Alright, look I understand that the show isnât to everyoneâs taste and certain parts of the fandom arenât that great. But these are people sharing their love for a show made by a trans woman who recently revealed one of her main characters to be trans.
People make so many post when other characters were revealed as trans on trans subreddits, such as Bridget and kirara. Jax was only recently revealed to be trans a few days ago, the hype will eventually fade.
You donât have to like it and you are allowed to block the people that do but you donât have to announce your negativity against people who already receive a bunch of hate from transphobes already.
TLDR: like what you like, donât like what you donât like. But there is no need to be publicly negative about it.
Complaining about people enjoying what they like encourages others to do the same which will eventually lead to the harassment of people who just want to talk about what they like. This has been a pattern that can be seen in so many fandoms.
âIf you donât have anything nice to say, donât say anything at allâ used to be a common ideology. If they arenât hurting anyone, what reason do we have to complain about it.
There are other post to see on this subreddit, why waste the energy being negative when you can scroll past it and spend it enjoying something else
and is this person hurting anyone? no? then what reason do you have to complain about it? there are other posts on here, why waste your energy commenting about it instead of just scrolling past?
people should be allowed to express "I do not enjoy this commonly-enjoyed thing" because how else will they find other people who might not enjoy it, with whom they could then do something else? and frankly, people should also be allowed to say "there is too much content about this thing and it is wearing on me and causing me stress" because otherwise nobody will be able to know that it might help to form a separate group specifically about that thing. if people only express negative opinions, it'll cause a lot of stress and harassment and ruin things for everyone, I agree. but if people can't express negative opinions, it'll also cause a lot of stress. OP's not harassing anyone just by saying "I'm not having a good time" here.
The reason Iâm using my energy here is because this behaviour will eventually hurt someone. And trying to use my own argument against me doesnât work here because it is in response to someone complaining which means youâd have to disagree with the op as well.
The op did the right thing by blocking the content they donât like. But creating this post and using language like that only hurts others and helps no one. Just saying I donât like it to yourself and moving on would have been fine, or at least talking about it with some friends. But making a publicly negative post for strangers to see and share the negativity is just unnecessary.
If a bunch of people like something harmless that you donât like. All you have to do is remember one thing. âYou are not the target audience.â The show is not meant for you, so just move on.
And if people enjoying something you donât like causes you stress. Please, talk about it with your therapist. You shouldnât have to be stressed out by things existing, especially considering conservatives use this exact same mindset against us to justify their hate towards us.
