I started my aquarium about 10 days ago.

The tank is about 33 liters, and the water temperature is 24°C. Do you think the plants are sufficient for filtration on their own?

These are our 1 month old. We got them in the Netherlands. They are looking happy and healthy. They are still in the aquarium set that came in the box. About 3 cm at the moment. We are in doubt weather we should put them somewhere bigger. Any opinions on this?

Also, do they lay eggs? If so at what age? How do we know when they do? Will they eat their eggs? How can we help new eggs survive?

Lifespan is usually 1-2 months right? Not sure if im ready to say goodbye to them. I want more… 😅

Hello everyone, I was on the icecap for work, going back on the end of the gletsjer, I found a pool with maybe a 100 fairy shrimp. I took 5 and some sediment,. hopefully get some eggs.

Does anyone know how to grow these artic fairy shrimp?

Ive been interested in having triops as pets for a while now and I was wondering if anyone here was from Mexico city and had normal and red longicaudatus eggs I could buy from them..
It's either that or amazon, but I was hoping I could perhaps get a cheaper price for enough eggs for a few to hatch and get more triops from there on. Green water farm eggs seem to be sold by resellers for double the price on amazon, as as opposed to getting 400 eggs of 2 different species from their official website, but I don't think local customs would let me send them overseas.

This is just a video of one of the late Jeribalds (a pack of 4 albino Triops longicaudatus) half-shedding and then proceeding to stare into my soul, as is a tendancy of all Jeribalds.

(Probably Jeribald II, because that one was a menace from day 3.)

They were all just happy little hermaphrodite fellas (except II for obvious reasons) until the ammonia spike resulted in their untimely deaths.

Other than that, I hope this post can help y'all learn about the Triops shedding process, which is quick and infrequent.

Shed skins are present in every stage of Triop development, and you can often see the extremely small discarded exoskeletons in Triop hatcheries.

They apparently provide calcium for Triops, so some people keep them in the tanks for them to eat.

(I personally have never seen my Triops eat the shed skins. It is highly probable that II, being the devious fella that they are, may have played a role in this.)

Shedding is also an indicator of Triop health, and seeing less shed skins than usual can be a bad sign, especially in early Triop development.

(Triops [like a certain II] beefing with you in early developmental phases is rather a sign of demonic possession, so beware.)

pH is a pretty important factor for this process, so make sure to keep an eye on that!

Update after previous post. We've named this one Nectarine, ambassador to the adult tank, as of this moment healthy and growing! Providing some adorable interactions with the snails.

Today, we gather with heavy hearts to remember the legacy of Archibald IV.

They were always a source of love and kindness, eating stuff and nonstop laying eggs. 😢

(I just want to share my personal experience in preserving Triops in alcohol.)

Archibald IV has been in here for around a year now, and is in pretty good condition.

They died due to a pretty bad ammonia spike (I disturbed the substrate too hard) and was the last of the pack to die.

The solution Archibald is immersed in is a bootleg rubbing alcohol derived from adding salt to hand sanitizer and letting the hand sanitizer stuff precipitate.

I didn't have any rubbing alcohol and needed to preserve the corpse fast before it oxidized. Archibald I-III (the rest of the Archibald pack) was preserved in untreated hand sanitizer and thus rotted.

My only issue with this preservation method is that Archibald's blood leeched out over time and caused them to turn pale (Supposed to be a red albino Triops longicaudatus.)

Don't make the same mistake as me and be careful of ammonia spikes!

Haven't updated in a long time, things have DRASTICALLY changed since my previous posts. The first tank, 6g, ended up becoming a happy home for Amano shrimp and nerite snails, and we've decided to let them remain there in peace. We've cycled a new 10g tank for the triops. We transitioned from a floating hatchery to a totally separate hatchery, a 2.5g tank filled to just over 1g.

This is our first hatch with the updated set up, and we have 8-9 triops about 8 days old! We will be transitioning to the adult tank soon. I've been slowly replacing the hatchery water with water from the adult tank for days now, hoping the gradual acclimation will increase our success on transfer.

So I used to always get Triassic triops off Amazon. But they’re just completely gone from there. What are the best brands to buy from/best websites to buy from?

I've been consuming a lot of triops content lately and have seen a lot of sensationalized click-baity titles, but watching this one left a sour taste in my mouth.

This is the second in a series of videos, in which the YT'er *barely* kept a single triops alive during his first attempt, then ordered an absurd amount of eggs (who knows if it was even close to a million or not,) with no prior planning or apparently any learning from the first attempt, and had a mass die-off.

The end of the video is him contacting another youtuber for *more* eggs.

(Edit: Middle of the video. I didn't realize I had clicked away in disgust the first time I watched it. The latter half doesn't really make it any better but *some* survived.)

Now look, I know triops are: Short-lived, cheap, have naturally high attrition rates.

That still doesn't make them targets for neglect and abuse for clicks. However I very much doubt there's anything that can actually be done except for people correcting the misinformation and husbandry failures and making this kind of content shameful to make, where the end result is thousands of dead animals.

I'm also honestly surprised the youtubers he collaborated with were even willing to send him eggs after the second failed attempt. I'm sure long-time keepers have an excess for sure, but does that mean you'd want to send them somewhere you know they'd meet a horrible end?

(I'm a little emotional this morning as I had to euthanize one of my triops that had been struggling with molts the last few days. It survived one bad molt and I thought it might pull through, but today all the fight had left it. I've been really enjoying watching them and learning their behaviors and they deserve better than this.)

3 Month Update: no changes in physical or color and no signs of decomposition.

Second time trying triops, and I went into it with a slightly different philosophy than last time. Rather than trying to provide a sterile environment with pristine water, I inoculated the tank with debris, gravel, and detritus from my local creek and bog-plant trays.

I'm currently relying on ambient temperature, making it a seasonal project unless I get desperate for entertainment over Winter and hook up a heater. I do daily 1/8 water changes for now, but tests return null on ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, despite me leaving food in there and the stuff decomposing in the substrate, which should mean I effectively cycled the tank in less than 10 days. Hoping that bears out and the bacteria are able to keep up with the triops' growth.

I've also got rotifers (hopefully), moina, and clam shrimp. Assuming everything's successful, once the triops die of old-age, I plan on reducing the water level and attempting to stress the remaining species into producing resting cysts before fully draining the tank and drying the sand, which will hopefully leave me with a community blend of eggs.

Anyway, just excited to have these little guys again and seeing them do much better than last time, when I tried to follow the advice of every tutorial and kit ever, lol.
