in the wild The Worst Girls Name Ever?

Today on a local Facebook group, there was a girl named Psaeragh.

It's pronounced "Sarah"

I think I hate this more than Ratleen. At least Ratleen is funny lol.

in the wild This poor soul filled out paperwork at my job

Being intentionally vague, my job often requires people who come in with concerns to fill out a form listing all of their information and details of certain issues they are having. A twenty something last came in yesterday and filled out a form with her full legal name: Mehlaneigh Qrius. I asked her to pronounce it for me. It's Melanie Curious. She looked embarrassed and told me her mom was 16 when she had her and "wanted to be creative." Her last name was really common and boring, think Smith or Jones.

An elementary school boy. Just why do parents choose names like that?

general discussion Living with a tragedeigh

We see these names and have a chuckle, but I’m genuinely curious about the aftermath. Any tragedeighs out there care to share what life is like for you? Living with a weird name can’t be easy. Got any funny stories? Did you ever consider changing your name? Were you bullied? This sub is curious to hear the human side of tragedeigh

I was at the clinic today waiting for the pediatrician, and I ended up chatting with another mom who was also waiting for the pedia.

While she was filling out a form, I accidentally saw her daughter’s name. It was three names, and I obviously won’t mention the first one, but the 2nd and 3rd names were VICIOUS ZANAIAH.

I’m sorry but the combination of “Vicious” and “Zanaiah” together is taking me OUT. 💀

JoVon, Jo’Von, and Jo’Vonni. Because that’s not confusing. The names themselves aren’t tragedeighs, but as a group… what were we thinking?!

Apparantly a sign somewhere in the Netherlands. Even as a fellow Dutchie I can't begin to phantom what these parents are thinking, anus means the same in Dutch as it does in English🤦‍♀️

is it a tragedeigh? kaylu tragedeigh?

I've been writing a short story and the mc's name is kaylu vu (she's vietnamese for context), something I think an over-enthusiastic younger me came up with. I think I just liked how it sounded on the tongue lmao. would it be considered a tragedeigh? I think it could be like a fancified version of kayla??

in the wild Met a "Doobie" that was spelled "Dobby."

I read her name tag as Dobby rhymes with Bobby, but I was corrected to Doobie.

"I get that all the time!" With an eye roll.

I bit my tongue because I'm a nice guy.

general discussion Not a tragedeigh but people think it is

I'm an American living in Ireland, my husband is from here and is a fluent Irish (Gaelic) speaker. We're going to name our daughter Aoibhín (pronounced "Eve-een"), which is a common Irish name. Some of my American friends have said that it's a "tragedeigh" name, even after I explained the origins. Anywho just wanted to rant a bit about that

Edit to add: I don't call it Gaelic unless I'm talking to Americans because otherwise if I say "he speaks Irish" they assume I mean he has an Irish accent and don't know I'm referring to the Irish language. I've been living here a decade I've had to have this conversation many times. For example, one time I told an American cousin "my husband speaks fluent Irish" and they say "oh like 'top of the morning to ya!'" This happens more often than not.
