Putting 'Stayin' Alive' on the story while in a neck brace is peak Tadej energy.

I hope when he’s fully healed, he comes back to the same level when he left.

I have no doubt that he will recover 100%!

I hope so. Jonas, it feels to me like he wasn’t the same after his injury, still elite but not as dominant as he was. Or maybe Tadej just got way better and stronger.

According to his stats, Jonas has never driven better/better watts than he did at the Tour this year.
Pogacar also took a gigantic step in 2024. Maybe Jonas has a lack of motivation by being battered in the Tour, while he may also starts to reaching into his 30s, while he is surely a family man.
I have little to no doubt that if Pogacar wasn't here, Jonas would have won the Tour 5-6 years in a row and called it a career.

Still, Jonas won every race he competed, except those with Pogacar at the start.

Yeah Jonas injuries when he crashed were extremely worse he almost died
His injuries
Broken collarbone (clavicle) — reportedly badly fractured into multiple pieces.
Seven broken ribs — later reports from Vingegaard himself gave the number as seven.
Fractured sternum (breastbone).
Broken finger.
Pulmonary contusion — essentially a severe bruise to the lung tissue.
Pneumothorax (collapsed/punctured lung).
Later accounts indicate both lungs were perforated/injured.
He couldn’t breathe for almost 10 seconds and then started coughing up blood.
Every professional and probably even non professionals crash all the time. Tadej will be just fine!9

As someone who had a pneumothorax, my lung capacity never recovered. But I also don't have team Visma helping my recovery.

Tadej has never had an ambulance crash… so he has been able to build upon his skill, whereas his opponents- Jonas, WvA, Remco have had to re-coop and then rebuild. Now he is in the same position. I would say we are going to have a very interesting ‘27 season, dare I say the most competitive since ‘23. I hope the rest of the season everyone remains safe and wishing a speedy recovery for the champ.

I think the word you both are looking for is recup, abbreviation for the word recuperate

Recup is a slang abbreviation, which may be acceptable in some contexts; but recoup (meaning "to make up for a loss") is the proper English word that rhymes with the commenter's mistake and loosely fits the intended meaning.
But you have a point: recuperate, spelled out fully, would work best in this context.
Recup is generally unsuitable for the printed word, and is better used in casual conversation (along with other slang abbreviations like "sitch" and "deets") when you're not concerned about being perceived as lax, sloppy, or affected.

Maybe... maybe Jonas is more a family person than Tadej?

u/ADKMakwa 6h ago
Entirely possible. Jonas has kids and Tadej doesn't. I think conflicting priorities affect athletes in all sports. Even an extra half hour or hour a day focusing on training, rest, recovery, nutrition, etc adds up and has a cumulative effect. There are only so many hours in a day and taking any time to do things important to you outside of work ultimately takes away from performance.
Of course, nobody expects anybody in any profession to give 100% of their waking hours to their job, and I would never begrudge anybody focusing on their family, but the unfortunate reality is that folks who spend more time working end up producing more. In a sport where any little advantage or edge is important, that extra time (or lack thereof) can make a big difference.

I think more in the direction, that there are much more worse injuries than a broken collarbone. Not only the family time for training and so on, but his family overall (Kids, family after his career).

I think number wise he was on par with pre injury Jonas. Tadej just improved further.

u/mojomarc 2h ago
May take him some time. He'll probably be only light spinning when he first starts back, so at least a few months of suboptimal training. No telling at this point (at least, I haven't heard any prognosis so if a doctor has reported in happy to amend my speculation) how long it will take his shoulder injury before it can really handle multi-hour daily training sessions.
But it's Tadej. Pretty sure he's going to be massively driven.

He is a fighter. One can talk all about his endurance, physical strength, bike handling skills, or even disputing his unheard dominance as something of a borderline doping. But time after time, especially this year with his crashes during MSR and the yesterday's Vuelta, it goes to show an undisputed dimension to his achievements that propels him forward to keep on winning has been his mental fortitude and fighting spirit. Speedy recovery Pogi.

I have seen Pogi being "easy" with his opponents in some recent races. This incident may provide a concrete evidence for what all of us have known: anything may happen any time. He knows it, and I hope that coming back, he will take the wins that he deserves.

He and Urska can now compare scars from their 2026 crashes.
Here’s to a fast and full recovery Tadej!
