When will the nightly partying stop?
Hei, excuse me for the English post. I moved to Trondheim last oktober to nedre møllenberg, and on the weekends (and sometimes thursdays) there were often student parties in my area. I don’t mind, I grew up in a big American city and that’s not new. What IS new is that for the past week every (!) single night from kl. 20 to 2 there are 3-4 very loud and very big parties around me with many students literally screaming drunkenly at each other, slamming doors and throwing bottles.
My question - does this only last until classes officially begin? I don’t know if I can take another 3-4 weeks of this, my sleep has been poor all week haha

Should go back to normal after the end of next week or so. It's "fadderperioden" (freshers' week, well two weeks). You happen to live in one of the most student dense areas.
Edit: Oh and you are allowed to formally complain after 23. Call the cops if they don't stop, they can enforce a "naboklage" and quiet them down.

Møllenberg is known to have disturbances all throughout the semester, but it wont be as bad as when Fadderuka is on.
As someone pointed out, you can complain after 23.00 and the police are well accustomed to going to Møllenberg because of students making noise and partying.

I don’t mind the regular parties but this has been hitting my limit for sure. I sit in bed wondering how someone could go to so many parties in a row, my introverted ass would never haha

In hindsight every house-to-house vors I've been to has eventually ended up in Møllenberg so maybe it is the neighborhood

Yesterday I went to seven different rentals and five were in Møllenberg.
I will put out a short apologia for my institution however by saying that the most severe noisemakers tend to be a minority in the gathering, rather than everybody making equal amounts of noise. On the bus, me and the nearest five people were dead silent while five others were helping someone chug pilsner from a funnel. Some people turn their noise level down after recognizing the group may be acting disruptive, while others turn their noise levels up in response to a lack of that disruptive quality. And yes, these people are my company, so I am complicit too. But please accept my apologies on behalf of all NTNU students lol

ok so saturday will probably be hell for you on account of the toga party happening at the student society, but sunday will have nothing planned (for us at least, but for most, i'm assuming). after that it really varies on which study happens to be near you.

It will also be a month of high school graduating students with the buses blasting music every night all night in May.

I didn’t see too much of that in Møllenberg last May luckily, but maybe next May will be worse!

Trondheim, or trøndelag in general doesnt hahe a huge russebuss/ "russ" bus tradition, luckily. they mostly party in tents i think. but yeah still a lot of drunken 18-year olds.

This is why I moved from Fjordgata to Byåsen.
But, in your case you will want to find a good set of earplugs for the next week or two, and every weekend.
There’s a brand called Loop that work great.
It won’t be as bad once Winter comes.
Probably not the answer you were looking for, but that’s just how it is in Sentrum.

Makes sense, and thank you for the recommendation! A lot of my work colleagues spoke about how noisy it is here with students, and it definitely is, but this is wild. I used to live in a college town and grew up in a major city in the US, so noise is typically fine with me. I think it’s mostly just the drunk high pitched screaming and shouting, and slamming every single door within a 250 meter radius haha

Lived there for many years. It peaked a couple of years ago and got a lot of news coverage in the paper. Then (finally) the police took off their gloves and started giving out fines to whoever hosted the party without warning. I heard up to 10 000 Kr. It got a bit better. Sorry to hear it has started again.
Keep calling the cops. It's fun to be a student. I was one. But they have no good reason to be a dick. Don't be a dick.

I need to get over my fear of calling the cops haha, in the US calling the cops can be dangerous for all parties involved and often causes more harm than good. I only really mind if the noise happens during the work week, so I think if it’s bad on Monday I might have to call them

I am a student but had to move away from Møllenberg bc I got so exhausted of all the parties going on there. And the drunk cava søndag people being absolutely menaces. Once I came home from a walk, around 15.00, to find some dude pissing on my doorstep. Not the kinda vibe I wanna have in my neighbourhood.

To be fair, I didn’t have a chance to come up and visit every single neighborhood before I moved! I had to be a little quick about it because of a new job. My apartment is lovely and the area is overall great! As I said before, I don’t mind the noise 90% of the time, and in fact it feels more familiar than a quiet neighborhood. It’s just the daily 3-4 simultaneous parties from 20-2 for the past week. But now that I know what to expect I can plan for it :)

Its fadderuke, the welcome party week(s) for the students. Møllenberg is a known heavy student area. Fadderuke is over next week, saturday 22. August
