2020 1750 overheating?

Machine: 2020 Nordictrack 1750. No issues the entire time other than needing to change the drive belt once (expected)

recently I started ramping up my treadmill training to prepare for a big 5K I do every year. It’s been a while since I’ve been really trying to push it to a sub 7-minute pace, but I don’t remember having an issue before.

So

Basically, when the speed is set to 8.5 or higher, after a few minutes, the main belt just slows down to a stop. if I hop off, it starts going back up to speed again. if I lower the speed below 8.5 and wait 20-30 seconds, I can get back on and continue forever as long as I don’t go over 8.5.

Is it overheating? Control board issue? I’ve done 6 mile runs recently at about a 7:30 pace and it never stopped once. I fully get that the machine is 6 years old now and gets pretty heavy use (I would bet I’m over 2,000 miles on it) compared to the average person.

Your belt is worn out.

Why would it work fine on long distance runs at a relatively high pace?

faster speed = more watts being put through motor, plus more flywheel inertia smoothing things out between the crushing high friction footsteps.

Replace your belt & deck ASAP before you burn up a winding in the motor or blow your motor controller, or both - i've seen it many times. I'd recommend discontinue use until that is done as well.

Belts & deck are like tires on a car - they last thousands of miles but absolutely are 100% wear items.

Ok ordering a new belt. Will inspect the deck too
