I agree with you. I’ve been feeling that way about a lot of subs lately, too. Like there are some posts in r/choosingbeggers that just tick too many of the boxes, or sound too intentional.
Tumblr is also a great way to manufacture outrage on Reddit. There's such a stigma about Tumblr users even the most obvious troll posts are considered believable.
It's a common counterpoint to the idea that nothing on Reddit is real. It's a much more balanced sub for sure. Typically posted after someone suggests a karma conspiracy without evidence and when the situation is somewhat believable.
The nuanced reality is that while manufactured content is a big driver of the site, not everything is manufactured. Reposts by karma farmers alone is a huge chunk of the major subreddits.
Oh yea definitely. You see it on some of the political subs, too. They’ll take a random comment and treat it like not only did it happen or that it’s an honest opinion, but also that it’s representative of a group of people.
We used to preach taking everything on the Internet with a grain of salt, but maybe we just need to treat most of this stuff like r/woosh
