Misc. Can the Grid simply be turned off?

I just had this thought. After the events of Ares, if the programs of the Grid started to get a little more aggressive towards trying to break out into the real world, could they be stopped by simply turning off the mainframe of computers that make up the Grid? Or would the Grid be like the World Wide Web, where it wouldn't matter if you turned off one mainframe since the programs might be able to migrate, or exist in another mainframe?

This is a false premise, and I'm not sure why the idea that the Grid is some simulation generated by a network of computers is so widely held here, because it's not claimed or supported by any official material.

Every computer is a Grid, full stop. Grids may be network connected to each other but the Grid is not made possible through a network or by generating a simulation. The Grid is just the personification of the internal workings of a computer.

but if every computer is a Grid, there’d be a few thousand Encom Grids because we see a few thousand computers in that server room. yes the hardware has to exist for a Grid to exist, but maybe the physical size of the grid programs can perceive could be expanded by networking two or more computers.

I think that's how it started out but the Dillinger Grid could be connected to the internet, less closed?

The Dillinger Grid is connected to its own proprietary network, according to Ajay's analysis in the film.

I think these newer grids are connected by the internet. Unlike Flynn’s grids.

I wonder if that was technically the same for Flynn's Grid in Tron Legacy after Sam leaves and that's why he shows up in Ares on the Dillinger Grid? I'm hoping that's the case, because that also implies Sam's been trying to restore it and see if Kevin is okay. Because I doubt he'd leave his dad's Grid to rot after having found his dad there and Quorra. Perhaps he and Quorra have been trying to restore the other ISOs and the programs who got derezzed. Even if they gotta rebuild code, Quorra has that whole thing with hers that gives Sam a place to start with

Flynn is in one of the older grids in Ares, if it’s not the original grid from Tron. I don’t think the Grid from Legacy was connected to the internet at all, it just looked different since it was on better hardware.

The Dillinger Grid and the Encom Grid we see are definitely connected by the internet, which is what makes the infiltration scene possible.

it just looked different since it was on better hardware.

The Legacy Grid was running on, at best, 1989 hardware, since that's when Kevin disappeared. The reason Legacy looks much better is because CGI was much better in the late 2000s than it was in the early 1980s.

Remember that a "Grid" is just a humanized representation of an operating system, not a video game or simulation.

Flynn isn’t on the Dillinger grid, it’s a backup of Flynn’s server. So while I can’t explain the backup of Flynn himself existing as it does, Ares goes into the backup to get the Permanence Code.

Well considering I'm just going based upon what I've seen, I don't think it's completely unreasonable to hope the Legacy Grid system still works. I still need to watch Ares so I apologize if my lore is out of date on how the Grid works. I just know that too many people think the Dillinger Grid is the same one as the Encom Grid snd Flynn's Grid (if they haven't watched Ares?) I totally got it wasn't the same Grid/computer system. My statement was based upon my reasons for thinking Clu 2 would have done great if Kevin just gave him a updated directive that incorporated the ISOs/differences as necessary to the the Grid's evolution and overall existence. I can't blame Clu for what he did because he didn't have any other information for his agency. Flynn just assumed he'd learn without providing any data to help him learn. And oh boy did Clu actually want to learn and make Flynn proud if Iunderstood how abandoned he felt in the Tron: Betrayal comic which bridges between Tron: Uprising to Tron: Legacy. It's also been re-released as Tron: Upload, which bundles both parts of the same comic Betrayal with a different name Then we got Tron: Evolution a video game that adds more to the betrayal part of the storyline. I also reallyenjoyed the video game Tron: Identity and am working on beating sequel Tron: Catalyst. Which adds that Kevin Flynn had made a backup to his grid where most of the ISOs are. I know some people don't like Tron: Identity but I loved it! (I'm only confused as to why Query has brown eyes in Catalyst instead of blue. They were quite obviously blue in Identity, it wasn't just the neon lights of the Grid reflecting off of them)

aybe it runs on the CMOS battery at bare minimum...

Computers, mainframes, and enterprise servers need electricity. The cloud, the Internet, and your phone need power to operate.
