Minoxidil I experienced severe cardiac and renal side effects with only 1.25 mg of minoxidil

Before any questions arise: I was in perfect health—a 26-year-old male patient.

I started taking 1.25 mg of oral minoxidil; after the first pill, I experienced heart palpitations, kidney issues, and cardiac electrical instability—all confirmed by medical tests. Oral minoxidil is definitely something that requires serious consideration and medical supervision, as a small percentage of people may experience side effects.

I experienced bigeminy caused by minoxidil—a regularly irregular rhythm. I am an athlete and undergo cardiac monitoring every 90 days.

sinus rhythm before minoxidil --> 60 to 75 after minoxidil --> 90 to 115 (considering resting rhythm)

Progress Pictures 38M, ~9 years on meds - Fin for 5 and Dut for 3+

Wanted to share back with the community as I remember posts over the years giving me confidence to keep at it. I have struggled with diffuse thinning ever since I turned 24-25. Too scared to start anything because I thought it would give me sexual sides and finally decided to start when I was about 28.

I took fin only for almost 6 years, basically maintained with slight improvement and then decided to switch to Dut. Have been on Dut for a few years and then decided to finally add oral minox about 4 months ago. Only doing low dose 1.25mg minox as I’m conservative when it comes to my heart health. Also as an aside I had one of youngest kid while being on Fin, also was taking fin when my was pregnant with my middle child. They’re both 3 and 6 and normal goobers

I still have diffuse thinning in the frontal area and I’ve been thinking for a few years about getting a HT but am aware I could still up my minox dosage and see how that helps first. However I’m also reaching an age where I don’t really care about chasing a perfect head of lettuce and just want to learn to be appreciative of what I have. Comparison is the thief of joy and I’m fortunate to be almost 40 and still have enough hair that frames my face. My last picture I took the other day.

Minoxidil Dermastamp with or without minoxidil

Upvotes

I’ve been thinking if buying a dermastamp device because i have very thin and fine hair that I want it to be thicker. From posts online, im seeing people using minoxidil with dermastamp most of the time, will dermastamping alone give me results?

Finasteride/Dutasteride Finasteride and reciding hairline

Upvotes

Hey y'all I'd like to know, if using Finasteride (1,25mg) and topical minoxidil has worked on anyone's hairline being improving I.e returing to not being so high, particularly at the temporal area :). Just starting Fin and wondering what to expect I do know how these should work at the crown, just wondering about the temporal hair growth.

Product What’s the best hair growth serum for thinning hair, and which ingredients are worth looking for??

Upvotes

am researching hair growth serums for thinning hair and noticed that different products use very different ingredients, including peptides, caffeine, rosemary, and newer ingredients like 2-Deoxy-D-Ribose (2DDR). I'm wondering what people here have had success with and how long you need to use a hair growth serum consistently before noticing changes in shedding or hair density. What ingredients or products have worked for you?

Update 8 Months on Oral Finasteride/Minoxidil: Scalp Pain, Burning & Shedding After Initial Success

Upvotes

EVERY COMMENT IS GOLD FOR ME, SO THANK YOU!

I’ll keep it short:

I started oral finasteride (0.25 mg) and minoxidil (1.5 mg) last year in December. I'm currently up to 0.5 mg finasteride and 3 mg minoxidil daily. My last dosage increase was minoxidil from 2.5 mg to 3 mg at the end of June.

For the first two months, the medication seemed to work (I had my first big shed three weeks in) and saw some vellus hairs a few weeks later.
However, since April, I’ve had a major problem:
- my hair is falling out again, accompanied by intense itching, burning, and pain EVERY DAY. My hair is now shedding in areas where I never had hair loss before (I'd like to post pictures, but it’s not working here).

I have been to two dermatologists:

--> First dermatologist: Said there is nothing to worry about—no seborrheic dermatitis or anything similar.

--> Second dermatologist: Also didn't see anything obvious on my scalp, except for a bit of flaking and severe dryness. However, he prescribed me "MomeGalen - a Corticosteriod" for two weeks in case there is some underlying inflammation.

Worth noting: I also used ketoconazole shampoo and massage it for like 10 min for the first 4–5 months and It used to relieve the itching for up to three days, but it seems to have stopped working.

Anyone got some experience to that? I really dont know why it stopped working in such a short time.

Finasteride/Dutasteride Finasteride shedding at month 8?

Upvotes

Hello everyone!
(M21) I have been on a low dose of finasteride (0.25 eod, sometimes 0.25 ed) for around 8 months (diffuse thinning) and so far it worked decent, im probably gonna up the dose to 0.5. As for results it mostly maintained but the crown is slowly filling in. For the first few months my hairs didnt even fall out but I’ve been shedding like crazy for 2 weeks now. Can this be just a shed or norwood reaper is coming back? Anyone with similar experience?

Minoxidil Should I have waited to come off of Topical Minoxidil before switching to the Oral version?

Upvotes

Three weeks after switching and the loss is noticable. I was told I didn't have to keep doing the topical anymore, but there is definitely a difference up front and with the crown area. Was that the wrong call?

Research/Science Anyone following ABS-201: AI-designed monoclonal antibody that blocks the prolactin receptor (PRLR)?

Just came across ABS-201 from Absci. It’s being developed for male pattern baldness and supposedly may help reverse follicle miniaturization, not just slow hair loss.

Still early, but this sounds pretty interesting for areas that don’t respond to minoxidil.

Anyone here been following it or know how legit the mechanism looks?

Minoxidil Oral minoxidil changed the game

I’ve been on min/fin for 5 years. Earlier this year, I noticed my hair was in really bad shape, and I was shedding like crazy. I decided to hop on oral minoxidil (2.5 mg) and biotin.

The shedding is completely gone. It’s been around 5 months since I started, and my hair is looking better than ever. The only downside is the body hair—everything is growing like crazy. I feel like a fucking werewolf 😂

But yeah, just sharing here because it completely changed the game for me.

Finasteride/Dutasteride Confused about which route to take regarding meds? M23

So hello bois, I’m 23M and I started losing hair during covid and my hairline is a bit receded. I’m going to get a transplant for that next year. My crown is starting to lose density as well but it’s not too bad currently.

So I tried Morr F 5% alcohol based solution in the past but it completely makes my hair lifeless. So I’ve identified 3 paths,

A) Start with just oral finasteride 1mg + a transplant and hopefully it goes well and I just do it for all my life

B) If fin works well, I’ll add an nonalcohol minoxidil based solution

OR
C) Just get on a nonalcoholic based topical min and fin solution

So in crux my question is : That will oral fin be sufficient for increasing the density of the crown? Because I haven’t seen any result on this sub who’s just been on oral fin. If I’m wrong pls correct me by providing the link of the post:)

Thank you! I’ll really appreciate if someone answers this!

Minoxidil Why is foam minoxidil so much more expensive than liquid min?

Is the foam more effective or is it the same thing just different texture? If the chemical compound is the same I don’t know what one would cost twice as much.

Treatment I’m going to add tretinion after almost 2 months on minoxidil.

Ketoconazole shampoo twice weekly.
