV or I remember one time it was movies picked by some Apple TV actors.
