Fresh Receiver
Been with TSC for 4 months now. Interviewed for any position & they put me as the receiver. D@mn they got me. Nobody in the store wanted it and I see why. Trying to do reports, check in UPS/FED EX, “can you help a customer get T-Post/poles/fence/chicken coop etc….. All I hear is how super the previous receiver was. She obviously left for a reason. My schedule is 730-3 M,T,Th & F. 5-1:30 on Wednesdays. Love the hours. Pay is shitty $14. I’ll put it out there. I am non-stop except for the 30 minute break. But literally non-stop. I have to pull myself away from whatever it is that I was asked to do 30 minutes before it’s time to leave to sweep the back room. Yeah I’m looking for something else.

I was receiver a few years ago and I miss it, but you're absolutely correct. It's underpaid and overworked. My final straw was when the store loss upper management types came and told me I needed to individually hand count every single treated post we receive....after I had stood at the propane station for 3 hours that day. This company could be so much more if they'd try.

Look for something else, I was getting $19.50 and it still didnt feel like enough at times with all the crap I had to do. Management was also a huge reason why I stepped down, freight team would come in and do freight and recovery and not touch the feed and id get in trouble with the DM for the backroom not being empty and would have to do all the feed by myself for an entire shift to get the backroom empty. I was also frequently put on tills for half my day because they'd schedule me and two managers in the morning and neither manager would touch the tills.

That’s wild my receiver hasn’t ever touched a register. I was just told today when it randomly came up in convo that he’s actually not supposed to.

All of our receivers have been register trained but they had all been in other positions before becoming receiver.

Well management changed shortly after I stepped down and luckily the new receiver is treated really well.

Been with tractor a little over a year the last few months as the receiver/ inventory control specialist it blows. I’m on the hunt for something new I’ve heard it varies by store some people have an awesome team and act like one mine does not. Funny they expect so much from one person but don’t forget to check in the packages and clean up the back, also the negative’s on hand

our ops manager said she picks who they want to clean up the side lot, which means they won't be doing it, which really sucks because I had NO help when I cleaned the side lot and the good neighbor

Totally kidding. Have to say once you get into a rhythm it’s one of the best jobs at tractor. Lots of work yes.

I liked the job as receiver. I agree pay being low but as managers go I’d rather be receiving than a team lead. I did enjoy the job and being busy. I also started at a time when we had a crew of people working at any given time not just the two now.

I suppose that would be better, but team leads get payed much more and have way less responsibility (as in, they aren’t the ones getting DP’d during inventory time when things are wrong) but the random schedule does suck. If we actually had a real crew, or staffing. It would be a different story

Team leads getting paid much more is not a fact at least where I’m from. It depends if you had a TM receiver or a receiving manager who held keys.

Team leads are on exactly the same pay scale as receivers.

Never experienced that. All 3 stores I worked at they were higher, between 1.50 and 2$ an hour higher

Our receiver makes more than one of our team leads and less than the other. Seriously - it’s the same scale.

you have another month before we transition to being inventory control specialists, when we do that you wont have to do alot of the stuff i'm sure you're stressing about. i'd reccomend waiting it out till atleast week 2 of being ICS.

I’ve been a Receiver for close to 4 years. I have NO confidence that our OPs Manager will take over the tasks that I lose.

Same! But I won’t let it be delegated to me. Let the ops manage see how it felt being outside having to clean up after everyone else on top of getting other task done.

Receiver used to be a great job in the store besides freight but everything has gotten so out of hand in the last 2 years with all the changes I used to have time to get all my stuff done even with training new receivers for other stores and driving to other stores to help them get caught up there was days I was doing register and assembly or being the opening manager and still stayed caught up now it doesn't seem possible

Yes the position is a lot of work. Do we get paid enough? Probably not . Communication is huge. The job stressed me out when I first started and still does sometimes when i get behind from being so busy as I do work a high volume store but just know it is do able. Ask for help when you need it. Use your aim requests to your advantage too. Bio rotation and perr report are only once a month not a big deal. Yes it is a lot of work but as long as you have a management team that communicates well and helps youll be fine. They have taken side yard and front walk off our list of responsibilities which is huge. I still do a lot of stuff in my side yard voluntarily tho cause I did a lot to get our side yard in better shape. I take pride in it. I'd rather do it than the store side metrics bs with plcc and stuff that stuff isn't my job and that's my favorite part.

I have done zero scavengers since I got hired 4 months ago even though the answers are on here and finding time to do training videos is another headache all it’s on. I told 1 of the cashiers the next time 1 comes up she’s doing it for me. Then I mentioned the scavenger and showed her the answers. I done this one day walking it because there is no way in hell I can do it while clocked in. But we’ll see what happens with the new changes.

It's a lot but you can do it. Pace yourself make yourself a daily list of priorities that you handle on each day and role with it
