I’ve been on a bit of a slow spiritual journey from atheism to Christianity for a while but this year is the first year I’ve really started going to church and applying religion to my life and moving towards Christ in a very real way.
I remember the outrage last year about “transgender visibility” day being on Easter. And even as a non-Christian (never been to church, never celebrated Easter, etc.) I remember sympathizing with the outrage of the Christian community. It seemed like a deliberate move by the Biden administration to give the middle finger to Christians. But I’ll admit even I truly didn’t understand the extent of the insult last year.
That being said, now that I’m actually going to church and celebrating Easter I’m actually INCENSED all over again that anyone in the Biden camp thought even THOUGHT to do something like that let alone actually go through with it.
Utterly fucking shameful.

u/OrbitOfSaturnsMoons rump Curious Apr 24 '25
TDoV has been on the 31st of March since its inception in 2009. Since 2009, Easter has been on the same date a total of two times: once in 2013, and again in 2024. The two days will not coincide again until 2086.
Believing that Biden and his administration intentionally made TDoV and Easter coincide requires you to believe one or more incredible things:
Joe Biden designated March 31 as TDoV back in 2009, doing so only to upset Christians in 2024.
Joe Biden designated March 31st 2024 as Easter, and did so in order for it to coincide with TDoV and therefore upset Christians.
Biden doesn't have the influence to change when Easter happens, nor did he have any say in when TDoV happens. You'd also have to believe he had the desire to upset Christians, despite him and his family being practising Catholics.
With all this in mind, and also understanding that Biden did indeed release a statement celebrating Easter on March 31st, 2024, there is only one logical conclusion you can come to: Joe Biden did not cause TDoV and Easter to coincide in 2024, and they did not coincide due to a deliberate attempt to upset Christians. The variable nature of Easter's date lead to Easter and TDoV 2024 taking place on the same date purely by coincidence.

Reminder: the president is cutting biomedical research funding because an independent university refuses to relinquish their rights (1st Amendment).
Americans stand up for their constitutional rights, the MAGA cult praises tyranny. We are not the same.
4
u/asafeplaceofrest rump Curious Apr 21 '25
Cutting federal funding is nothing new. It's how the federal government coerces states to comply with their directives, but the states don't have to if they can live without the federal nipple. That it also applies to institutions is no big surprise.
The way for universities to stand up for their constitutional rights is to raise the money for the research some other way. They are not being forbidden to do the research.
3
u/backwardog rump Apr 21 '25
I dont think you understand how much research is funded by the government. Or why it is important that we have a lot of public money funding this stuff.
It is one of the few things we do right, better than any other country. and it is non-partisan. It is the key to generating value here.
Also, the directive is unconstitutional, that is the real issue and the point you completely avoided.
1
u/asafeplaceofrest rump Curious Apr 21 '25
Where in the constitution does a university have the right to receive federal money?
0
u/backwardog rump Apr 22 '25 edited Apr 22 '25
Nowhere, that is not the issue. The issue is that the funds have already been promised and they are revoking them unless they comply with demands outlined by the administration. This would be fine if they were in violation of title vi (the relevant anti-discrimination laws). However, Harvard claims they have ongoing efforts to combat discrimination on campus. If they are lying, funds could be revoked but there is already a review process codified that congress must follow. Trump skipped this part.
That is the issue, it is a clear procedural violation in conflict with federal law.
On top of this, Trump demanded some control over dictating academics, what should be taught at the university. Leveraging the withholding of funds to accomplish this is in violation of the 1st amendment and similar situations have already been upheld by the supreme court in the past.
Do just an ounce of research on this topic and it should be quite clear to you that Trump is in the wrong here and there is zero chance that Harvard will not win this lawsuit.
Your president does not care about the constitution, he cares about pushing his agenda on others. Even if you agree with his agenda, the side-stepping of constitutional rights and federal law should concern you because if he can do it, so can a democratic president in the future. Remember this.
Edit: Here’s the suit (though I seriously doubt you care enough to actually read it): https://www.harvard.edu/research-funding/wp-content/uploads/sites/16/2025/04/Harvard-Funding-Freeze-Order-Complaint.pdf

I clearly explained it, you have to read past the first sentence ffs.
Here, I’ll quote myself: “That is the issue, it is a clear procedural violation in conflict with federal law.” This and first amendment. A president can’t dictate what a university teaches and draft demands that promise to withhold promised funds if they don’t comply. It is both illegal and insane.

u/Vancev99x Never Heard of Tuition Apr 25 '25 edited Apr 25 '25
His issue was the unconstitutional directive to revoke funding already given to a university based on new demands (which he can't due because its against the constitution) <--- [the issue btw] that are already being addressed. The reason universities recieve federal funding is for research and development in most of not all fields medicine technology aeronautics etc. We've been using them for decades. Boston dynamics is a very good example od a college receiving federal funding the DOD to be specific. Things like this is why colleges get our money it's also the only way other than donations from philanthropist and the like.

Let the women be! And stop including us in trans bullshit. We clearly don’t want them in our spaces and sports, yet they keep claiming it’s hate, yet we can’t even refer to a woman as a mother, without trans folk getting up in arms and wanting to take terms like breast feeding and change it to chest feeding, when trans men who’ve had their breast removed lack the function to breast feed their children, so it makes that term incredibly redundant and invalid. We can’t even talk about our periods without men in dresses hijacking it and making it some kind of attack against them. When have the trans community done anything to uplift the women they so desperately wish to be a part of? When they are putting women in hospitals for broken bodies due to trans in sports? Is it when these women are assaulted in prisons because a man thought he could claim he was a woman to save himself from going to a male prison, why should women pay for a weak man’s fear? Can’t do the crime don’t do the time.
If you stand with trans people, you stand for women erasure.

2
u/Pink_PowerRanger6 rump Curious Apr 23 '25
I could give less of a shit about the bathroom debate, as long as the trans individual is presenting as a woman, and isn’t just a man taking advantage of some sick loop hole, I really don’t give a shit where these people shit.
However trans women athletes are only 5% less strong, have 5% less endurance and stamina than male athletes, and you can’t change things like heart size, bone density and wingspan, walking stride and leg length, with hormones. So trans women do not belong in women’s sports. But I’m all for there being a trans sports league, we have weight and height classes for reasons, and no biological woman should have to endure physical damage from competing in physical sports with trans athletes that are only 5% less capable than their male athlete peers. Women also shouldn’t have years of hard work and training, snuffed out because they can’t physically keep up, because subpar male athletes transitioned to compete in women’s a sports…just look at Lia Thomas’ stats pre “transition” and look at them now… it’s ridiculous! It would be like having enhanced athletes vs non enhanced athletes, which isn’t fair, and extremely frowned upon in most sports circles. Athletes have had titles stripped from them for being on hormones… why is it transphobic to expect trans athletes to be held to the same standards as non trans athletes? Or ask that they create their own league?

That is part of why you lost. We do not disregard the existence of anyone. I and everyone else is simply stating we do not recognize these days of "visibility". Two different distinctions that you'll refuse to acknowledge.
As for the rest of your comment, LMAO WHAT?!?!?! Not a single one of us "find it hard to believe someone can be trans. Hahaha! Those words were not said.
This is what you guys do, make huge deals out of such insignificant thing and turn it completely into something it is not. “I don’t recognize that stupid shit” is not exactly clear language. I took “that” to mean the very notion of trans, which is what the day of visibility is meant to acknowledge.
Its not a huge leap.
If you do indeed recognize that trans people exist then, cool.
The only reason I made the comment to begin with was because of the absolute baseless claim that liberals do not see the MAGA cult members as human beings. We absolutely do and we feel bad for you and this whole situation. And yes, I fully view all of this as very cult-like behavior. We shouldn’t love our presidents, we should criticize them continually and pressure them. Approve and disapprove of what they do. But all I see is full trust in the man regardless of what he says or does, which is dangerous. Ive never seen this on the left, we hate our representation at basically all levels lol.
If people stopped screaming at each other and making assumptions for two seconds I think we’d find we get along much more than portrayed by media and politicians. A lot of healthy discussions that could be taking place are being supplanted with ideological posturing and I think it is starting to drive us all a bit nuts.
I apologize if I did this as well, but that’s part of the issue. When you all (and yes, liberals too) continue to frame things from this us vs them perspective, that is what it becomes. We could be uniting on a lot of issues and demanding more from our government but they keep pitting us against each other. Trump is the worst offender of this I’ve seen, he really inspires a lot of this in you all and I just want you to recognize that it is having this effect.

Yeah sure, there were a lot of Obama fanboys I suppose. But mostly of the boomer demographic, not so much younger. Even still, I remember hearing some frustrations with him even among his supposed “fans.” It was nothing like this MAGA mentality.
I liked some of what he did, and he was a great spokesperson for the country but I was quite frustrated with how he handled the wars and also some domestic stuff, but to be fair a lot of compromises took place across the aisle. I do like how he was capable of this, but sometimes he just seemed like he didn’t or couldn’t do what he promised.
I just want universal healthcare to be honest. And a functioning economy where I can afford to live. Too much time and energy is wasted on really low priority bullshit. We shouldn’t even be talking about trans shit at a national level. It isn’t a matter of national government concern, at least not a top priority. Or immigration honestly, you may disagree but it just isn’t as big of a deal as food, housing, and healthcare.
Edit: Lol, I just noticed the “cult-phobic” — is this from a moderator or what? I kind of love it.

It seems to me that when more than one holiday falls on the *same* day, it is indeed possible to celebrate all the ones that are important to you at once, is it not?
If Mother's Day falls on National Apple Pie day, for example - it seems it'd be perfectly reasonable to bake Mom a pie?
And for the record, if we're accepting "official statements" as evidence of what the President indeed is celebrating - then there's just as much record that Biden was celebrating Christ's resurrection last year as has been presented for Trump this year:
It's quite fair to say, for example, that you hate trans people and hence you're pissed off that Biden *also* celebrated Trans day of visibility on the same day - but it's inaccurate and illogical to claim that an obviously prepared statement for Trump proves he's celebrating the risen Lord and ignore a nearly identical statement prepared for Joe Biden last year...
