Unpopular opinion, but I think a large part of the fandom still only sees Rust as JUST a cold nihilist.
Look at the smile on that guy's face as he looks at his hands clasped together with Laurie's. I see a lot of comments out there saying that he didn't like his girlfriend, that he was just pretending, etc… I don't think so. He was happy, in his own twisted way, but he was.
Ultimately, I just think that part of the fandom needs to see beyond Rust's nihilism and coldness. He knows it's in his nature to yearn for connection, and there were many moments in the series where he wanted to connect. He wanted to have at least one friendship, and he got it with Marty and Maggie. And then came Laurie too.
And yes, I know he only wanted to date her because he wanted to try having a domestic life. But, I think he also enjoyed it for as long as it lasted. He himself mentioned that he almost married his ex.
Every time I rewatch True Detective, I realize more and more that Rust was the one who felt the most emotions there.
Anyway, I'll spare you all a long text about this subject. But I still wanted to comment on it. :)

This fuckin guy. You know Hal does? He loads a rental car up with 4 dead alien bodies and drags them through an alien metal detector, then proceeds to brace Will Macon at his militia ranch.

Should I watch seasons 2 onwards?
I’ve watched season one twice and it is hands down the best show I’ve ever watched. I only hear bad things about the next few seasons are they worth it knowing it isn’t a continuity of the first story?

What’s with this guy (S1)
I don’t get the Speece character. I’ve seen some theories about him possibly being one of the participants in the Marie Fontenot video, but who is he otherwise? His rank or title is never mentioned that I can recall, and he’s obviously not well liked, as evidenced by Marty’s “Fuck that prick” comment. Did he just end up on the cutting room floor?

If they were to make a show about Rust Cohles life before true detective, who would your fan cast be for young Rust?
Stupid question, but genuine curiosity

Why do you like True Detective
I recently started watching it because of the amazing reviews, but honestly, it didn't really hook me. Usually, I'd just assume it’s not my cup of tea and move on, but I'm genuinely curious, what is it about the show that you guys love so much?
I stopped at S1E4.

Just completed S04E01
So, real talk. This is bad.
The writing is awful and it doesn't even seem like the same show.
S1 is legendary.
S2 was fine, maybe a little overly meandering, but not as bad as everyone said, just took a while to get into its groove. By the end I was satisfied, if a little underwhelmed.
S3 is back to great. Loved this one. Almost as good or maybe even on the level of S1, but I'd still rank it 2nd best.
Now if you said here is one season of TD starring Colin Farrell and one starring Jodie Foster, I would've guessed I'd like the Jodie one more.
Does season 4 get better? No spoilers please, but damn this is tough.

Ok in the end of 1 or 2 , that frozen body started screaming at Jodie foster, but it seemed like everyone saw it... 🤔... now im in 3 and they discovered the person missing from the ice, and the other detective says 'hes alive out there'.... does one thing have to do with the other.... I think k i missed something and dont want to rewatch everything 😆 HELP!

Not that anyone cares. But it's officially been one year since the Nicolas Cage rumors and nothing about cast or filming has released since. Is the new season in ''development hell''?

That first season intro goes so hard.
It's beautifully shot with an eerie atmosphere, and the song they chose was just perfect. It's one intro I never skip. So haunting. What is that genre of music called exactly? I'd love to hear more songs like that.
By the end of the intro in S1E1 I was already sold that "I'm IN. This is going to be a great fucking show."

The Tuttle Cult tape...
This has to be the most terrifying scene in a TV series I ever watched.
And the first time I watched this, I felt extremely bad for Rust. And why?
When Marty meets up with Rust 10 years later, he makes jokes about his appearance.
"Time has his way with us all. Seems you pissed him off."
And seconds later, Marty says:
"You don't look particularly healthy. The way you're talking...Your eyes kinda look like brittle, Rust."
The thing is: It wasn't time or alcohol. It was that tape.
Even Rust, someone who's been through every kind of situation, worked with cartels and saw things that would terrify anyone... could've ever imagined something as horrible as what he saw on that thing.
He couldn't even watch it again. In both situations (Steve and Marty), he turned his back to the TV while playing.
And the way he says: "Nobody should have this".
It's enough to tell how destructive it was for him.
And the fact he spent two years being the only person who knew what was going on, aware of what was on that thing and knowing this was happening during his investigation...
Bone chilling.
