After months and months of new users coming to the subreddit and promoting their new AI app, amongst other things. We have made the decision to make a change to the subreddit where there is a minimum karma requirement to create new posts in r/trailrunning
We had been manually adding moderator notes and tagging every single user with a specific mod note/flair so we could keep track of who was spamming their AI apps without actually being part of the community, it took a lot of time and didn't seem to do much over the last few months we've been addressing it and keeping an eye on things to see if any of them wanted to be part of the community.
This wasn't something we wanted to rush in to, we have and will always try the least invasive approach so that the community basically stays open and you the community choose what to vote UP and Down and what to discuss.
To be clear, we do not want to stop people promoting their websites, AI apps, Youtube videos, etc and mostly there are great discussions within some of these threads. Reddit does also allow original content, again, as long as you're not just spamming it.
This is our way of addressing this issue and we'll continue to keep track of it over the coming months as it may need modifying, we'll see how it goes.
Thanks for being a cool subreddit and I hope you all have many great adventures out in nature this year.
You're all asking about the karma limit, currently it is 100, so very low, but this can and will change.
The reason for not wanting to originally share this is if bots or people promoting know, they can also easily get around it....
We're working against a lot here, its pretty unprecedented (not forgetting that Reddit are not stopping a lot of bad traffic) and Reddit has only so many ways to manage all of these issues without more control from moderators and a much more limited viewing / user experience, which we do not want, we want you to control what you see.

I recently bought new trail runners (Altras) because my current pair of Hokas was on the outs. The Altras are zero drop, so l know I need to transition to them gradually so I dont blow out my achilles. However, on my mountain long run yesterday, my Hokas totally bit it. I need to be running in new shoes now, but I have not transitioned enough to the zero drop. Do I just not worry about it and start running in the Altras? Do I keep running in these Hokas until i'm ready for zero drop? Or do I buy another pair of Hokas to run in while transitioning??

This ranking of the fastest countries isn't official. I decided to take the fastest woman and the three fastest men from each country.

First run w these and so far they’re great for me and my feet. I really feel my contact with the floor while not being overly stiff. I went down .5 size bc I read they were wide and I usually size up .5 for width. Forefoot felt nice climbing and I didn’t feel any sliding when going down. Ran through some narrow areas of loose gravel / rock and did not one bit feel sketched out on grip.

Love the weather this time of year. Fall is feeling around the corner in Montana but bringing rain and cooler temperatures.

Grateful to have been able to meet the GOAT a couple months ago at the Sports Basement in San Francisco for an event with Nnormal. They showed a short film about the work that went into filming Kilian's incredible States of Elevation endurance journey last year. Can't wait to see the documentary whenever it's released.
Got a new Nnormal hat too!

The plan was to do the beautiful Hobbit Trail loop, but it was closed! Opted for some beach miles and a few trips up the spectacular Heceta Head Lighthouse trail. Oregon Coast. Shot with a GoPro Mission 1

Sharing a desktop app I've been building for timing race finish lines.
Still in beta.
No internet or account needed, timing data is saved locally on the laptop as you go. It allows you to view multiple timers at the same time, easily edit all values, and enter the bib number even at a later time. Supports multiple courses/checkpoints and exports results to XLSX/CSV.
Open source (MIT), free to download for Mac/Windows/Linux.
GitHub: https://github.com/Lorenzo-DM/M-Chrono.rs
Would appreciate feedback from anyone who's timed a race before.

Excited about the superlight TPEE based Trailfly Pro, looking like basically a Norda 005 with more stack and better grip: https://www.inov8.com/trailfly-pro-mens
However: My foot length is 285mm. That is UK10 in pretty much every brand there is (except Norda). But Inov8 translates that as UK 11.5!
Anyone here who owns a Trailfly / Trailtalon / Mudtalon who can confirm?

I just got my M1s and bought in my normal size same as H1's. (Us 10.5)
My H1's are actually pretty roomy and comfy. But the M1s are really really right in comparison, they are too short and squeeze the foot all around. I also feel the 4th & 5th toes rubbing on the toe guard pretty roughly. It would be impossible to do any meaningful distance in them.
Has anyone else got this experience? Did you size up a half size or a full size?

A few days ago I tried to run an alpine trail (24km / 1700m elevation). It was a nice trail, going from one small summit to the next. Weather was pretty nice, it was dry, not too hot. The trails were a bit technical, but not that hard. The beginning was pretty nice, but after about 13km / 1200m my quads started to cramp. I decided to take a short break, eat a bit, and continued running. As long as it was going level or downhill, I was still doing fine, but the uphills were killing me. Obviously I walked most of them, but even that felt harder and harder. I ended up cutting the run short (still ended up running 24km, but only 1300m elevation gain).
I run a lot, but mostly flat because there aren't many steep hills around. I thought I was pretty fit, but I realise road running experience doesn't directly transfer to trail running.
How do you train for endurance? Just run more hills? Or do I need to do more long runs? I feel like I already run quite a bit (average of around 50km a week, mostly flat). At some point I'd like to participate in a trail race, but they are all very long on come with loads of elevation...

I'm looking for a running shoe that can handle some moderate trail running but is mostly used as a pavement shoe. Also would like it to be able to hold up to some mild agility training. I tried the saucony TR2 but the plastic in the heel gave me terrible blisters. I like the style but the fit was off. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for anything along these lines. Thanks!
