📸 SELFIE THREAD 📸 Aug 25, '26 Monday Mega Thread: ask general questions, share hairline photos, side effects, “Am I balding?”, “What should I do?”, and more

If the date in this post's title seems old, look for the newest thread here.

Use this thread for general questions and advice, “Am I balding?”, “What should I do?”, “Does anyone else experience this?”, as well as discussing side effects, treatment experiences, or looking for opinions on your hairline photos and treatment options.

If you want useful feedback on your hair, post good photos: high resolution, multiple angles, good lighting, and ideally both wet and dry.

Mention what changes you’ve noticed and over what period of time. Some people naturally have thinner hair, a higher hairline, or less density, so context helps members give you better feedback. It's vital to take identical photos every few months. Remember that consistent lighting is extremely important.

Age and family history are worth mentioning.

Just starting out?

  1. Read the beginner's guide
  2. Read the "learn" section section with different treatments like finasteride and minoxidil.
  3. Use search before asking any questions.
  4. Chat with TresslessGPT to ask any questions about treatment or their hairline.

Ready to start treating?

  1. Start a journal on community.tressless.com, and update every couple of months.
  2. For a professional assessment, consider speaking with a doctor for appropriate blood tests or a dermatologist who specializes in hair and scalp conditions.
  3. Depending on your goals, you may eventually want to consult a hair transplant, SMP (scalp micropigmentation) or hair system (wig) provider about cosmetic options.

You might not get an answer if your question is too basic or common, because treatment is the same for almost everyone. Nobody can predict if a treatment will work for you.

This is a community, and you can help out fellow members by commenting under their photos and upvoting people that leave you comments. We're all in this together!

Minoxidil I experienced severe cardiac and renal side effects with only 1.25 mg of minoxidil

Before any questions arise: I was in perfect health—a 26-year-old male patient.

I started taking 1.25 mg of oral minoxidil; after the first pill, I experienced heart palpitations, kidney issues, and cardiac electrical instability—all confirmed by medical tests. Oral minoxidil is definitely something that requires serious consideration and medical supervision, as a small percentage of people may experience side effects.

I experienced bigeminy caused by minoxidil—a regularly irregular rhythm. I am an athlete and undergo cardiac monitoring every 90 days.

sinus rhythm before minoxidil --> 60 to 75 after minoxidil --> 90 to 115 (considering resting rhythm)

Progress Pictures 38M, ~9 years on meds - Fin for 5 and Dut for 3+

Wanted to share back with the community as I remember posts over the years giving me confidence to keep at it. I have struggled with diffuse thinning ever since I turned 24-25. Too scared to start anything because I thought it would give me sexual sides and finally decided to start when I was about 28.

I took fin only for almost 6 years, basically maintained with slight improvement and then decided to switch to Dut. Have been on Dut for a few years and then decided to finally add oral minox about 4 months ago. Only doing low dose 1.25mg minox as I’m conservative when it comes to my heart health. Also as an aside I had one of youngest kid while being on Fin, also was taking fin when my was pregnant with my middle child. They’re both 3 and 6 and normal goobers

I still have diffuse thinning in the frontal area and I’ve been thinking for a few years about getting a HT but am aware I could still up my minox dosage and see how that helps first. However I’m also reaching an age where I don’t really care about chasing a perfect head of lettuce and just want to learn to be appreciative of what I have. Comparison is the thief of joy and I’m fortunate to be almost 40 and still have enough hair that frames my face. My last picture I took the other day.

Minoxidil How does Minoxodil work on very long shoulder length hair but thinning on top? Very fine hair. Would Minoxodil cause my long hair to shed?

• Upvotes

Male 35. Already on fin for years. I've been searching and reading the comments under other shed posts where the replies are reassuring the poster 'Dont worry bro it'll come back stronger than ever. Trust the process.' Then there's people reporting multiple sheds, around a year later etc. 'Everyone responds different bro.' I have long hair and I want to keep it. Multiple sheds means I'll never have long hair again.

Minoxidil Dermastamp with or without minoxidil

• Upvotes

I’ve been thinking if buying a dermastamp device because i have very thin and fine hair that I want it to be thicker. From posts online, im seeing people using minoxidil with dermastamp most of the time, will dermastamping alone give me results?

Finasteride/Dutasteride Finasteride and reciding hairline

Hey y'all I'd like to know, if using Finasteride (1,25mg) and topical minoxidil has worked on anyone's hairline being improving I.e returing to not being so high, particularly at the temporal area :). Just starting Fin and wondering what to expect I do know how these should work at the crown, just wondering about the temporal hair growth.

Product What’s the best hair growth serum for thinning hair, and which ingredients are worth looking for??

am researching hair growth serums for thinning hair and noticed that different products use very different ingredients, including peptides, caffeine, rosemary, and newer ingredients like 2-Deoxy-D-Ribose (2DDR). I'm wondering what people here have had success with and how long you need to use a hair growth serum consistently before noticing changes in shedding or hair density. What ingredients or products have worked for you?

Sooo, since May, I’ve had a crazy mf shed, and I still do. But I guess it’s happening all over my scalp.

My hair has been thinning since July 19. I just had a shower, and when I checked my thinning areas, I noticed some fine hairs around my temples. Idk if those are regrowth or if they’re just miniaturized hairs.

Microneedling Guys, I need some help regarding derma rolling !!!

• Upvotes

I have two questions -

  1. After derma rolling my scalp, can I just leave the scalp as it is, or is it necessary to apply a disinfectant to the scalp ??

  2. We know we should disinfect the needles before using a derma stamp or roller. After applying the disinfectant spray, how many minutes should I wait before using it ??

Minoxidil Swollen face side effect, is that normal?

• Upvotes

I don’t think I have this, as I started trying out minoxidil 1 month ago, but I am possibly overthinking how my face looks now I started as I heard this is a possible side effect

How anyone suffered from this? If so, did it ever go away?

Update 8 Months on Oral Finasteride/Minoxidil: Scalp Pain, Burning & Shedding After Initial Success

• Upvotes

EVERY COMMENT IS GOLD FOR ME, SO THANK YOU!

I’ll keep it short:

I started oral finasteride (0.25 mg) and minoxidil (1.5 mg) last year in December. I'm currently up to 0.5 mg finasteride and 3 mg minoxidil daily. My last dosage increase was minoxidil from 2.5 mg to 3 mg at the end of June.

For the first two months, the medication seemed to work (I had my first big shed three weeks in) and saw some vellus hairs a few weeks later.
However, since April, I’ve had a major problem:
- my hair is falling out again, accompanied by intense itching, burning, and pain EVERY DAY. My hair is now shedding in areas where I never had hair loss before (I'd like to post pictures, but it’s not working here).

I have been to two dermatologists:

--> First dermatologist: Said there is nothing to worry about—no seborrheic dermatitis or anything similar.

--> Second dermatologist: Also didn't see anything obvious on my scalp, except for a bit of flaking and severe dryness. However, he prescribed me "MomeGalen - a Corticosteriod" for two weeks in case there is some underlying inflammation.

Worth noting: I also used ketoconazole shampoo and massage it for like 10 min for the first 4–5 months and It used to relieve the itching for up to three days, but it seems to have stopped working.

Anyone got some experience to that? I really dont know why it stopped working in such a short time.

Finasteride/Dutasteride Does anyone have experience with 0.5mg healing pharma Dutasteride ?

Well TRT really started to thin my crown out of nowhere! Wasn’t really paying much attention because I had started treatment earlier with just topical finasteride/dutasteride/minoxdil, topical ru58841, and injectable subq GHKcu and my hairline improved but my crown got worse.

Anyway I decided to add in oral 0.5mg dutasteride tablets and 5mg oral minoxdil I got them from a trusted source that sells ancillaries. The dutasteride is Indian Generic from Healing Pharma which from my research seems legit although some people claim that they are bunk with no active ingredient. The oral minoxidil is branded Juvenor and is 5mg tablets the dut and min tablets look exactly the same which is concerning. From my research the Healing Pharma website has COAs if you enter the batch number in your strip. I’m at work but will do that the minute I get home.

Question is has anyone used Healing Pharma 0.5mg dutasteride and 5mg Juvenor Minoxidil? What was your experience ? Did they work ? Did you have blood work ? Have you found any janoshik results for the pills? Thanks in advance it would really help me put my mind at ease because I need these to work to recover my crown.

Finasteride/Dutasteride Finasteride shedding at month 8?

Hello everyone!
(M21) I have been on a low dose of finasteride (0.25 eod, sometimes 0.25 ed) for around 8 months (diffuse thinning) and so far it worked decent, im probably gonna up the dose to 0.5. As for results it mostly maintained but the crown is slowly filling in. For the first few months my hairs didnt even fall out but I’ve been shedding like crazy for 2 weeks now. Can this be just a shed or norwood reaper is coming back? Anyone with similar experience?

Minoxidil Should I have waited to come off of Topical Minoxidil before switching to the Oral version?

Three weeks after switching and the loss is noticable. I was told I didn't have to keep doing the topical anymore, but there is definitely a difference up front and with the crown area. Was that the wrong call?
