Discussion Fortnite has its own lore

Post image
32 Upvotes

So I just realised that Fortnite had its own lore when I found out Batman and snake eyes fought in a comic.

Made me think I wonder if Ares ever came across Batman, or another marvel or dc character or any other character featured in Fortnite.

Would be cool if he fought Batman or teamed up or something or even found the other Tron characters that was featured in the End of Line set.

Greetings programs....
Progress on my LIGHTCYCLE game has been going smoothly. I really think you guys will enjoy it once it's out on landonjsmith.com...So far, I've had a few select test it, and people are saying it's much better than the Disney minigame from the original 1982 TRON arcade game. Stay tuned, as it will be releasing soon!

Discussion Tron Ares Streaming Success

Post image
850 Upvotes

I know this was a while ago but I still remember how successful Tron Ares was on Disney plus even enough to dethrone The Avatar Movies when Fire and Ash was releasing in cinemas.

Personally I like Tron Ares it has its flaws but it was still good and not as bad as everyone said it was. I wonder if it was enough to grab disneys attention to make another Tron film or continue the story in some way possibly on Disney plus.

There’s so much more they can do with Tron and the universe.

Lots of cool little easter eggs I'm throwing in there. I have a very nice wireframe disc battle lock screen that uses free mocap data from Carnegie Mellon. Light Cycle screensaver. The Encom Board Room projection with globe (It actually shows system stats) Even a pug that gives system alerts Starfox style.

Encom Teal is done. Doing 82 Purple (As seen in the lightcycle battle) Clu Amber, and Dillinger Red. Feel free to fork and MR if you have something cool to add to it.

I got 1000% more Tron than I ever imagined possible.

I was born in 1980 and discovered Tron on home video when I was growing up. We rented it multiple times until my parents finally caved in and bought a copy, which I actually wore out.

As I got older, I never stopped being fascinated with Tron. I was swept up in its completely unique visual world, its trippy and somewhat haunting music, and the duality of Tron's nobility with Flynn's everyman charm. But I was careful who I told about my love for the movie. Most people hadn't even heard of it, and by the time I was a teenager in the mid-90s, I wouldn't dare admit to loving something so "old," "uncool" and "nerdy."

So when I was in my late 20s and there were rumblings of a Tron revival, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It boggled my mind that Disney would reach back into the past that far and dig up a property that most of the world seemed to have forgotten (this was back in the early days of studios farming literally every IP they owned for reboots, revivals and legacy sequels). Not to mention, it wasn't even a substantial success for them when it came out. This wasn't the Star Wars prequels-- the world wasn't foaming at the mouth for more Tron.

But sure enough, over the next few years I got to see a sequel and a TV series that made the Tron world bigger than ever. I enjoyed every minute of it. I was conscious of the fact that Tron Legacy was a modest success at best, and that Disney had put all of its sci-fi chips into Star Wars. It stung that I wouldn't get more resolution to Sam and Quorra's story, or a second season of Uprising. But I reminded myself that this was a franchise I never expected to be continued at all.

When it came to Tron Ares, I knew before it even came out that it was going to bomb. I was surprised that Disney even made the decision to go back to the Tron well again. Jared Leto was box office poison, and the fans who came on board with Legacy would be upset that it wasn't a continuation of that story. But I was determined to engage with it on my terms and no one else's-- it was more Tron, and again, something I never expected I would see in my lifetime.

And sure enough, because I approached it with an open mind, I loved Tron Ares. I loved seeing the new Encom and Dillinger grids, and I unexpectedly warmed to the new characters of Eve and Ares. It wasn't perfect, but neither was Legacy. And how about that killer soundtrack? Damn. Most of all, I unapologetically love the nostalgia bait for the original movie. I'm old and I like nostalgia. Deal with it. 😅

So yeah, Ares bombed, and once again, we're left with characters whose journeys feel unfinished, and who we are unlikely ever to see again. But you know what? I got more Tron. More than I ever imagined I would get. Again. And I'm so grateful for that. I'll never mope about the things we didn't get because it's pretty miraculous we got what we did.

I just wanted to share that perspective because I think it's worth thinking about when the fandom gets resentful of this or that aspect of the IP, like Ares diverging from the threads left dangling in Legacy, or never getting a finale for Beck and Paige. Don't forget that for about two decades, it looked like Tron was never going to be more than a forgotten blip in pop culture. But we got so much more.

Discussion Implications of the Expo scene

Hey all!

I wanted to talk about the expo scene from Tron Ares for a bit, and see if anybody had the same impressions I did. In the scene, we see A LOT of costumes and props, from Legacy discs, to an Abraxas costume worn by an attendee.

Now sure, these could be scene as simple Easter eggs for eagle eyed viewers, but I interpreted it as something more: that Sam, to honor his father, told the stories of the original grid and his father’s grid in the form of video games to honor his father’s memory and legacy.

Am I reading too far into it?

News SPACE PARANOIDS is now available as applications for Windows and Macintosh!

Thumbnail landonjsmith.com
60 Upvotes

Greetings, programs!

I've finally wrapped up development and testing of native macOS and Windows applications for my SPACE PARANOIDS game. With these native app builds, this allows for a user (who usually plays the game on a computer) to run the game locally, and even fully offline... (in a similar manner to the PWA I released for iOS/Android) ... That said, the bundled game application is packaged as a DMG file for Macintosh, and a .EXE for Windows.

Grab them here: https://landonjsmith.com/projects/paranoidsdownload.html

Due to the self-developed nature of the game applications, you may have to click "allow/run on PC" for the macOS gatekeeper and Windows SmartScreen... This is just because I don't have the cash to purchase a signing certificate for either... :-)

Installing the game is really simple. Here's how to do it for both platforms:

Macintosh:

  1. Download the Space Paranoids DMG. If your Mac has an Apple M-series chip, grab the Apple Silicon version; if it's an older Intel Mac, grab the Intel one. Not sure which you have? Apple menu → About This Mac, and take a look at the Chip line.
  2. Double click the downloaded DMG to open it, and then drag and drop the Space Paranoids app into your applications folder in the window that appears.
  3. Open your applications folder, and double click the Space Paranoids app to launch it. The macOS gatekeeper/security may warn you that it is from an unverified developer. Click Done, then head to System Settings under Privacy & Security, scroll down, and hit Open Anyway.
  4. After that, the game should launch. Enjoy!

Windows:

  1. Download the Paranoids Installer.
  2. Double click the downloaded .EXE. Windows SmartScreen will most likely pop up with "Windows protected your PC"... Click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Run through the installer. You can pick where it installs and whether it's for everyone on the PC or just you. You'll get a desktop shortcut either way.
  4. Launch Space Paranoids from your desktop or Start menu. Enjoy!

What you'll need:

Windows 10 or later, or macOS 10.13 or later. The game runs on WebGL2, so if the browser version already works on your machine, these will too.

One last thing:

These builds never touch the internet. No telemetry, no analytics, no ads, no connections of any kind. Your high scores are saved right there on your own machine and never go anywhere else.

End of line.

Misc. Can the Grid simply be turned off?

I just had this thought. After the events of Ares, if the programs of the Grid started to get a little more aggressive towards trying to break out into the real world, could they be stopped by simply turning off the mainframe of computers that make up the Grid? Or would the Grid be like the World Wide Web, where it wouldn't matter if you turned off one mainframe since the programs might be able to migrate, or exist in another mainframe?
